What made it so evident? I did not see any teams really cash in because they had cap space.

Cashing in doesn't mean you have to use that cap space for a player, you can use it for other reasons too...like not having to stretch bad contracts to get space to sign someone.

Space for facilitating trades and that sort of thing.

My point being that one team got a first rounder for taking on a bad contract. I would rather just have Hayward then Horford, his horrible contract and a the sixers first rounder 5 years from now.

Why did it take JB this long to finally use it?

There's slow, and then there's the deep freeze.

nassir little lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks, hayes is just now getting back to court now too, a wnba player's career might be over, etc. ijs

covid stuff shouldn't be treated like a DNP. it slaps some guys up.

could there be other stuff? sure. i don't really feel comfortable elevating that speculation over the big, clear issue yet tho

(like when people talk about shot selection, consistency, protecting the ball, or defense being something that all players on this team must subscribe to in order to get floor time  )

Monk is the third most talented player on the roster after Hayward and LaMelo imo.

I can't get the memory of Monk going 28% from three last season out of my head. I'm far from a believer that he has a consistent shot until I see it for long periods of time.

You just beat me to this. It'll take a lot to pull me out of Monk funk. He seems to be making less bone-headed plays these days (although he still loves those telegraphed slingshot passes), but remains a guy I only want on the floor when he's hitting everything he puts up. No doubt he's had a couple of good games recently, but it's wait-and-see if he can finally manage to do it consistently. Even if he does, I still see a future of broke Lou Williams.

EDIT: And, if he did start consistently shooting at a good clip - providing a bench boost - I'd immediately start working phones. Next year's a contract year and I have no appetite to extend.

Monk said in an interview that he was going to help get this team out of its slump and so far he has delivered. I'm not fully on board committing to him beyond this season yet, but I'm happy to see him stepping up. I want him to succeed.

I get what JB was trying to do Monk missed alot of practice and the Martin twins are hard working guys and you want to reward guys like that with playing time BUT Monk is just a million times better. you just cant let that kinda talent rot away on your bench

everybody wants Monk playing time because he can score but what about the other side of the ball end of q3 vs MIL for instance bucks had come all the way back to take the lead JB put Martin Twins who are 6'5 w 6'10 wingspans in to create defensive chaos it worked staunched the bleed and CHA went on to win Monk is never going to be big or strong enough to be even an average defender plus he has adhd

I don't blame that on Monk really.

Again, I go back to the guard heavy crutch that JB leans on too often. Monk was essentially playing the 3 at some points in the game. There's no reason Monk and a twin can't coexist. I think back on the mid-2nd in particular - Monk was playing great then was getting visibly winded and overmatched on defense as time went on. There was no reason to continue leaning on a Graham/Ball/Monk perimeter at that point. Throw in a twin.

And it worked later in the game when Caleb came in late to spell Malik too.

More than anything I just don't think Graham next to Monk is worth forcing the issue with unless both are on fire. Felt that way since last year.

Monk is really good (on offense) when and only when he is ON that night. Otherwise, he is a short chucker with loose handles and bad D. I am glad he played well the other night and hope he builds on that but i do not see him ever being a great player for more then a quarter here and there.

Yeah the “bad on D” is a reputation from the original excuse behind Clifford not playing him. He’s no worse than the rest of our non-Martin guards. This guys start to his career really gave him quite the hill to climb. On top of that, coming out of the draft (and not even talking about the Donavan Mitchell cloud that will always hang over his head), we all thought we were getting a great shooter who would be close to 40% or better from 3 but his strength is definitely his ability to get to and finish at the rim and play make for others.

Mr. Monk has a higher trajectory on his three-point shots = higher success rate.

18 FGA’s and 13 of them were from 3.

11 FGM’d and 9 of them were from 3.

That’s a lot.

Thankfully tonight they were going down for us.
