The Professor praises Jeremy's work ethic (they worked together this off-season):

Lin talks about the team's experience in China and how he's impressed with the off-court chemistry and character of the players. Sounds like Lin and Kemba really get along and have mutual respect for one another.

I don't doubt for one second that the Hornets have one of the 5 tightest locker rooms in the league. Its been that way most of the past 4 years. Kemba, Biz, Hendo, MKG, Cody, Al, Tolliver, Marvin, Lin, CDR - the list of great locker room guys with high character goes on and on. Cho placed a big emphasis on character when he took over. You can argue that Cho has whiffed on a lot of talent, but he's nailed the off-court side of things (exception being Lance).

Two years ago, when we went to the playoffs, Tolliver, Jefferson and CDR, who were all new to the team, all said that team was the best locker room they had ever been part of in their time in the league.

Except for that ridiculous like 30 point lead we gave up last year...

Last season was awful.

That's really interesting

I remember Daryl Morey saying around the start of the Rockets rebuild a few years ago that character was nice but more of a luxury that they couldn't afford to prioritize right now

I'm not saying this to bash Morey - I like Morey but on this I always thought he was out to lunch

I think Lin was the best Lakers player in those two games (21 pts/7 assists, 23 points/8 assists). The coach Scott actually toke him out of the second game in the key moment so Lakers could keep tanking.

Watching him play catch and return with Hawes and Zeller - made me suddenly flash to Omer stone hands Asik, Dwight reluctant screen setter Howard, and the black holes and slow moving targets that were Jordan Hill and Carlos Boozer - last year. Good grief.

you got to understand teams are not build around Jeremy. Houston actually had a very good system for Lin, Lin PnR with Asik were pretty good although Asik does not have good hands, not a very good finisher, but the guy is a terrific screen setter... Lin did a lot pnr with greg smith, dmo, even occasionally with Harden... the situation was the ball was not in Jeremy's hand as often as Linsanity days when there were not many offensive options with Melo and Amare out... plus Houston have a better player in James Harden who also needs the ball in his hands to maximize his effectiveness... and during Lin's second year in Houston, Parson also became a pretty effective PnR ball handler and McHale called a lot more plays for Parson (McHale really really likes Parsons)...this further took the ball away from Lin's hand, that's why Lin's playing time, assist number and TO number went down accordingly, but the team was getting better overall... and Lin's efficiency did not go down, his off ball game became better....
In lakers, Byron run Princeton offense, he does not like PnR "two men game" too early in his offense, also his priority was to set up kobe in the elbow... Byron knows Lin's game very well, he said "Jeremy is a guy we can run PnR all day", but I guess that's not what Byron wanted a PG in his system...Plus he was stealth tanking.... He definitely misused Jeremy, he himself probably knew that too...
I would say Jeremy has not been in his perfect situation. But if you are not the team's superstar, coaches rarely design everything for you. Jeremy has evolved from linsanity days. He is not that phenomenon any more, he is a solid NBA player. More and more the league regards him as an explosive third guard, 6th man type of player. I believe it is how coach Clifford envision him to be too.

I agree with almost all of your points.

I don't know if Lin will ever be a starter again or a star. It's just been nice to see Lin sort of unleashed again even for a game or two -

I don't know even mind that he had to go through some years of difficulty -- that's life. And now he has a better off ball game :-)

He will surely be a starter again, if he can get his TO down, play consistently and can fight thru screens well.

I have a feeling that at the very least Lin will start some games this year at SG. We're only Kemba, Lamb or Batum injury away from Lin being forced into the starting lineup.

That being said, I'd prefer that he keeps coming off the bench. He can be our Ginobili, leader of the 2nd unit, finishing games in the 4th. If the Hornets make the playoffs and Lin plays well off the bench, he'll be in the conversation for 6th man of the year. Not that he would actually win an award. Why? Because he is a Hornet and all Hornets get ignored by the media when it comes time for awards and selections.

that may be true but if the Hornets and Lin do well, the nba might casually point to the media how many viewers are tuned in from asia.

It will be a fascinating experiment. Is the power of Linsanity stronger than the black hole of media attention about the Hornets? I mean, If Michael **** Jordan isn't enough to create more media buzz about the team, then I am skeptical anything other than a legit superstar can do it.

I predict Lin will be our third leading scorer this season. Second isn't even out of the question if we keep using AL as we have in the presesason.

Well Lin will create a lot of traffic but probably at the same time won't change the main stream media black hole. his following are obviously not the same group (only a small protion of his fans are legit NBA followers who actually knows the game reasonably.)

(unless of course the Hornets somehow have a Hawks like awesome season and/or he literally goes Linsanity 2.0 again.)
