Imagine the horror show if Carolina paid Watson 250M or whatever the Browns gave him.

The only reason he didn't come here is because Carolina didn't want the same contract length Watson did.

driveandkick wrote:Just unbelievable. Totally unfathomable. We finally took one of our own and developed him into a near max type of player, but he's just an awful human being. A lot is made about how poorly run we are, some of which is definitely warranted. But this team is historically unlucky. I guess the only thing that could have somehow been more Hornets is if this had happened after signing the extension.

People blaming anyone EXCEPT for Miles have lost it. If I knew I was about to secure a nine figure contract, I'm wrapping myself in bubble wrap until I sign the dotted line. All he had to do was not beat someone up and he's set for life, but he couldn't do it. Don't think it's an overreaction to say that I hope he never plays in purple and teal again.

Only thing I'll say, and please don't interpret this as any sort of excuse or anything, I do like, hope he's okay mentally. He always seemed like a grounded dude and a hard worker. Don't know if something has happened behind the scenes or what, but I had never heard of any sort of character concerns from Miles until recently.

Very much this. I had always viewed Bridges as a nice guy, even after his mouthpiece incident, which I chalked up to more just being upset with the situation and making a mistake in the moment (after which he took the right steps and apologized appropriately). I don't follow social media, so I when I heard everyone talking about his drinking habits and other off-the-court behavior, I was like, "well, maybe that was just a one time thing, or maybe he is able to separate his private life from his professional life since it seems like none of that has ever impacted him on the court, he's only grown and developed as a player and a person," but with this incident, I view everything in a new light now.

The only slight benefit of the doubt I can give him is that maybe he's gotten in with a bad crowd and let them negatively influence him in ways that he didn't before, but even so, you have to be incredibly irresponsible and downright dumb to do something like this on the eve of the biggest moment in your career as a professional athlete.

I can only hope that this serves as a serious wakeup call for him that this life that he has been living, it ain't it. He seemed like a good young man before all of this and he was doing everything you wanted a young player to do on the court, so I just hope that he turns his back on all of this off-the-court crap he's been involved in and goes back to being that sort of person.

I was just about to ask how the NBA has dealt with these sort of issues in the past. I know the NFL seems to come down pretty hard on such behavior (or at least they do now after having been pressured to take harder stances after the softer stances they used to take).

This *** is due back in court on July 20. Are we going to wait until then to settle this? These past few weeks have already been torturous for Hornets fans. Damn it.

Let's just let this play out before we throw the book at Miles. Maybe there's more to it and/or the allegations are not true.

...but if true, it's just heartbreaking man. What an important offseason this is, and there has just been crazy ass nonsense left and right.

Miles is/was my favorite player on my favorite team. God damn it this just hurts.

And talk about optics for the organization just in general. We've gone from the "team full of nice guys" to straight up ratchet behavior (Trez, Oubre, Bouk, now Miles...). God damn it Miles. Just why...

Man, it's better than a soap opera. When does Hollywood start a movie on this young team (i linked an old article about the 'jail blazers as an old 'reference' after the 'pink lemonade' stuff but man, i was far from imagining it could look like this more & more)...?

And it could have been worst for the franchise. Hayward +13 (or 15) traded for cap saving...

Bridges is 24. It should serve as a (tough) reality check but he should redeem himself on and off the court. The timing is unfortunate (and i bet his lawyer will do his job pointing the pressure he has before geting paid a massive amount of money) but if i am cynical, it helps to build leverage to low ball him as some people said (and definitely no 5 years...). Otoh, he is a klutch player, so we will see.

I mean I hear you but there was enough for her to have to get professional medical attention and for them to arrest as a felony hard to believe there is nothing to see here

How do we approach resigning him now? Do we even resign him?

And, if this happens before the draft it changes everything. Tari Eason would be a great fit but nope…

I’m shattered at this news, because the optics are so bad (never, ever put your hands on a woman).

But I agree with luciano - we need to see how this plays out and not jump to conclusions.

As far as the professional medical attention goes: Let’s not forget that last season a fan who got beamed by a ball to her dome went on the news saying she had to take weeks (months?) off work because of the injuries she sustained.

Not saying it’s not true, but I am saying that sometimes when some people see a cash cow in front of them, they grab both teats firmly and milk like hell.

I'm going to wait and get more details before jumping to conclusions, but obviously this is not a good look even if it turns out roses in the end like Rishaun Holmes.

I hope Miles understands how much he **** up. Even if he didn't do it, even just to put himself in a situation where he-said-she-said can occur, this was a life-altering mistake. So there really is no 'good' way to spin it, he's either a woman beater or a wannabe gangster who let the lifestyle cost him tens of millions. He massively **** up.

The only positive I can see right now is he voluntary turned himself in. That's step one, face the music. After that he can pick up the pieces of his reputation and hopefully be a hell of a lot more mature.

Just when I thought coming up with new Steve Clifford takes would be the most unexpected result of the offseason, I'm now looking up the elements of **** felony domestic violence in California.

The mental image I can't get out of my head are the clips of Miles playing with his kids when they run out on the court.

It's just so jarring to see this news.

Regardless of what happened or how this unfolds, just an incredibly sad situation.

So…Miles posts relative to his funky LEAN mix weren’t a big deal….nor was the most recent one from a buddy referencing shrooms….

If you live this life long enough, and see enough to make reasonable assertions based upon same said experience, these things are major warning flags. Have to believe Mitch and company knew possibly even more. Now this…

Bridges did not do a minor thing. He beat a woman (bad enough), to the point she required medical attention (horribly bad), and fled the scene of the crime (terrible decision making). This all adds up to a seriously messed up individual. No way to know how much this damages the team long term, but it’s a kick in the gonads for sure.

Thank goodness he only has the qualifying offer on the table. Presume that means he agrees to one year deal. We certainly wouldn’t match any offer of size at this point.

Disgusting.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
