Simmons on Kemba: "Kemba Walker: Maybe he’s a little too overpaid/me-first/one-dimensional/metric-unfriendly right now, and maybe he doesn’t have a conventional position … but he’s competitive enough and fearless enough that he could thrive on a contender someday. In other words, meet the next Monta Ellis."

Thoughts?

My thoughts, well I don't consider him to be the next Monta Ellis. I'd put Kemba in a similar mold of Tony Parker meets Tim Hardaway, but the Ellis comparison shouldn't be looked at as anything but a compliment from Bill Simmons of all people considering his vulnerability to throw shade at the Charlotte Hornets/Bobcats franchise over the years. I disagreed with "maybe...little too overpaid", "me-first", "one-dimensional", and "maybe...doesn't have a conventional position", but Simmons explained Kemba in a nutshell when he credited him for being "competitive enough and fearless enough that he could thrive on a contender someday"

I think being compared to Ellis is a hell of a compliment. Especially considering how Ellis has played this year.

Yeah, a more mature Monta Ellis is not a bad player to become. I do think Kemba has more of a passing instinct (although Monta is underrated in that respect) and could pull off a 50/50 split between creating and scoring if we were more creative.

OT - was disappointed to not see MKG listed in the top 60 most valuable contracts. lets hope the rest of the world keeps sleeping on him so we can lock him up for a long time on a good deal.

MKG is a mystique type of player, not exactly the type of player that teams would be lining up to sign because his numbers on paper don't translate as well as his presence on the floor. I don't think team's are sleeping on him, but I know if I was a GM of another team that didn't watch the Hornets as extensively as I do I wouldn't be jumping at the thought of paying MKG anything above $8 million annually ($10 million annually with the possible 2016 salary cap rise due to the TV deal(s))

Bill Simmons? you mean the 5'7 white guy from the suburbs of Mass? I would never listen to a word that comes out of his mouth. I will listen to Jalen because he has actually done something in his life other than just talk about other people.

Not a bad comp to be compared to Monta even tho I don't think they are similar at all. Monta is erratic, elusive, and explosive while Kemba is smarter, herky jerky with intangibles and play with more heart.

funny you should say that since Jalen is a terrible analyst.

I've never understood why people make this argument. I don't care who the hell you are, you could be a 5'1 African American guy from Siberia. If you provide good content on basketball, I will happily consume it.

Your background shouldn't matter. If that's your way of thinking, I assume you'd love all of your basketball analysis to come from Shaq just because he's a top10, top15 player of all time.

Or how about Magic who's so bad at this that the new generation of NBA fans will think of him as the overly obvious analyst, not one of the best basketball players ever.

Im just not interested in listening to some guy who has absolutely no experience on what hes making a living talking about. That would be like a garbage man evaluating how me or you are doing our job that we have a career in.

If the garbage man studied for a long time and learned about the job then commented sure it is just like that. Unlike a guy who eats a steak and then decided he is the worlds greatest food critic and can't shut up about things he does not come close to understanding.
