Only way we offer that is on a match.

Re: Pink Lemonade: The Miles Bridges Thread
Hornets are playing this so far exactly as they should; tell bridges' camp to go get an offersheet from another team and while the Hornets simultaneously publicly insist that they intend to match any offer to dissuade potential suitors from making such an offer.yosemiteben wrote:
If no string offersheets can be scrounged up, then bridges' camp loses considerable leverage as he's then left with accepting whatever compromise offer we place out, or playing out next season on the qualifier.
Retaining him at a reasonable price should be the first priority. If that can't be done and a teams are indeed willing to max him, then pivot and look at s&t options for a high ceiling rookie scale contract player like saddiq bey

You can't really operate this way unfortunately because it's not what 1 guy signs for, it is what the consensus of players his level have signed for. Good on the Suns for getting a good value on Mikal, but that doesn't mean we have to sign Miles at that or else.
Bridges is looking at guys like MPJ, Collins, Randle, JJJ and probably using those as comps. Klutch is convincing him its Max or else, but I really doubt a small market team like Pacers or Detroit are really going to offer him 30+ million. Could be wrong, but it is Klutch job to convince the rest of the league those offers are out there and to not "hurt feelings" just give him the max willy nilly.
All indications by Hornets actions have hinted at us resigning Miles. Other than that one report that said "we were hesistant to give him the max" which could of been leaked by just about anyone, any team, any agent. Not drafting a wing at 13, saying we love him and going to bring him back, trying to clear cap space and continually saying "we are going to focus on our own free agents over market" has hinted at the match all along.
I know I even get upset at this teams actions, but ultimately I do really trust Mitch for the most part.

NYK fan here... how about a Randle for Miles S&T if Miles expresses interest in being traded out of Charlotte?

Yeah, appreciate the offer and I don't mean to seem rude but that'd make me physically sick if we did that.

Re: Pink Lemonade: The Miles Bridges Thread
Detroit only has 20 million left and are out of the running, and it appears the Spurs want to tank next year. That leaves....Indiana and Orlando? Neither of which I think offers Miles Bridges an offer. Could possibly lower his price.
I was listening to a FA podcast today and they said that with Miles' defensive limitations and short wingspan they wouldn't pay a dime over 20 million a year for him....frankly anything less than 30 a year is a huge win

Detroit taking on that additional salary via trade last night was huge. They're no longer in play. He makes little sense for Orlando with Wagner, banchero and Isaac already at forward.amcoolio wrote:Detroit only has 20 million left and are out of the running, and it appears the Spurs want to tank next year. That leaves Indiana as his last viable potential suitor. If they pass, his camp loses all it's leverage and is left with either taking whatever we'll give him or playing out the year on the 7 mil QO

Re: Pink Lemonade: The Miles Bridges Thread
I'm worried that Klutch are that reckless they'd advise him to just take the QO if no one including us offers the max they want. That puts both parties in a weird position.

So he is willing to give up $25 mil or so in year one because we won't give him an extra $25-$30 mil for the life of the deal?
You don't give up a near max to "bet on yourself", even if that # is $25 mil per year. I can cite several examples with the most recent being Demarcus Cousins as an example of "take the money when you can get it".

If it happens so be it. Such actions would forecast long term issues. Better to find a suitable sign and trade so we get some value. I don’t like having a guy playing on a QO when his influence and uncertainty can cast shadows on a young team.
Glad the potential big $ suitors are nearly gone. They can talk about his defensive liabilities (legit concern) but do NOT discount the likely worries about his purple punch.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: Pink Lemonade: The Miles Bridges Thread
If he took the qualifying offer, which would be nuts, unless we just lowballed the **** out of him, then the signal really is "I'm getting out of Charlotte, ASAP, by any means necessary". The relationship really would have to deteriorate rapidly.
If I'm Charlotte, I'd call as soon as free agency opens with a fair, but moderate offer of something like 4/100. And then let him know that if he finds a better offer, we will happily match it. He, his agents, his buddies... none can say we didn't come fair at the start. That 40 mil more than we offered last summer. Nobody should feel disrespected with that offer or approach.

When is the last time a player coming off their rookie contract declined 9 figures for a QO? I can't remember.

More from that article
However, that rumored Grizzlies interest has been repeatedly shot down by league figures with knowledge of the situation.

A non-all star player at that. I love Miles, but he isn't on Zion's or Porzingis' (at the time) level. Take the 4/100 or 5/125, which I think is fair, then play well enough to get that supermax contract on his next contract
Knowing the Hornets though we'll splooge and offer him 5/150
