This is really great Lamar, I've skimmed through some of the videos and I'll try to give it a full listen and come back with my thoughts and criticisms. I see this is pretty highly upvoted on reddit too so congrats on that. Hope this all works out for you since this is (as always) high quality content from what I've heard thus far.

How the hell did you land a lengthy interview with Tracy Murray?

I am about 2/3rd of the way thru the interview Lamar. This is really good stuff. I am amazed at how open Murray is during the interview. You were really prepared, so well done.

I just approached him on twitter. The fact that I had made a video of his 50pt game probably helped my cause.

oh yeah, props to Murray. You can tell that he has experience calling colleges games and talking for a living. I can imagine that others wouldn't be so open when talking with a mumbling guy who isn't a native English speaker. He was cool throughout the process and was fun to work with.

I have some questions for you Lamar...

How did you decide on Murray? Out of all the random NBA guys, why him? How many others did you contact? Which guys turned you down or didnt respond (if any)? Who is next on your list of targets. [Please say Fat Lever]. It would be pretty cool to find an ex-Bobcat from those early years who was willing to open up about the early expansion team. I bet Derrick Anderson would be a fun interview.

Since I'm a no name in this field, I tried approaching the guys of whom I have uploaded footage on my channel. You know, here's the time you dropped 40 in the playoffs in that significant series, would you like to talk about that PO run and your whole career... They usually are happy to see that someone has made highlights of them and that can help me mightily. Moreover, then I can create a cool video for youtube of them narrating a game of theirs. Obviously, I have journalistic ambitions and thus I'm doing this, but creating a legacy for these players is also what I love to do. The more footage of Tracy Murray on YouTube, the better. One should be able to look him up twenty years later on the internet and find out what kind of a player he was.

Obviously, I'm not going after Larry Bird or Bill Walton but at this point moreso trying to get the borderline all-stars or random decent players.

Why Murray? I had highlights of that classic 50-point game of his and he got back to me very quickly. Was super pleasant and easy to work with him.

I've probably contacted a dozen or so at this point. Most of them didn't reply (no one has come out and flatly declined) but it's hard to say whether it was because they didn't want to or is it because their emails are so full with other stuff. Next targets? I've thought about Lever but it seems to me that there isn't a convenient way to contact him. LinkedIn hasn't yielded great results up to this point, but I kind always hit him up on there.

I always have a couple of emails, messages or whatever in the works and so on but at this point I can say that the two next definite guests will be a:

shot-blocking center from the 90s;
NBA champion and notable journeyman

I don't want to say too much before the podcasts are executed and up so I don't look like a fool later on..

Obviously, I've thought about a Charlotte angle. I can say that I am in a conversation with one of the original Hornets, not sure whether I'll be able to get his time (and if I do I'll be sure to ask for some insight from some of the older heads, maybe you have something you definitely want me to ask him). Hadn't thought about the Bobcats expansion team, I might want to think about that.

judging by the 30 for 30 Short they did on him, he doesn't really want to talk about basketball that much. other things in his life are more important for him.

sorry, Sachmo.

a relative unknown from the 72-10 bulls would be cool but they're probably sick of talking about it.

i think Longley keeps pretty tight lipped out. Buechler maybe.

I enjoyed your podcast, Tracy Murray seems like a really nice guy and a great interview. Ask him a question and he had a anecdote ready to go

your fellow Aussie Adam Ryan has had Longley twice on his podcast. seemed like a funny and chill dude, he was a good guest for such a platform.

The #Panthers and Luke Kuechly have agreed to terms on a 5-year, $62M contract extension, per a source.
