Re: 2018 Trade Deadline Thread
I just need for it to be Thursday night and for Kemba to still be on the team.

Kemba and nic for nets pick, it, Jr and Thompson.
What are people’s thoughts on this trade or something similar maybe just smaller?
For the cavs I’d absolutely do it and roll the dice once more.
I think this trade is dreadful and would be a gut punch to me as a Hornets fan. Talent aside the team would be trading one of the most likable players in the league in Kemba for one of the least likable in JR Smith who is petulant AND on a 3 yr contract. F**K that.
The whole reason to trade Batum is so that we can resign Kemba, not "throw him in" on the deal.
Why isn't the team instead focused on doing its job: finding a promising backup to groom as Kemba's eventual replacement?
Frustrates me to hear that to rid itself of Batum, who often appears apathetic and lazy, and whose contract is one of the most hamstringing mistakes in team history, the team would consider trading Kemba Walker, one of the most essential players in team history.
Well said, but just to clarify, for all intents and purposes JR is on a two year contract because he only has 3 million guaranteed the third year and any rational team will cut him before the start of the season.

I think you and a lot of people are going to be pissed off by then.

Who will the team market as its next new “star” next season? MKG? MCW?

One of them will be gone by Thursday night. I'm beyond convinced they start Dwight-Marvin-MKG-JR Smith-MCW next season. Whatever draft bust they acquire will surely beef up the Swarm, though. A 2018-19 Swarm/Hornets game would be entertaining.

I could only dream that one if not both are gone by Thursday night.
MCW is unlikely to be re-signed. As much as Clifford love MCW it seems that the front office of Cho & Co. usually rids Clifford of these players that is his own self-demise (i.e. Maxiell, Neal, Belinelli).

Re: 2018 Trade Deadline Thread
I don't like the Cavs trade either. The entire premise of trading star players early before they are about to hit free agency is based on the assumption that the star player will leave in free agency and you need to trade them while their value is the highest. However, for some mysterious reason Kemba really wants to be here, so I don't really see the point in trading him unless its for a great haul.
All I want is to make it to next season with Kemba and most of our players younger than him still on the roster and a new coach.

That's a reasonable thing to expect from a terribly unreasonable franchise.

Maybe we can just fire Clifford and keep everyone else right now.

This so much.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Folks interested in trading for Marcus Smart as our backup PG solution?

I'm really not convinced Smart is a better offensive player than MCW. He is just more confident in his abilities, which might actually be even worse.
His defense would be a nice addition but we really need some offensive consistency more than anything.

Yep, I agree with the sentiment above, I have no interest whatsoever in Smart. Great defensive player, crap shooter, giant ego. If MCW was a 20% better defender but also shot the ball twice as much would you be interested? That's essentially Marcus Smart.

He will be a RFA right? Probably will be looking to get paid.

Smart is a substantially better defender. MCW isn't in the same galaxy as Smart or MKG defensively. He's closer to MKG than MCW. Which would be great if we didn't already have MKG. Having two MKGs is a spacing nightmare.

Fair enough. I doubt this has much chance of happening anyway.
Also J R is a great guy.

I’m so happy we don’t play today. The disappointment of this team be messing up my mood with bad energy.

Charlotte
The Hornets continue to field calls on Kemba Walker, but no Walker deal gets done unless a team absorbs one of the handful of bad contracts on Charlotte’s roster, sources said. Another variable at play: The future of GM Rich Cho. Cho is in the final year of his contract and there have been rumblings that former Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak is a favorite among high-ranking team officials to take over next summer. If Hornets owner Michael Jordan is resolved to replace Cho, he may not sign off on dealing Charlotte’s most appealing asset.
