Re: Charlotte Hornets?
I just dropped into the Bobcats forum to see what people thought about this. I didn't realize you'd had conversations about it for so long. As an NBA (Pistons) fan, I'd love to see the Charlotte Hornets back. You may no longer have Grandmama and Kendall Gill, but the Hornets were a nationwide phenomena. Starter would be excited to start cranking out the jackets again too. In such a short time, the Charlotte Hornets name created a legacy for itself. I know some of you are against it, but I think most NBA fans in general would love to see this happen.

Thanks for your insight.
I think for the NBA it will be a win but it will be a bitter pill to swallow for a lot of Bobcats fans, that said the Hornets brand IS Charlotte.

Re: Charlotte Hornets?
I can see it now, Grand Mama Thomas Robinson
Biyombo = Alonzo
Kemba = Rich mans 5'11 Muggsy
if we get the hornets name back our international fanbase will be huge, which will mean more $$$ for Jordan

The main change I could see, is that we would become the lulnets next year.

Re: Charlotte Hornets?
Bottom line is the greatest history of "hornets" that anyone remembers is with Charlotte, not the stint in NO. The name "CHARLOTTE" never looked so good as it did on those jerseys. It had a classic sports look and appeal, timeless yet new. Laugh if you want, but the Hornets name and colors restored would make a difference in $ and fan appeal nationwide, not just here. Heck, you could even have some nostalgia nights while were still rebuilding, by bringing back Alonzo or LJ for a halftime appearance.
Do it MJ.
Do it MJ.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

At the end of the day, real Bobcats' fans won't give a damn what we're called. Only what's best for the team.

Re: Charlotte Hornets?
Heres concepts from the hornetsreport if they brand moved back to charlotte.. however I hope they switch back to the original logo, and switch back to the original court designed but updated a little to be more mordern

Re: Charlotte Hornets?
You know, it would be a smart move if they keep this name change option in their back pocket. If we don't get Davis, going back to the Hornets would drastically help us get over it.
Edit after seeing above post: Oh man that court brought back some serious nostalgia. My favorite court was when the area between the paint and 3pt line was painted that transitioned from teal to purple midway. Most unique and bomb ass court ever.

It could be cool to do a gradient from the baseline upwards to the 3 point line of purple to teal. And have the area behind the basket be purple as well. Gradients are sick.
EDIT: For the record while I'd be against bringing the Hornets back (Maybe we could be the Carolina Hornets, with Charlotte still being the Queen City of the Hive?), I would definitely still be a Bobcats/Hornets fan.
EDIT: This comment on that article is **** hilarious, check it out:
"Your an idiot a name change to name historical to our area is exactly what the owner in New Orleans is doing for his fans I hope MJ is smart enough to see that it will bring 100 times more fans and more sales (tickets and merchandise even CAM NEWTON agrees check his Charlotte Hornets hat). It pisses me off that anyone thinks this is a bandwagon move it isn't you moron didn't you grow up in the Carolinas. I'd support a Charlotte Hornets team that is 1-83 before I support a Bobcats team 50-34 go figure if I am the only one or if there are millions in the Carolinas who agree."
100 times more fans eh? We'll have millions!!! and the "your" an idiot was a nice touch lol. Also a team that went 1-83 must have played a looooooooooooooot of games. Or 50-34.
And there are millions of people in the Carolinas who agree! Millions! You didn't even think there were (several multiple) millions of people there! Let alone millions who cared about NBA basketball, and cared specifically about the Hornets.

If I were a grandparent, I'd get that for my grandkids and expect to see them wearing it.

The Hornets were trendsetters. I will be thoroughly disappointed if the name becomes available and we pass.
Humble yourself.

Re: Charlotte Hornets?
I was against changing the name before, but seeing how much interest is behind this, I am now down for it. If this will get more people excited about Charlotte basketball, then let's do this.
I'm not from the area and wasn't a Hornets fan back in the day, so it really carries no value for me. The brand/colors were sort of neat in the 90's, but have been outdated for the last decade. I know, that's like blasphemy coming from someone who now lives in Charlotte and is a fan of basketball but if it means that much to everyone then I am totally on board. It's not like the Bobcats have built this strong brand or anything.

I was against it at first too, but this team needs to be reinvigorated. Captain Unibrow and a return to the Hornets might just be the " Buzz " this team needs to reclaim the fans the original team threw away.
