This guy has a big ass watermelon head. And I'm going to miss Dunlap's snazzy suits.

Oh well. Here's to hoping this vague/random guy works out!

Not really vague or random. He is from the same coaching tree as Thibideaux. There have been some promising guys from there. He has been in the NBA for a long time and was being interviewed for almost every open job there was this summer.

How do you rate his smile to Dunlap's though?

I think it might edge him out, just.

Just stop. Whichever "coaching tree" he comes from does not determine how vague or random he is. Just ask some dude named Mike Wilhelm, who also worked with Thibodeau (not Thibideaux) tree and has 16 years of NBA experience. I know what you're saying, "who?"

There is no need to justify this guy to make ourselves feel better. I'm sure he was a fine assistant under the Van Gudy Bros. and I'm sure he knows he stuff. But a guy who has no head coaching experience other than 4 years at a D2 school and was not one of the "hot name" guys like Budenholzer, Shaw, Malone, and the like is going to be considered a vague or random hire.

Especially when the general reaction was "I need to look this guy up".

If everyone is interviewing him he is not RANDOM. Dunlap was random. He is not vague if he is noted as an interest for so many teams. I think you need to stop and grab a dictionary.

Did you (or the general public) know who he was before we hired him?
Did you (or the general public) know he coached under the Van Gundy Bros. before we hired him?
Did you (or the general public) consider him a hot name among the coaching hopefuls?

Way to find one. Now look up random and vague.

I considered him a hot name when it was in every single opening. The Suns, Bucks and Bobcats all had him in. I don't follow the assistants thoroughly so I personally did not know him no. Does not mean he is a random or vague. The people who hire and know coaching all were interested in him.

Oh garsh, looks like the defense for this guy is very strong already.

Here's to hoping he works out better than the random-but-less-random-than-the-last-random guy we brought in

Some of us choose to look on the brightside SWedd, who are you to rain on people's parade?

@jdm3 is correct though, he's not a random from within NBA circles, does that mean that because you don't know who he is that he is a "nobody"? maybe it is your knowledge that is lacking.

I'm not saying he sucks and I'm not raining on any parade. I want him to work out. I really, really, really do! I'm just saying he's random. Because he is.

I feel like you made that same statement last year regarding Dunlap. People can justify whichever hire in whichever way they want, but there's a reason such a "highly regarded" guy didn't get a job until now and even then it's with the team owning by far the worst reputation in the league.

Oh you got me there! Please, regale me with some of your personal Clifford anecdotes.

I just found some positive. Apparently the BRD has a degree in special education.

Looks like we found a perfect fit

Oakley, the guy with terrible back pain and had to quit after one year on the job? Yeah, I'm sure he was teaching guys a lot. "Okay Biz, go do some drills for an hour, I have to go lay down."

You do realize that every coach in the league had to wait to get their first coaching job at some point. Mike Malone, Hornacek, Budenholzer and Clifford are all going to be first time head coaches in the league. Under your logic they all are bad coaches because they are just now getting a job.

Are you just hating to hate. I have not heard you say what you would of wanted instead. If we would of hired a veteran like Scott, Skiles or Gentry you would probably be clamoring about them not being successful and that they are jobless for a reason.

To me I would want to take a chance on a guy, who is going to give this his all and grow with the team. He may be the next Thibs, Pop, or great coach, whereas Scott or Gentry are unlikely to become a perenial coach of the year contender at this point in their careers.

guys, what does it matter if he's a random or vague hire or not. look at his qualifications, his history, relationships with players. it's not the great american novel here.
