No no no Afflalo. He's sucked over in Denver and sucked the 2nd half of last year in Orlando. I'd rather keep the chemistry that Hendo give us than take on the playoff choke artist himself Afflalo.

Zach Lowe named Hendo as a bench player for his Marc Gasol All-Stars, players he has enjoyed watching the most this season.

G: Gerald Henderson

Hendo isn’t for everyone, but it’s mesmerizing to watch a wing who belongs in the 1980s try to fit into the modern game. Henderson is like the NBA’s Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer. Your 3-point arc and intricate spacing frighten and confuse me!

Henderson and Kidd-Gilchrist make for spacing death, but Henderson wrings everything out of a skill set that may never include a reliable 3-point shot — a limitation that cost him his rotation spot for a bit earlier in the season. He can pop off screens and run sideline pick-and-rolls, and though they’ll mostly yield pull-up 2s if Henderson keeps the ball, he’s at least a decent midrange shooter. If you squint hard enough at Henderson’s post game, all shoulder fakes and fadeaways, you can see Kobe Bryant.

When he doesn’t shoot, Henderson’s a solid and selfless passer who keeps the offense flowing. He’s a strong defender at both wing positions, and he always does his job within Steve Clifford’s scheme. Kidd-Gilchrist might have learned his “Oh, you’re not paying attention to me?” cuts from Henderson:

Henderson will unleash a vicious tomahawk dunk when you least expect it — sometimes in traffic. He is one of the NBA’s random great in-game dunkers.

I am very curious to see if Hendo opts in. I think everyone here fully expects us to draft or somehow at least try to acquire a more legit scoring wing that is a perimeter threat. We also have PJ and Lance who, with better development and play, could realistically steal minutes from Hendo, and MKG is only going to increase his share of PT barring injury.

You also have Cliff still saying that we need better shooters, and Hendo should be feeling heat from that comment more than MKG. Hell, for all the grief we like to give MKG about his limited offense he's averaging only two less points per game with about the same TS% as Hendo with a higher ORTG.

There is no reason that Hendo needs to wait for the cap to go up to dramatically increase his contract size, and I think his perceived value will only go down if next year his PT is cut for our other wing options, especially if they outperform him.

I don't think we are going to pay him much to be a backup wing, but he is definitely not the future as a starter. I really like Hendo and think he brings consistent effort and professionalism, and honestly I'd love to bring him off the bench on a reasonable deal, but I think he walks this offseason.

I fully expect Hendo to opt out. He's worth more than $6M the way he's played for much of the season, especially with the cap jumping by like 30% pretty soon.

I think we should hand the keys of the offense back over to Hendo and get a PG that can get him back to doing his curl sets.

That's if Hendo don't opt out and leave us to emerge on another team.

is it code for "I'll adapt more 80s Adrian Dantley post moves that my dad showed on some of his old Celtics-Pistons VHS tapes" rather than becoming more of a contemporary player?

Cliff on if Henderson opts in "I hope so, we all want him here, he's a valuable piece to our team. We always play well when he's out there"

Hendo ain't dumb. He'd be hard pressed to find another team willing to pay him 6 mil if he opt out. He might find one, but that'll be after searching the highest of mountains to seek the prayer he would need to get a team to pay him that much as a SG without a consistent 3pt shot.

Only way I see Hendo opting out is of he values a chance at playing on a contender more than a starting role and/or money. It certainly wouldn't shock me to see Hendo try to latch on with a contender, even if it meant less money and possibly a lesser role.

Gerald opts out and signs to whichever team is closest to some nice golf courses.

Does Iggy's trophy, result and performance inspire Hendo + agent to test the market? There is value in players who play 2-way consistently and lack range but give max effort and lead. Give Hendo more open space and maybe he can drain wide open 3's in big moments.
