Hornets interested in Westbrook with caveats

Post#161 » by MasterIchiro » Tue Nov 17, 2020 7:56 pm

I'm giving Westbrook his own thread...he's a HOF. Hornets are interested with "caveats".

What are the caveats?

That we aren't giving up any picks or young core assets and that this is more about making salaries work?

Have to think the caveats are the draft assets or prospects that need to be included.

I can see Houston finally trading Russ for cap relief if no team buckles and offers them the deal they want. I can't see them giving up an asset to get rid of him.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Agreed. I also just saw a report that Russ and Harden want out of Houston because their owner is a Trump supporter apparently.

My thinking is the Wiggins contract cost the Wolves a lotto pick to unload for D'Angelo Russell. So if the framework of the deal is Rozier for Westbrook, I kind of want a lottery pick attached to WB. Maybe pick 16 is not enough and maybe the Rockets have to liquidate more assets to make the deal work.

If we keep our young guys and our picks and get Westbrook just for cap relief, not sure how I'd feel about that. Otherwise, no thanks.

How about this deal

Hornets trade Terry Rozier + Nic Batum for Westbrook + 16 + 21

Sixers trade Horford + 21 + Thybulle for Rozier + Tucker

Rockets trade Westbrook + Tucker + 16 for Horford + Batum expiring + Thybulle.

Horford is better than Turner and we could probably get an asset for taking his contract instead of giving up assets for Turner. If we are trading for Westbrook to go back to pointless 8th seed adventures then we might as well try to get the better player. Getting Desmond Bane with Philly's 1st this year could really help make Westbrook "work".

I don't love this deal for anyone involved, but Rockets get the worst of it. Horford contract is almost as bad as Russ is and they have to give up a first and Tucker (probably worth a late late first).

Rockets trade Westbrook + 16 for Batum + Zeller (38.5 M future cap) + Thybulle

Sixers trade Horford + 21 + Thybulle for Rozier

New lineup surrounds RW with 3 pt threats

Devonte'

Bane (21)
Jalen Smith (16)

Are the Rockets most motivated to begin a rebuild with asset acquisition or to shed salary? Both, obviously, but which is the greater?

Holy god man, you sure you don't want to give Hornets extra firsts lol. No way do we get all that for Zeller, Batum and Rozier

Westbrook's shooting splits in the last three playoffs - 40%/36%(49ts%) - 36%/32%(47ts%) - 42%/24%(46ts%)

I don't know if MJ can resist such a bad idea.

I would say as of today probably 10% chance we trade for Westbrook.

I would entertain the idea of trading for Horford though, he would be a good big for PJ to learn from and also if we get LaMelo I like him as another pick and pop big.

Horford probably has negative trade value right now at 3/78 million moving forward.

Batum and 32 for Horford and 21 might not be bad.

We're taking on two negative value contracts. Rozier fits with Simmons. Sixers get cap. Rockets get 38.5 M in expirings + a prospect Tybullle.

Other way to look at it is we make the playoffs the next 3 years with RW + Horford, stockpile picks (3 + 16 + 21 + 32) and keep all our young core together so we can sustain a playoff run beyond the 3 year window with the vets. Both play hard and will be a good influence. RW really needs to be surrounded by shooters and we do that here.

No free agents will sign here. And we get picks for that empty space.
