He's coming to take MKG'S spot. Love it.

Everyone: People are entitled to their opinions, but please share them respectfully.

Let's refrain from the nastiness that is being released from both sides of the Miles Love Dome/Miles Ring of Hate.

Mock Miles measureables all you want.

This pick is about skill. And you're gonna find that out.

This is what kind of frustrates me. For 3 years now 95% of this board has been screaming at Clifford to play a small-ball 4, and now that we go and get one....we don't want that anymore? It literally just seems like complaining for the sake of something to do.

Not to mention the fact he's lost weight to be more mobile (scary) or the fact that everyone seemed to want him last year.

It's clear I just don't understand why you wouldn't at least try and be optimistic about a team you (I assume) cheer for...I have been skeptical about a lot of our moves throughout the years, but I still want them to work out. Though I guess that's just how people are now, as evidenced by peoples reaction to the POTUS 8-)

I get the skepticism about his length, but I just don't think its that big of a deal. He's just as strong as Draymond coming out of college and he's WAAAAY more athletic and explosive. I'm not saying he will be a defensive stalwart, but he has plenty of tools, not to mention those same players have to figure out how to guard him on offense. Do I wish he was 6'10"? sure, but hes not. I don't know why, I just have a good feeling about him, and I LOVE his fit with Monk. I'm a big fan of positional versatility.

Draymond Green's wingspan is 7'1". I don't think it's a good comparison at all.

Way to edit you calling it "dumb" lol. So a couple inches in standing reach and a few inches of wingspan is not made up for by the vast difference in athleticism, in fact they are still so much more important that the comparison is "dumb". OK, just making sure. Why doesn't everyone just draft only tall guys with long arms and not bother with anyone else? They are clearly wasting their time.

He's not overly quick, but he certainly isn't slow. He's far more athletic than most 4's in the NBA I'd say. He's not ideal to put on a wing on the perimeter, but MKG is and how has that worked out? He's plenty big and quick enough to switch on anyone. I don't think he will ever be an all NBA defender, but I don't think it will be a glaring weakness either. I also think his offense will make up for it. The Draymond reference was simply for their size, it is simply overblown.

The fact is, we don't know how anyone is going to turn out, but to be all down in the dumps about a guy because hes short for the traditional image of his likely position is kind of silly. But whatever, if you guys want to be all doom and gloom have at it, I'm just ready to enjoy some dunks and 3 pointers.

Kemba is too short to be a starting PG. He's a chucker and a 6th man. This slant on Miles is identical. It's a rerun.

So where's the argument that Miles has a low ceiling coming from.. I feel like people are actinlike we drafted a 23 year old or something

I'm pro-Miles, but here is the narrative as I understand it.

1. He went back to school and did not show meaningful statistical improvement. [Ignores the fact that his position changed and that year 2 he had much more talent around him]

2. His measurements do not fit a traditional SF or PF. [Mitigated by positions becoming less important in the NBA IMHO]

3. Low steals indicates lack of court awareness. [Does not take into account the system in which he played - which discouraged steals]

4. His game wasn't focused on just one thing like big time scoring. [I see this as a strength, but YMMV]
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Basically Miles is Jack of all trades, master of none. We got a guy that can plug a hole. Don't expect much more.

- classic tweener who doesn't have the handles to be a perimeter guy or the height, length, or physicality of a PF.
- questionable shot creation
- should be good enough to not be a liability anywhere but there's nothing that he does that's well above average.

Obviously far from a finished product since he's 20, but not every 20 year old has a super high ceiling. I think the potential is there for him to be an above average 2-4 defender if he's committed to that, but I'm just not seeing a dynamic offensive skillset. It just feels like we drafted a taller Gerald Henderson or a smaller Marvin Williams. Both are nice pieces to have, but always leave you wanting more. Best case is like Tobias Harris?

I was upset with pick initially, still upset to be honest. However looking back at the draft, I didn’t love a lot of prospects left on board. I really wanted Carter, Mik Bridges, Sexton or Knox there. Tough run out for us, would of preferred SGA slightly I think but it’s not a big difference.

So here are the 5 things about Miles that could make me smile.

1. He chose #0, which even tho is popular now, is the swaggiest number. It’s the new #1.

2. He is opposite of Bagley in the fact he is one of the most ambidextrous players in the draft. Watching him play he finishes equally well with both hands.

3. He is an in game dunker, I counted in highlight tape 20+ dunks. That was only about half of his games played which was 34. I am going to assume he averaged nearly a dunk a game in college. Which would average out to 60-90 dunks in the nba, which would place him only behind LeBron, Greek, Durant, and Aaron Gordon (excluding big men). On par with Josh Jackson and Andrew Wiggins who had 65 and 58 this season.

4. Piggy backing off that last reason, I see a lot Josh Jackson in Miles Bridges. At first you wouldn’t think so, but Bridges has lost 20 pounds and around 215 lbs now. Both guys are Swiss army knifes that don’t excel at any one thing, but are solid at many. Nearly the same height, Miles a little bigger.

Suns tried playing Jackson at the 4 in start of season and didn’t work. Although I think he is 3/4 combo just like Miles. If you look at college stats they are really close.

Miles
17.1 pts/7.6 rebs/2.7 assists/37.5% 3p%

Jackson
16.3 pts/7.4 rebs/3 assists/37.8 3p%

5. He has team leader potential as he has a bit of Draymond in him attitude wise.

Thinking about Miles a bit more... we needed more finishers at the rim. Especially in our front court. We don’t have a lot of them and we lost one when Dwight left. We also needed an energy attitude guy and someone throwing down monster dunks will get the home crowd going and motivate the team. The NBA is becoming positionless. So fit him on the floor and make sure we have enough size to match up defensively. It’s not like he’s going to be worse than Frank at defending even though he’s shorter.

The biggest thing is will this guys offensive game translate to the NBA. It really seems like it would. Like any rookie, we likely won’t be able to tell much until year 3.

I will say that he will be better than what we have and he will not be a bust based on play. Injury maybe but not play. He will be an average player who we will look to resign. Wont be a star tho.

I don't remember being this excited about one of our draft picks in a long, long time.

Maybe ever?

Nice, Brooklyn here, was in LA for 6 years so I picked up some Lakers fandom since the Horncats aren't really competing against the West for titles or anything. Being a Hornets fan is an art of passive submission until they actually do something (God that 2016 team was fun).

Neither can I. I literally flipped last night when he was traded to us. My neighbors probably heard me, but it was a great moment for me as a Hornets fan.

Alright the arguments pro Miles make me feel even worse about him. Size does still matter in this league. Miles does not have ideal length to cover power forwards in this league like a proper tweener should. I mean just look at how short and stout he looks out there. He is also way to slow vertically to guard 3 or 2 guards in this league. Sorry but the Kemba comparison does not work here. Kemba had elite speed and a solid handle coming into the league. Tell me a skill Miles is above average to elite at that will help make up for his size deficiency right off the bat? Miles is not an ideal power forward to run a small ball line up in as your small ball 4 needs elite IQ, speed, or shooting for it to work. As of right now, Miles has none of that and if he never develops any of those, he will not find success in the NBA
What this team needs more than anything is playmakers/guys who can handle the ball. Right now we have 2 maybe 3 guys like that, and we can all agree Miles will not help in that category.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?
