I think that players like OG, Jerami Grant, Vanderbilt and KD are getting the majority of the wing market focus now.

I could see once the OG trade happens teams scanning the market and circling back to Oubre, but for now he is out of sight and out of mind. 5 teams are probably making OG a priority, that means 4 will still have a wing spot they may be looking to upgrade in the last 3 hours of the deadline.

Some chatter collected from Plowright. Many thanks for putting this together.

1. The Hornets would prioritize players that can help them next season over future picks.

- this is a bit surprising but also not surprising at all if you know anything about the history of this franchise. Typical of our front office to have zero patients for any type of prolonged rebuild, collecting assets thinking about anything other than next year. Hopefully this means at least prioritizing a few veterans that can straighten out this locker room and teach the kids how to play winning basketball.

2. Mason's trade value is increasing and while we probably won't get a first round pick back for him, it is possible to get multiple second round picks for a player and a second round pick

- this news is not surprising at all given the incredible stat padding being done by plumlord.

3. Nobody is talking about kelly,

- I guess the only people discussing Kelly are me and JMAC

4. Mason is the most likely player to be traded, Terry next

- this is not surprising. I think we would have all put the odds at him getting traded as the highest. It's also not surprising that there are some teams interested in acquiring terry. Plenty of playoffs teams could use that type of offense creation off of the bench. He would make a great six man for a winning team.

5. McDaniels extension. If he isn't traded look for Charlotte to try to extend him before the summer.

- makes perfect sense. If you aren't going to sign him then you better trade him. And if you don't trade him you better sign him now before he hits the Open Market in the summer.

6. PJ mixed bag of interest

7. Hornets want to preserve their cap space for the summer in order to resign some key free agents

It sucks that they aren't prioritizing picks. If anyone in the organization was capable of thinking more than one step ahead about anything the front office might stumble upon the conceptual possibility of trading for a draft pick and then later trading the pick for a better fitting player.

The rest of this is mostly pretty good to hear though.

Seeing some our posters post some wild trades on the Trades board.

Some of yall really want to be even worse next year lol. Trading Hayward, Rozier, Martin, McDaniels, PJ for 1 first type deals.

Even if we get Wemby we would win 10 games haha

Not really, we can lose all those players and fill them out with random vets and be the same team IMO. We'll no doubt be better with Miles and the top 5 pick

Martin I would keep because he is cost controlled

I know you disagree, you've been banging the Washington, Rozier, Oubre torch for ages

We are 15-40, I don't think losing PJ Washington is going to hurt our record. I think you can put in a Jalen McDaniels type and come up with the same record. Likewise, you can replace Rozier with a Caris LeVert type and come up with the same record.

Rozier isn't a top 25 2-guard. PJ Washington isn't a top 25 power forward. There are 30 teams. They both likely won't improve to top 25 status. We should let them go while they still have value to these desperate ass playoff teams

It is called understanding players roles and placing them in roles they can be successful in. When all these guys are forced to play up 1 or 2 roles then yes they will struggle.

None of those guys should be forced into being a 2nd scoring option, but they were for large portions of the season. If you pay them appropriately for the desired roles and execute to put them in those roles they all are good NBA players I would not boot them out the door to overpay other ones.

Rozier- 3rd scorer, off guard
- role he has played this season? 1st/2nd scorer and spent time on ball

Oubre- microwave 6th man who occasionally can start
- role he played this year? starter taking 19 shots per game

PJ Washington- floor spacing 4 who is a 4th option.
- role he played this season? 2nd or 3rd option depending on portion of season.

McDaniels really should be like a 7th man who can give you energy and sometimes score 15 ppg. Not a starter who you need to score 15 ppg per game.

It would be no different for any player you like. If you started Cody Martin and he was having to take 15 shots a night I bet most of us would sour on him as well.

Our talent isn't as bad as our record, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to get better fitting players.

Reasons for our struggles, no particular order.

- Cliff is the coach.
- Injuries.
- No Miles.

Trades can't do anything about that stuff, besides maybe get non-injury prone players. However...

- Too many 1-way players.
- Poor fitting players.

Both of those can be addressed via trade.

I don't really think Cliff has been a reason. I would of expected same issues with Atkinson or JB.

But yeah, our team was pretty much built around having Miles.

We paid Rozier to be a 3rd option behind Miles and Lamelo.
PJ was supposed to be the 4th option.
Oubre was supposed to be off the bench with one of PJ/Hayward
Martin was supposed to be a defensive floor raiser, he hasn't played.
LaMelo was supposed to be a 2nd or 3rd option on offense depending on which Hayward we had that night.

Miles and health fixes majority of the big issues.

We got off to such a bad start without Melo that pretty much set the tone for the season.

I hope we make a trade before the 11th hour. Getting our beak wet tonight or tomorrow with a Plumlee deal would give me some optimism in Mitch.

Thanks Fats for gathering the chatter from Plowright on Hornet’s evident direction/trade situation.

“ 1. The Hornets would prioritize players that can help them next season over future picks.” Agree this doesn’t surprise me, but, do we really need more picks verses acquiring a quality player to help next season (granted, a BIG IF on that even happening)? They really think we are much better when healthy, and they need to show LaMelo we will get him help to compete. More picks won’t do that.

“6. PJ mixed bag of interest”. WHAT A SHOCK (insert sarc). His year was marginally better early…primarily because his role expanded with Miles implosion. Now he just seems like normal PJ, inconsistent and inadequate. I’d include him on deals just because we shouldn’t be targeting him for the money he’s reportedly asking. Brings us to….

“7. Hornets want to preserve their cap space for the summer in order to resign some key free agents”. This front office needs to be very careful here. Overvaluing players on a nearly dead last team can further kill progress.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Healthy, we are better than our record. However, we still aren't that good. We did get blown out in the playin back to back years.

There isn't a compelling reason to not trade some of these players and definitely no compelling reason to keep them on larger contracts. I would trade them for picks. What players could we get back? Prospects. We aren't trading difference makers and we aren't getting one back either. So, in general, I'd take a pick over a prospect. If for no other reason than longer team control.

That said, I still want to keep Jalen and PJ. They're both 2-way players that are good fits with Melo. Just depends on PJ's contract and if Jalen wants to stay or not. Next season or this offseason Gordon has to go. Rozier can go. Oubre and Plumlee have to go. Kai and Thor can be trade bait or bench depth. Bouk needs to go.

Melo - 2nd round pick or Denvers pick
Cody - Bryce
Miles - Jalen
Wemby (dream) - PJ (also small ball C sometimes)
Mark - Nick (if he is around Cody's contract level)

A foundation is there. We just have to put in some good bricks to build it up instead of fistfuls of mud.

"Utah and Los Angeles have discussed many iterations of trades, most of which involve the Jazz sending rotation players like Mike Conley and Malik Beasley to the Lakers for Russell Westbrook and the Lakers 2027 and 2029 first-round picks. If such a deal were to happen, it's expected Westbrook would accept a buyout vs reporting to Utah."

It would be extremely, extremely disappointing if Mitch couldn't/won't beat that. I'd even settle for 1 first round pick.

Gordon and Terry for both those picks and WB. Stop f****** around and get it done already.

Unfortunately, our front office still thinks we are a playoff team on paper. They think we just need a minor tweak here and there and run it again next year and we will be a six-seed.

Mike Conley and Beasley is a much better option IMO, don't get being mad if LAL prefers that.

A trade suggestion from IOhandles...
