Cavs are in as well luckily. No matter if they draft a bust or useful player, it won't be a guy you have high on your draftboard.

I see our talent level similar to DET. We are slightly better than a fringe playoff team. The Bulls will get our pick at 15 or 16. If we miss the playoffs our pick is no worse than 10 but I can't see it being much better than 10.

Picking 5 or 6 I think is a reach given the low level of talent on the bottom dwellers.

One thing is for sure...

DET could be in for a catastrophic season. They could miss the playoffs, lose a top 10 pick and go into the offseason having to sell low on Monroe.

The chance of hitting the jackpot is what matters. On paper it doesn't matter whether we pick 10th through our pick or DET one but as there is lottery we can actually move up with ours, but not with the Pistons' one. It is a long shot, nobody should hold their breath and you can pretty much rule it out based on probability, but it is still there. Then of course there is still the hard part - actually picking the right guy.

In modern boardgames it is legit strategy to put yourself in a position to win the game if randomness goes your way - and you know th possibility is there. Especially when you are otherwise in a somewhat losing position having hard time to catch up other ways (this sounds like a description of the Bobcats kind of). The Cats have no control over standings, but the parallel is there although there are other years after this one, we are not losing a race by missing out on top prospects this year and there is an actual selection to screw things up after getting lucky in the lottery, so luck itself is not enough.

Pistons lost again tonight. They're in shambles right now. Portland is about to lose their 4th in the past six..

Hope they keep it up!

The pistons have lost five straight and it can't even be blamed on tanking ;)

14-21 right now.

The pick just continues to get better and better.

1.Milwaukee/7-27
2.Orlando/10-24
3.Utah/12-25
4.Sacramento/11-22
5.Cleveland/12-23
6.Philadelphia/12-23
7.New York/12-22/Owned By Denver
8.Boston/13-22
9.Brooklyn/13-21/Owned by Atlanta
10.Los Angeles Lakers/14-21
11.Memphis/15-19
12.New Orleans/15-18/Owned By Philadelphia
13.Denver/17-17
14.Minnesota/17-17/Owned by Phoenix
15.Detroit/14-21/Owned by Charlotte
16.Charlotte/15-21/Owed ro Chicago
17.Chicago/15-18
18.Washington/15-17/Owned by Phoenix
19.Toronto/16-17
20.Atlanta/18-17/Owned by Boston
-------------------------------------------------
26.Portland/26-9/Owned by Charlotte

Of all these teams, I can see Sacramento, Cleveland, New York, Brooklyn, Memphis, New Orleans, Denver, Minnesota, Chicago, Washington, Toronto and Atlanta having strong second halves to the season.

Sacto has the talent to beat up on all the East and softer West teams, Cleveland has the talent to build a serious playoff bid, New York and Brooklyn ditto.

Memphis, New Orleans, Denver and Minnesota will absolutely feast on the East bar Indy and Miami (and Brooklyn and New York if they get it together)

Surprisingly Washington, Atlanta and Toronto since the trade are well drilled and Cohesive units, Chicago players will want to prove what they can do after losing Rose and everyone righting them off (again) The same could be said of the Atalnta players without Horford.

Boston, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit and us have the potential to implode imo.

I'm starting to think that Josh Smith is in on the tank. Brilliant subtle tanking by Dumars.

- The Detroit Pistons are an interesting team to watch as the deadline approaches. There is a lot of turmoil in Detroit, and the Pistons aren’t sure whether they should be buyers or sellers at the deadline, according to league sources. They had playoff expectations entering the season after adding Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings and Chauncey Billups among others, but they have struggled early on. Within the organization, it sounds like there are some people who want to be buyers in order to ensure a playoff berth, but there are also some who don't believe the pieces fit together very well and think Detroit should be sellers. Keep an eye on Detroit over the next month and a half.

Detroit needs to get something good for Monroe (a high IQ SG/SF that can shoot and play D a little) and replace Cheeks with someone that can actually coach. A good coach with Jennings|KCP|starting SF|Smith|Drummond should easily be a 4/5 seed in the East this year.

Pistons pick is looking great, with Cleveland going up (Deng) plus the NY teams also starting to figure it out, there is a great chance that both Charlotte and Detroit miss the PO, Chicago also, the pick is top8 protected and the 7 worst teams in the East will be top10 picks, so, with a little bit of luck you could have an 6-7th pick from your own, plus a 9th pick from Detroit, and the Blazers late first.

Notbad.

It would be so sweet if that DET pick lands at 9 in this draft. It takes the sting out of the tank or no tank argument. I would be happy either way. It's such a great asset right now. I don't think DET has a prayer with the Cavs, Nets and Knicks coming on strong. Brandon Jennings is chucking at .387%. And Josh Smith is a chucker. Then you have Drummond and Monroe glued to the paint. Lots of talent but probably the worst job in the NBA fitting that talent together.

We struck gold taking on Ben Gordon.

And now we're shopping Ben Gordon's expiring plus a pick for a useful player.

We could possibly turn Corey Maggette and Gerald Wallace into Eric Gordon and the 9th pick in the 2014 draft. :D

As much as Cho seems to have whiffed on every pick aside from Kemba Walker, you have to give him credit here where it's due.

People that don't recognise that MKG is our MVP and most impressive prospect...

I don't know what to say to 'you people'.

It's clear as day imo.

I agree with you actually, I'd put MKG, Biz, and Kemba as the only three things really going for this team.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves though with that Detroit pick. The East has been weak, but at times volatile and unpredictable. If Detroit fires Cheeks and installs a decent interim, they could start making a run. I hope we receive their pick, but it will probably be more in the 13-16 range
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

If we ended up with pick 13-16 in a stacked draft for the absolute privilege of watching the corpse of Ben Gordon sit on the bench...I'll jizz in my pants.

The Detroit pick is now at #9.

God bless you Joe Dumars.
