Golden State starts one of the premier paint/rim protectors in the NBA and gives minutes to another dedicated rim protector.

I think it might support the counter argument though when GSW had an elite rim protecting starting C, and he still only got 23 MPG in the regular season and got benched in the Finals.

And I love Bogut. Has been under rated for years. But other than being a good shot blocker he's also the best individual post defender. He sucks on offense but is at least a good ball mover. He's far from a one trick guy but still couldn't get on the floor when it mattered.

Does it support playing 0 minutes a game with a rim protector or only having one decent individual defender in our frontcourt? I can't believe people are trying to use Golden State as an example of rim protection not being necessary.

It's and evolving game and has been happening for over a decade but people haven't paid attention for some reason. For every dumb move the Knicks, Nets, Lakers, and Sacramento make there are 10 smarter franchises exploiting them. Golden State is an extreme because they are the best (or a combination of cause/effect). Spurs, Golden State, Houston, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Miami, Orlando spacing a decade ago, Portland 2 decades ago, etc..

It's been happening for a while GS is just latest example. Trace it back to early Bulls teams. Length everywhere, no rim protection but the defenses were amazing.

Horace Grant? Golden State had multiple guys that could protect rim besides Bogut.

Was going to respond to Braggins but at this point none of this discussion (trades, defensive schemes, etc.) has anything to do with Hansbrough. Nothing has changed or been revealed by this signing, which itself has not even been confirmed by the team.

I think there is more going on - it didn't take any time at all for the Hornets PR to jump on us reaching terms with Lin.

"rim protection" is just 1 input. The goal is to play good defense without sacrificing offense. Good perimeter defenses can prevent a lot of those chances before they start. And in the example of GS, or Indy (Hibbert) or Charlotte (Biz) teams realized it's an expensive market price with an offensive opportunity cost.

That Vonleh thing was announced before anyone had a clue. The Cody thing - I'm sure the team leaked that.

Every offseason move we've made this year has been covered by Hornets PR folks as soon as it was revealed that there had been an agreement as to terms unless it was just a transient piece that we were flipping (Barnes, Rindour, 2nd rounder this draft).

I think the lack of coverage by our PR folks is strong evidence that either (a) Bonnell jumped the gun and there hasn't been an agreement on terms yet or (b) this is a piece of a larger transaction that hasn't been revealed or finalized.

Steve Reed wrote an article for the AP citing "AP sources," I don't trust Bonnell but Reed is pretty reliable.

Agreed, but I'm skeptical that either heard directly from the team. Seems very odd that our PR folks are not following their typical MO if the team has actually come to terms.

Reminds me of when Bonnell got the details wrong on the Lamb trade when he tried to break that, might be a similar situation.

Hansbrough doesn't space floor, and isn't long for his position so I fail to see what he brings to the table that Biz didn't bring other then sell Jerseys\Tickets to the UNC fans.

I don't doubt they'll have a press conference. The not saying though makes me think they're not 100% sure yet what they'll present

someone would have to want to really hurt Bonnell if they're going to use him as some sort of two-bit rumormonger days after his father passed. I think we can bank on Bonnell's assurances of certainty with this one. plus he's not generally one to half-ass confirmation. for all his faults, he plays it pretty old school with making sure what he says is fact is fact. it's when he ventures into analysis or speculation that he does those things we all make fun of.

Don't disagree vorbis, yet here we are with an alleged deal reached but complete silence from our PR folks.

I don't doubt that there's something going on, but I do doubt that anyone not in our FO knows the full picture. If this was a simple FA agreement and the terms had been finalized, it would have been like Lin and our PR folks would be all over it.

I suspect this is a case of someone with intimate knowledge of pending transactions throwing a bone to Bonnell out of sympathy and in interest of furthering a mutually beneficial working relationship. maybe he hasn't put pen to paper (in which case there's little point in the Hornets releasing anything officially), but the signing is agreed to and will happen.

why not just announce it? Getting a "scoop" on a presser is really odd

We haven't waited for actual signings to announce FA agreements in the past, most notably just a couple weeks ago with Lin. They've been out in front with every announcement of final agreement.

I like what Cho is doing and obviously a coincidence but it seems like he's trolling the fan base a little. People will have REALLY strong feelings about seeing Lin, Kaminsky, and Hansbrough. Rational or not.

it's barely been 12 hours since Bonnell tweeted about it, so there's still time for them to be out in front.
