In what universe is $13.5M a huge chunk of $30M. What rational person would turn down $16.5M guaranteed? You can't frame him as a hobbled center and then act like opting in is the solution.

Don't know what that longer deal might be, but im guessing 11/33 with a team option on the third year.

Edit: And I wouldn't be surprised at all if were the team that gives him that kind of deal. Not surprised at all.

What has he done to earn an extension from us? He's half-assed it all year.

Nothing, but I would not put it against our front office at all.

It would be about as disappointing as it gets and a terrible indictment on our front office if we go that route. We would have used 3/5ths of our lottery picks on bigs only to relegate them to supporting roles/the bench.

Biyombo needs to get his head out of his ass and stop spending so much time in Africa for kids and spend time trying to be an NBA player. It might sound terrible I know, but a really good offseason in Charlotte like MKG and Zeller did would do wonders for the kid, and then we would't have to worry about Jefferson anymore.

Al likes it here, can't beat 13.5 and is good at turning it on when he has to and lazing the rest of the time to insulate himself from burnout and/or injury.

Which team is going to give a 31 year old hobbled center 11 million per year? He'd be lucky to get 10 per and 3. 13.5 is a huge chunk of that and he likes it here.

Like I said, Ill make a sig bet right now that he opts out. 13.5 right now or a longer contract with more money. Up to him. Its a piss poor free agent market next year with teams with some money to spend. They will spend it.

He's not really a standout player and he's old for a big, has played hobbled and will probably drag ass the rest of the year. His shot has been off as well. As his value on offense declines it damages his market because everyone knows to attack the paint. None of these teams who attack the paint on us (which seems like all of them) will give money to this guy provided they are watching the games. What deal can his agent point to out there among vets and say Al deserves more money? 13.3 gets you Vucevic, an emerging young center. Look how the Nets got stuck with Lopez who is only owed 2 years.

When Al and Hendo opt in I would put them in the ESPN trade machine for Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson up until Cho's dud-line when we realize nobody wants them and we are stuck with them yet again.

It would have been nice for him to stay in Charlotte over the summer, but I'll never begrudge a guy thousands of miles away from his home going back and staying for as long as he can. Clifford was a douche lord for holding it over his head at the beginning of the year. Besides his play has been really good this year and his advanced stats back it up.

I know Biyombo has been solid this year, but stay in Charlotte like MKG and Zeller and work on your game. Let Ibaka or some other guy from the Congo do work the kids over the summer for once and not spend a month over there. Selfishly, I want him here working out instead of doing whatever he does with the kids over there.

Edit: That might sound terrible, but oh well.

Lol. I know that is selfish of me, but I preached the same thing last offseason. You're a raw NBA player. Let Mutombo go over there and do the work, until then you work on your game and try to be Mutombo.

Insider article on top free agents and their estimated market value.

13. Al Jefferson | PF/C | Age: 30 | PO

2014-15 team: Charlotte Hornets
2014-15 salary: $13.5 million
Suggested AAV: $15.0 million/year ($60.0 million over four years)

He's not having quite the success he had last season (neither are the Hornets), but he's still one of the very best low-post scorers in the game, and a dominant force on the defensive glass. The cost of building a solid defense around Jefferson is a bunch of excellent defensive wings who can't space the floor; in a perfect world, he'd be flanked by some of the names above him on this list.

I can't wait to laugh at that team unless they got somebody like Ibaka at PF.

Hes not going to 15 per, thats rather insane. But he will get paid. I have no doubts.

Big men get paid.

Big men that can put up 20ppg are getting PAID WITH ALL CAPS. He's opting out barring a catastrophic collapse in his production.

Just keep padding those stats. Hopefully he opts out and we use the flexibility on an immediate Hendo upgrade and keeping Mo. It helps a ton if he opts out.

I have a feeling him staying and keeping Mo are somehow related. Not money wise but they are home boys.
