Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
Calipari just said that he wanted his kids to hurt like MKG did when Kentucky lost to Indiana his freshman year where he cried postgame. He wanted his kids to care that much.
I just saw that, and it was random, but I like it.

. Ammo cries after a game and gets blasted. Mkg cries after a game and is a hero. Haha.Liver_Pooty wrote:Calipari just said that he wanted his kids to hurt like MKG did when Kentucky lost to Indiana his freshman year where he cried postgame. He wanted his kids to care that much.

These stats say a lot. Early in the season and a small sample size, but no question who our MVP is so far this season.

the on/off numbers are fairly staggering. our defense falls apart when MKG is on the bench. check out the opponent FG% with MKG on the floor vs off. check out the pts allowed per 100 possessions when he is on court vs off.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
Does anyone know a site that breaks down shooting percentages from different locations on the court?
- Hoopdata was great for this but I think they've shut down.
- Basketball-Reference usuallly does a good job with this but they haven't updated for the 13-14 season.
- 82Games doesn't seem to break down the stats beyond "jump, close, dunk, etc..." unless I'm missing something.

NBA.com has become quite resourceful lately. Try the following link:

i have been wondering the same thing. hoopdata and bball-ref were my go-to sources for this type of info. the nba.com stuff is decent, but it breaks things into spots, left and right side etc.., doesnt give overall numbers from each distance and adding up is time consuming.
i want numbers for each below:
at rim
3-9 feet
10-15 feet
16-23 feet
24+
that is what i want to see.
if anyone finds that data on another website, please link.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
nba.com also doesnt differentiate between shots at rim and shots out to 8 feet. big difference.
anyway, MKG is 8-for-17 from 16-24 feet = 47%
small sample size, so none of us should expect that percentage to hold up. anything over 35% would be a big improvement.
MKG was 30% last year from 16-24 feet and 14% from 10-16 feet (thats his no-man's land).

Woah, I haven't checked out NBA.com in while, that's actually pretty neat. Thanks man!

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
vorped.com is a pretty good site, has shot charts that get very specific, like hook shots in the 2nd qtr down 10points on the road, MKG is 3/3 on Midrange jumpers in the 4th qtr #clutch, MKG hasn't dunked in the 4th either

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
Beyond the percentages, MKG is 13-35 on perimeter shots, and Jeff Taylor is 18-67 on perimeter shots. I don't know if it's a good idea, but maybe somebody need to tell MKG to start chucking shots instead of picking & choosing his shots so much, because he can't do any worse than Taylor at it

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
Chuck away MKG. Put them shots up. I don't even care if you miss. You can't do any worst than Taylor. At least with you chucking we'll be able to keep defense and rebounding on the floor.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
fair to say that maybe MKG has fewer sample size than others and also takes wide open shots because defenses give him that shot, compared to say hendo and kemba that have to work like crazy to get a mid-range look.
we saw last night what happened when MKG took a contested mid-range jumper, green blocked it because MKGs release is slow and low.
still, its nice to see progress. MKG was around 30% last year on those same shots, also infrequent and uncontested. if he keeps knocking them down at 40% rate, pretty soon the defenders will come out and he'll have more room to drive.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
MKG has made some progress, but is still light years from where he should be with that shot. Honestly, his mechanics is probably the weirdest thing I've seen in basketball... He better continue to pick his shots wisely, Cats can't afford another poor shooter. I guess he is not going to make some greater progress until next season. There's a lot to do make that shot right... not that I think he's a genuinely poor shooter, he can sink some shots, it's just that lol wtf mechanics that limit his opportunities.
