Re: Fake Trade Thread 2014-15
I'm pretty sure that Taj Gibson's value is past it's peak.
I'm not fond of the idea of trading Zeller and a first for him.
His game will age well but his deal isn't great value for a guy who is more proven as a reserve on a very good team.
He's no spring chicken either at about 28 years old.

I understand that you looked at his value from his contract's perspective, but as far as his game is concerned Taj is still improving. During the last season he made a leap forward in his post game. He's still getting better on offense.

Zeller is untradeable.

I would not trade a future first to get Gibson. I do not think he is enough of a game changer to make it worth a young player and a pick.

Next to Al, he's a perfect fit. I'd trade a 1st and Zeller in a heartbeat

I'd like to actually keep our first rounder for once.

He is an OK fit but I would not say perfect. Not worth a 1st and young player.

I don't know how much more you'd really want without going into all-star territory. He averaged 16.4/8.5 per 36 last season, and is one of the better true defensive PFs in the game- and one of the few PF rim protectors that can also score. Chicago's defense around the rim was actually better when Gibson was on the floor than Noah last season. He expires at the same time as Lance (2017), spaces the floor at a reasonable level (took 22% and 19% of his field goals from 10-16 and 16-23 feet and knocked down 40% at both ranges) and finishes strong around the basket (63.8%). I don't know what more you'd want next to Big Al outside of Serge Ibaka or an all-star PF.

I believe he's a good fit and he may be still improving slightly, but I'm not sure we should give up assets such as a future first for a 28 year old reserve on an inflated contract.
I'd offer them Marv and Hairston for him in December.
No way they take it, but it's the only type of deal I think we should consider offering.
There are a plethora of guys who could give us something next to Al that could most likely be traded for, with excess assets.
Trevor Booker, Perry Jones, Brandan Wright, Ersan Ilyasova etc.
I don't think we should get tunnel vision for a stretch four necessarily either, guys like Booker and Wright would fit quite well next to Jefferson imo.
Marv and Zeller give us enough (temporary) security to not have to overpay for Gibson imo.

That's exactly the one I had in mind (and was going to post) max offer. But I have a feeling we'll want Marv more than Taj Gibson by the deadline. If McRoberts can thrive in this system, Marv can as well. They're similar players but Marv is the better outside shooter, McRoberts the better passer. The margins are slim.
It has been written...

Sign me up for Zeller plus a first for Taj. Dude's always played really well when given starter minutes, plus we would easily have the number one defense with him on our team.

That might be a minor stretch, but I'd probably do it if they threw in Dunleavy. I like Zeller's and Hairston's potentials but they're replaceable. You can find guys with their skill sets every year. Gibson is the fit for us right now, and I personally think this rotation could be as good as any in the East if the Bulls and Cavs run into problems.

Gibson/Marvin/Vonleh
MKG/Hendo/Taylor
Lance/Dunleavy/Hendo
