Probably from when he fell on his back, was surprised how quickly he hopped up from that.

This is his third season and only the second time he's been injured, and we don't know the extent of this injury. I think it's too early to act like he's injury prone.
It might also help if the refs would actually call a flagrant, or in some cases even just a foul, on some of the more brutal hits Zeller takes on a nightly basis. It seems like the officials apply football rules to that kid at times, and I don't get why a lot of the hits are overlooked. It's not like Zeller has a rep as an instigator, he just gets clobbered constantly.
He has his flaws as a player for sure, and I hate to put too much blame on the officials for guys getting hurt, but anyone who watches film knows you can get away with teeth-rattling hits against Zeller that would never fly if done to other players. I've begun to wonder if it isn't just common knowledge around the league, or perhaps guys give him a hard foul early to test the water and think "Oh, that's no problem? Great, I'm gonna crush this dude every time he goes up to shoot." It gets ridiculous after awhile, and we all see it, at least judging by comments in the game threads.
I couldn't agree more. Cody gets beat up more than any player I've ever seen without fouls being called. Is it because he falls down a lot? I just don't understand it. And you pegged it about how once it's established that he can be whacked without consequences, the excessive contact only gets worse.

This is something I really respect about Cody.
He gets knocked down. A lot. But he rarely stays down. He tends to pop straight back up regardless of how hard he's been hit.
Very "Aussie Rules" of him.
I like it.

Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
The last two games have been good examples of why I like 23 year old Cody. He was fantastic in the Philly game, showing offensive versatility, running the floor, finishing, closing out 3 pt shooters, and out-rebounding and out-toughing Nerlens Noel.
He had one of his frustrating fumbleitis games in the first half of last night's Indy game, but his combativeness and hustle in the fourth quarter kept alive multiple possessions in a row to squelch any attempt by Indy to comeback.
Cody has mastered quickly slipping screens to make himself a pnr target for Nic and increasingly Kemba. He's knocked down several of those elbow shots that will become more regular as he continues to mature. And as Slam noted above he keeps getting knocked down like a heavy weight but pops up like a kids bop bag.
His punch drunk face and work rate can toughen up our image, and his lunch pail game pairs well with Marvin William's swooping athleticism. His versatility, size and athleticism suit his role as rim runner in the modern NBA. Judge Cody by stereotypical bigs and you will find him wanting, but judge him in light of the post-Golden State NBA, alongside Clifford's preferred 4 out 1 in, and Cody is a fast riser.
Those who've been paying attention recently have heard Stephanie Ready repeatedly praise Cody's improved play.

I'm disappointed Cody is out with a knee issue. He's been playing well of late, especially the 13 reb game vs ORL where multiple times he rebounded the ball while already moving toward offense, leading the team into the fastbreak, nifty trick.

Anybody got any word on how serious or not serious this injury is? I'm expecting him to be back in maybe a game or two but you never know with these things.

Last Hornets PR tweet said Zeller and Hawes both questionable for tonight, I'm guessing at least one of them plays.
It said Zeller just had a bruise on his knee.

Cool so it's not considered anything serious. We need his ballscreens and floor running.

Cody is starting tonight. Wished he could've rested more. Being healthy during the playoffs will be important

Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
Cody post-ASB: 24.6 MPG, 9.3 points, 6.6 boards, 59.5% FG, 80% FT, 65.8% TS. Within 5 feet he's converting at 68%.
I think he is still under appreciated on this roster. For a couple seasons it was frustrating watching him hang out at the top of the key trying to direct traffic because he routinely looked uncertain of what to do with the ball and our team generally had such poor off ball movement that nothing ever happened with those passes. Now you watch him and he regularly directs traffic on offense and seems much more aware of where the ball should go. He rarely makes poor decisions with what he does with the ball. Instead of playing 4 out 1 in with Al, it's more 4 out 1 up top with Cody swinging the ball and then setting our perimeter guys up for PNR actions. It works because Cody is so active that we don't have to wait around for him to set screens. On defense he is a plus defender in almost all situations, whether ISO on the perimeter, in PNR situations, or ISO on the block.
I'm starting to wonder if a big reason that our bench was so productive in November was because they got to play with Cody, who is a great low usage player who screens well and opens things up for other guys. He keeps the ball moving and while he doesn't spread the floor with his shot, he is a very active screener and his cuts create attention from defenses.

Definitely possible. He's definitely the best PnR big on the roster. He and Lin were doing damage before Al's injury and it kept getting better.
Thanks for the honesty.MorbidHEAT wrote:My dislike for Lin started during Linsanity. It was absurd. It's probably irrational dislike at this point, but man he gets on my nerves. He's been tearing us up though.

At the average speed of 4.43 miles per hour Cody Zeller has been the fastest center in the league this season. Running like hell at the height of 7 feet is Zeller's main strength and he has to stick to it come postseason time.

Cody is an athletic freak on par with some of the best in the NBA. It's unfortunate that we haven't found a way to help him use his athleticism to his advantage more often.

he cant use his athletic ability as much as he could because he has short arms and a low reach.

We also don't feed him (or anyone else) the ball much on the break, which I think is mostly by design to limit TOs.

The short arms really hinder Zeller's career outlook. Shame because I'd like to see what he would be capable of with better length

He'd be a better Joakim Noah, i.e. an MVP caliber player.
