I think Nic would fit in pretty well with Sacramento. They signed all these vets, but they'd be better off letting Fox and Hield start and get more playing time and they don't really have a SF (it looks like they're starting Garrett Temple). I think he'd be better for that team than Hill. Plus Batum is like 2-3 years younger.

For us, Hill's contract is a year shorter and decreases each year while Batum's salary keeps going up. Hill could be our backup PG and see a lot of playing time with the starters. He had a really good year last year, I think he'd look a lot better playing for a team with a little more talent.

I thought about that trade too. Beyond a direct trade, a three team trade with Nic going to the Clippers, DeAndre going to the Kings, and Hill coming here could work too.

My worry with Hill is that he is what, 30 now? His numbers this year are down across the board, and I'm not sure that it's just being on a worse team. Even with a contract that goes down that's a lot of money for a guy who may not have much NBA basketball left in his body.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I would do Hill for Batum for sure, love that. He should have never signed in SAC.

Like when i suggested this idea in the "how to fix this team" thread, it would mostly benefit to the Hornets (fit and contract wise) so the Hornets would probably have to add some value to make it work. But yes, i still think that Hill would be close to the best fit behind Kemba (and they could also play together when needed).

I love Hill for this team, but I feel like trading Batum for him is too big of a risk for us to ultimately take a chance on

If we're trading Batum, I'd rather do it for an expiring or soon to be expiring contract. Locking up a backup PG that would get like 20 minutes a game for ~20 mil a season for the next 3 years, imo, is worse than what we have with Batum. Surely, we can find a team that would take Batum for expiring contracts this year or next.

Edit: just saw that his 2019-20 salary is just partially guaranteed. If we could cut him loose after next year, I'd be on board.

Dwight trade?

Post#1586 » by CoachD » Tue Dec 5, 2017 8:30 pm

Raptor fan here

Operating on the premise of a Dwight for Valanciunas trade, and wondering what else the Hornets would realistically want in order to make that trade happen...

I would love to trade Dwight. However he is a large expiring next year and JV still has a year after that. So no thanks.

No thanks I like my big goofy board gobbling rim protector. I don't love his offense but Valanciunas would just bog down our offense like Al did.

If we REALLY want to trade Nic this is probably as good as we'd get. His large contract is just too heavy versus his production.

But we won't deal Batum...not under this regime and coach. Clifford has planted his flag and we're treadmilling or worse as a result.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I don't know, the Raptors have a few really expensive guys and then a slew of cheap contracts so matching dollars is tough. They could swap Valanciunas & DeRozen for Dwight & Batum but I don't know if either team would want that.

This is an easy yes from me...this squad is going nowhere, we are giftwrapped expirings for a guy who hasn’t done anything for 2 years and is signed for another 2 years after this, and y’all say no?!? Haha that is crazy to me...let’s blow this up...trade Batum and MKG next!

I'd say Marv is playing the best out of anybody besides Kemba. He fills his role well and I'm pretty sure we can trade him and get some type of value besides expirings.

I know you can’t solely use a stat line to determine the value of a player. However if your saying Marvin is our 2nd best player right now, we gotta problem. He’s a averaging 9 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. If we honestly could get more than expirings for him right now, we need to pull the trigger on that trade ASAP
