This is my perspective on the trade Melo stuff in here:

Read on Twitter

I don't take the Mark Williams trade to be a signal of anything other than that they like Dalton and they thought it was good value to help them build. I don't believe this signals a change of timeline at all, we have much more picks to do things with and that creates opportunities for rapid improvement.

So what’s the big meme for next season, Nurkic expiring and picks big game hunting for whatever name is on the market? “One more year” tank for Dybantsa?

Basically

Keep selling off pieces for late firsts in seconds

when those late firsts and seconds suck, sell them off for late firsts and second

Simultaneously keep saying maybe next year the team will be healthy

Just one more year. Just need lottery luck. Just be patient.

My kids will have kids before the Hornets win a playoff series

The day we got lucky to move up for LaMelo, we should have identified his talent immediately and dumped off Terry and Gordon. Instead we tried the double timeline BS and added Bouknight Kai and Mark the next 2 years after when we should have been contending for Mobley/Barnes/Chet/Paolo. Holding on to LaMelo and Miles if we get a good draft pick this offseason would be making the same mistake again. It’s not the direction I wanted either but it’s the one they’ve taken by trading Mark so just do it full measure, for once

Yes. But the thing is it won’t even be intentional next year. The talent on this roster is genuinely so poor and so thin that we won’t be able to win much even if we play well.

2026 top of the draft is really good though. It’s not just Dybantsa.

Disagree we are a Cooper Flagg away from being back on the upswing.

Melo/Miller/Flagg is still a great core to build around. Use Miles/Nurkic + picks for a legit center and we are back on the path for the playoffs imo.

One player I would keep on the Radar is Deandre Ayton. Nurkic and Josh Green for Ayton and that 2026 first that is really likely to be close to a 2nd might be a good deal for both teams.

Who's the target with all these picks - Giannis? Zion?

This one of the main reasons I thought giving away Richards was a bad move because him at 5 million was probably better than what we would replace him with. I would say it is pretty obvious looking at this draft class and looking at the FA class we will need to be aggressive in the trade market to find our next starting center.

The team to watch is PHX.

If they lose in the 1st round they are likely to blow it up in the off-season. Not sure they are gonna get a ton of picks for a soon to be 37yr old Durant. So they might have to trade Booker to do a true rebuild.

Booker is the name to watch and although we have a lot picks so does a team like Houston who also has young players they can throw in the deal. We don't have that kind of depth to compete with Houston in terms of assets. Most likely Booker gets traded to Houston for Green/Whitmore/picks.

Zion is probably someone who will be more realistic for us.

3 guys to keep your eye on for the Hornets imo based on the team moving on from Mark/Richards to Nurkic/Moussa.
1. Bam - Miami might blow it up
2. Hartenstein - OKC could prioritize Chet and want to spend money elsewhere
3. Sabonis - Kings feel close to blowing it up

All three guys are good passers on the perimeter.
Hartenstein and Bam known for defense.

I forgot all about Bam, that's a dream target. He grew up in North Carolina as well. Bring him home.

Sabonis or Bam would be huge. High IQ bigs who would help with playmaking.

Sabonis would be much cheaper to trade for. Riley is gonna want a lot after trading Jimmy for cheap.

I see Miami as most likely to acquire Durant. They're buyers with treasure and free agent allure.

Bam is there to stay, I'm afraid.

Yep he has Miami written all over him.

It's already reported on wiretap they will trade him because he didn't like being on the trade block without his permission lol

Dallas was the other suitor, but they have nothing to offer.

Houston was the only other suitor but KD didn't want to go there, so Suns and Heat worked on a Butler - KD swap that fell apart. KD wants Miami and there was legwork done to the extent Heat have a pretty solid idea which contracts Suns would command. Since the Heat don't have picks, they'd have to surrender prospects like Jović, Jaquez and two solid contracts like Wiggins plus Duncan Robinson expiring plus one Heat 1st. Houston has far more to offer but KD's rep has already told them he will bolt.

The man is so so needy.

What I learned from this list is we badly **** up trading mark.

The FA list for centers just shows options for C2. We obviously need to upgrade Nurkic to a C1 suitable to a team trying to win a play-in spot.

Since Nurkic will earn ~19 million on his final year, I look for centers earning close to that amount. Only a handful match. Lakers had to go cheap at C given 100 million tied up in BeLuka and LeBron.
