We lost Wood.

@WojVerticalNBA
Sources: Charlotte has declined the team option on forward Christian Wood for the 2017-'18 season, making Wood an unrestricted free agent.

Odd decision, unless he just wasn't showing any progress or had a bad attitude, or just wanted out of the deal and we obliged.

I guess JOB will be our project big.

I'm not sure we'd ever really know with Clifford. Face it, he is another in a line of Hornet coaches who aren't known as "developers of youth".
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

From the game time we saw,, can't say I'm shocked. Was a worthy experiment and hope he works out somewhere, but he looks like a D league all star that is going to struggle to translate. He killed it in the D league games I saw, but then when he was forced into game action he was clearly overwhelmed.

His numbers weren't bad but the minutes allocated were such garbage that you can't read anything into it.

The fact that he couldn't beat out hibbert and hawes means he is either a terrible center or clifford is an idiot.

He doesn't shoot well enough to be a 4.

Hibbert and Hawes is the wrong comparison. When they were gone and Plumlee was hurt we acquired JOB and played him over Wood, then gave JOB a multi-year deal. Writing was pretty much on the wall.

I doubt the front office wouldn't pick up 1 million now when scrubs are getting paid double/triple their worth. He more than likely asked for this. I don't blame him if he did. Would not be surprised if the Nets pick him up off waivers.

If it is just a declined team option, then there is no waived contract and nothing for other teams to pick up on the waiver wire. Other teams would have to sign him to a new contract or extend a summer league or training camp invite or something.

The Nets have a glut of guys and a roster spot crunch (need to make decisions soon on a bunch of young prospects on partial and non-guaranteed deals), so they would not want or have room for him anyway. As it is, they may do a draft and stash (the GM mentioned this as a possible path in the exit interview yesterday) because of lack of roster space for all three picks they have to make this summer.

The Nets didn't even have room to sign their own D-League players that they had promised 10-Day contracts to. They made good by waiving a player to free up a roster spot, signing and waiving other D-League players so they can get money and be credited with a year of service (affects future rookie or vet min payouts), and then re-signing the initially waived player back into his roster spot, all on the same day. They don't really have room for Wood, given the roster spot crunch with better rotation quality young guys they may need to cut soon.
