Not much to be honest. We went from slightly over the cap to about $3m over, so unless we move Al or Marvin we're just not gonna have space.

what about down the line?

If we don't resign Batum, we have a **** ton of cap space to spend next year and even if we do resign we will still have a lot of cap room.

I'm never confident that we will attract a free agent, hopefully where a chance to at least resign a player

I wish . Two dysfunctional front offices trading with each other . I'm just waiting for Cho and Clifford to be fired and for us to have a proper rebuild. I know they are just mix tapes but watching the mix tapes of Josh Jackson, Harry Giles, and Jayson Tatum made me forget about these last two awful trades for a second.

first sliding all the way to 9 and now being dumped after his rookie year, Vonleh probably has a huge chip on his shoulder right now

I'm thinking there is a reason he slid to 9 and was dumped after his rookie year.

By the end of the summer next year we will probably have Kemba, Batum, MKG and Jefferson locked up for several years on deals in the 12-15 mil range, each. Lets assume about 55-60 mil for all 4.

I honestly don't know why anyone is surprised that Cho is in win now mode. Its looked that way to me since the team missed the playoffs. Both Cho and Cliff have a lot to prove this year. Cho's comments about not sticking with things that weren't working was about more than just Lance.

I'm OK with this trade. The team really didn't need 2 young PFs. I do think that MKG is going to struggle to find PT unless Cliff does slide him to PF some nights.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

MJ is not about to have a rebuilding lottery team when the All-Star game comes to town in 2017. We are all in on winning now, at least until after 2017. You can take that to the bank as well.

Vonleh and Cody gave them a surplus to shake things up.

Now they have Batum + MKG at SF.

Kemba would be devastated but it seems Lamb would keep his fire strong.

I mean, if you just include Batum as the final piece in the Ben Gordon trade, it sounds pretty good. *reaches desperately for straw*

some of y'all need to step off the ledge. Batum and MKG can play together. Some of you forget that Batum is a 37% career 3 pt shooter and also one of 3 to average 6 assists and 5 boards over the last 3 years. Batum will be starting at the 2 IMO

yeah i was just about to say thats one of the big driving forces behind this win-now mode. Nobody wants to have an embarrassingly bad team when they will be showcasing their city/franchise to the world.

Batum will be the starting 2 guard. MKG will see 35 minutes a game.

Batum is a slightly better Gerald Henderson. Not worth giving up Vonleh for.

Hate this trade.

Yeah, I think this aspect of the win-now mode is easy to see. MJ is super competitive and there is no way he is going to invite the NBA and media and all the stars to his house for a week, only to be the butt of endless jokes about how his franchise sucks. We are 100% all in on winning until after the all-star game, at least. That also probably means re-signing Jefferson next summer as well as re-signing MKG and Batum + trying to add another big player next summer. At the very least, assuming our young players get better and we keep all those players, we should be a mid-level playoffs team in 2017.

Except you know he can actually shoot the 3 and is a better defender

Yup, the fact that its MJ just multiplies it by 1000. The positive for me with this is i've been wanting to see a playoff win (1 game) for over a decade. We better accomplish that this year.

I'm guessing Portland wanted no part of Zeller. I would have given up Zeller before Vonleh if we really had to do a Batum trade.

Vonleh has Draymond Green potential but with a better body! Ughhhhhh

I'm kinda surprised to see so many down on this deal. I think it's a great pickup. Batum and MKG on the wings is a tough pairing, we have good size their now as well as long defenders who will play the passing lanes and run. Batum is versatile enough to play 2-4, he can help facilitate the offense and he can shoot from outside. I love this pick up, and as far as Cho, I've pretty much supported all of the moves he's made, I think he's done a great job bringing in talent from free agents to his draft picks. Last years injuries, and the previous years bad fortune of getting Miami in round 1 kind of threw shade on the work he's done for us. I'm excited to see what we still have in store. I want to see MKG play the SG role too, I think he'd be too much inside for opposing SG's.

No more excuses for Walker. If he can't play alongside Batum, he can't play alongside anyone.
