I can't get past the lumping in of Tatum with Luka and Zion.

I have it the other way, I'm currently Trae > Melo > Ja

Trae is a diabolical defender. Skinny 19 year old Melo backed him down to the basket from midrange in half a second

No team will ever contend with Trae as their best player. He's the KAT of guards. He'll post epic stats but his team will win 35-40 games each year in an 82 game season. Unless he makes extreme strides on defense.

I mean he’s averaging 27/9/4

10th in PPG and 3rd in APG. Offensively you can’t really ask for too much more lol

Melo will be a top 5 player eventually...Congrats Cha fans...If i were the knick GM I would have acquired the #1 pick and drafted him...

I had the #2 pick in the Knick fantasy league and traded up to draft him  didnt want to take the
chance even though I knew the other GM wasnt high on him...

throwing lobs to zeller and biz is very, very different than collins and capela

how the hawks aren't .500 with their talent is mindboggling to me

That’s a completely different point from your original post.

You said it’s ridiculous how little he does with his tools

Yet his offensive production is easily top 10 in the entire league.

There really isn’t much more he can do offensively bro

trae's stats and trae's actual impact aint the same thing

it doesn't make sense how bad atlanta is and the ball is in his hands more than anyone else. it is what it is man

He said "with the tools around him"
Implying his teammates. I agree that Atlanta would have a winning record if Trae was a true +++ PG like a Chris Paul.

for me, the only real question remaining for Melo is, what does the best version of LaMelo Ball look like? is he a top-10 player in the league? top 5? best player in the league? all of those are on the table. once he's seen every defensive approach for his game enough times, and he's counted on with heavy, heavy usage...

I mean not really lol he’s one of the most impactful guys on the offensive side of the floor in the entire league.

Point blank period

Whether or not he’s a bad leader and a terrible defender is a completely different question

leading is part of the job at pg man

atlanta is worse than the sum of its parts - and he's the guy running things. you can put up great numbers and be a head scratcher all the same. its not some one or the other type of take. and if lamelo had better tools around him he'd be playing better than he is now. don't know how that's a stretch either.

i'm always kinda weirded out by people thinking trae's problem are *just* on the defensive end.

The first dozen pages or so of this thread are hilarious.

LaMelo looks like he can lead an NBA team to wins based on not just his stats but the way he plays the game and his feel for the game. Trae knows how to get the stats but there should be serious question around his ability to lead his team to wins. Those are two different things believe it or not, to Dy’s point.

And his hustle.

He really works hard for rebounds and doesn't just cherry pick them. He dives all over the floor and plays with high effort levels at all times.

honestly think you could ring LaMelo up a full 2 assists and half a turnover fewer per game if we had decent center other than Biz
