Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
I think its probably too risky to pursue a deal, but I'm actually pretty intrigued by Dejounte Murray on this team.
I haven't watched Atlanta play much over the last couple years, but I wonder if the reason Murray's defense has taken a hit there is because he is maybe being forced to guard bigger players than youd want because Trae I assume is generally having to be hidden on the smallest opposing player most of the time.
If Murrays could play up to his reputation in San Antonio again if put in a position to focus entirely on being a PoA defender against opposing PGs, he would actually be a really good fit with LaMelo. Unlike Trae, LaMelo can be hidden on the worst wing sized player and he is also good off-ball, and probably needs to lean more into his off-ball game anyways to save his ankles anyways.
*If* Murray could get back to being a positive PoA defender, I really like the idea of a lineup of Murray/LaMelo/Miller/PJ/Mark
edit: I wish Atlanta had interest in Miles. I would be more willing to take the risk if it was a deal based around Miles + filler for Murray.

Honestly I would trade LaMelo for him.
I just love the thought of building this team around 2 two way wings Miller/Bridges.
Would never happen just something I would if it was actually a possibility.

Nah. Bridges is already gonna be 28 next season and we are at the very beginning of our rebuild the way I see it. Plus long wings like Cody Willians and Risacher will probably within our range this draft.
I'm looking at what type of package Nola could give for Lamelo.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

I imagine some combination of Daniel's, Jones, Murphy, Hawkins, picks, and of course McCollum for finicial matching.
Also the rockets would be a good spot for a Lamelo package. Could atleast get Jalen Green out of them and some picks. Melo and Sengun could be a fun duo if they get surrounded by strong defenders.

Wait you seriously want to trade LaMelo?
Didn't think people were serious about trading him. Pretty sure in reality there is no way we think about trading him for the foreseeable future. I imagine he sells a lot of merchandise for the franchise. Melo is still one of the more popular players in the league. I think they will give Melo/Miller the keys and build around them.

Nah I'm still far from wanting Lamelo gone. It's been another frustrating season with his injuries, but that stretch he was on before the Orlando injury is a reminder of why he is the most talented Hornet ever. I still wouldn't label him as untouchable, but it would take alot of factors to wanna really trade him. Just toying with what a Lamelo trade could net us.
It also does feel good to have a actual mainstream player on our squad. When I went to New York a few months ago, I saw Lamelo's face plastered around time square more than any other Knicks player

I'm down on Lamelo but wanting to trade him is just wild. A 3 of Lamelo Mikal Bridges and Brandon Williams at the 1 2 and 3 is enticing, though.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
Mikal defense has taken a step back as he has become more of an offensive player, still a good defender, but he grades out according to EPM as like the 80th best defender in the league right now.
Houston is offering them a god like package to get him, but I think he is ideally a really good #3 or a #2 next to a top 5 player. If you try to trot him out as arguably your best player you aren't going anywhere, see Nets record for evidence.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
We're really saying things like let's trade Miles for a future second or let's trade LaMelo + 3 firsts for Mikal Bridges? What is this? We need to get better not worse. Mikal Bridges is highly over-valued by the Nets right now and it's because they got him by trading Durant. I think the Nets will get tired of the treadmill by next year and come down to earth on his value.
We're in position to take on a Wiggins or Ben Simmons for draft and/or young players package now.
Although I will say, throw my hat in the ring on Dejounte. I like him next to LaMelo and they're kind of interchangeable. I think they can both play on or off ball and still be productive.

At some point LaMelo's value is gonna dip significantly if he can't stay on the court my guy. 4 years now of him struggling to play half the games. Mikal plays every game. I didn't consider the age thing, I thought Mikal was 24 or 25 lol. So yes I would reconsider that.
Obviously this team has a lot of holes to fill. It will be interesting to see how the deadline plays out

Ben Simmons would be awesome if he didn't have the mental issues. He's a guy we could play as that backup PG role when LaMelo gets injured.Rich4114 wrote:We're really saying things like let's trade Miles for a future second or let's trade LaMelo + 3 firsts for Mikal Bridges? I would probably take the gamble even though I'm 70% confident he wouldn't play that much for us. The picks would be the main reason I take him on.

Agreed 100% about Ball. He's far and away our best player and showed flashes of being elite earlier this year before he got hurt. But he's chronically hurt and it's been a pattern for 3 years now.amcoolio wrote:Rich4114 wrote:We're really saying things like let's trade Miles for a future second or let's trade LaMelo + 3 firsts for Mikal Bridges? I'm not suggesting we deliberately shop him right now but if some team calls and offers a kings ransom for him, we'd be foolish to not entertain it.
If he does get hurt again like he has been this year, then I'm moving squarely into the deliberately dangle him camp bc if we wait too long and he gets a damaged goods label, he'll be difficult to move with his contract..

LaMelo is 22 years old, he is younger than Jaime Jacquez. Let that settle in.
There is no way I am trading him, especially when Miller is 21 and whoever we draft top 5 this year will likely be 20 years old.

Well, it’s one thing to be tired of the injuries. It’s another to see the same thing happening over and over, to the same body part. That’s called chronic. I’m not advocating trading Melo. However, I was on this forum as concerned when his ankle was re-injured that first time. Ankles can lose support strength when stretched over multiple incidents. That ligament and tendon support loss is often permanent. When it happened again this season, it rang alarm bells. He refuses to wear bracing. Hopefully they’re taping him up well. Hopefully he will be conditioning his body and ankle area in the off-season to better support the weakened areas.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I wonder if Melo would be playing if this season wasn't already lost. Feels like most guys playing over 30 min a night are dealing with some kind nagging issue by this point in the season.

Hopefully Melo will be a Steph and not a Brandon Roy.
But yeah. if he has the same issues next year and isn't more mature (wear a brace, work on his body etc.) then he should be traded before he becomes our Bradley Beal.

At least we control what happens to LaMelo. Miles, on the other hand, we could end up with nothing to show for a guy we traded a 30-point scorer for.
