Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
I'm a fan of Zellers so I preface this with I hope he isn't moved. That said, the chatter about Frank playing center combined with signing Hibbert as his bookend has me believing Cody is gettable unless there's faith he'll be a passable floor spacer. Also, Cho is angling for 2017 cap space and Cody's contract carries uncertainty and a fairly sized cap hold.
Depth chart: Cody - Frank 2O - Hibbert 2D. In a perfect world Cody acquires a shot and Frank has the requisite strength allowing both players at 4/5 while switching onto perimeter 3's......problem solved. However, questions arise if Cliford isn't blowing smoke about Frank AND there's reduced faith in Cody's perimeter comfort level on offense. If that happens Cody playing > 22 minutes/game is unlikely. Oh, and I'm crazy enough to believe Marvin will play spot minutes at C by 2017-18.
Sessions + Lamb + MKG + Cody + Hibbert is a critical mass of potential floor spacing accommodations. If Cho's next acquisition is a rotation power forward then Frank eating C minutes is legit. Cody on the market would be for a larger-framed starting caliber C likely on an expiring or Player Option.

Re: Barbeque Chicken: The Cody Zeller Thread - Pt 2
Just looked it up and learned Cody is just 6 months older than Frank, didn't realize that.
It will be interesting to see what we do with Cody. I like him and think he could be excellent value as part of a gang approach to our bigs - he is one of the fastest bigs in the league and is very, very good in PNR situations offensively, which is a great fit for this team. Our understanding of his value is deflated somewhat by virtue of the fact that he was in arguably the worst possible situation for his skillset for two years in playing next to Al or Biz. Running him at C with a floor spacing PF makes him much more effective.
With that said, is he a clear cut big minute starter? At this point in his career the answer is no. I think Cody is probably one of the easier pieces to upgrade via FA given his skillset relative to Cs across the league, but none of the marquee FAs are C's. The best C FAs next summer are Gobert (RFA), Adams (RFA), Noel (RFA), Bogut (will turn 33 in Nov. 2017), and Monroe (if he opts out).
By contrast, there are three unrestricted PFs on the market next summer that would be major signings - Blake, Millsap, and Ibaka. You could bolt Cody next to any three of those and it would work well.
Is Cody an attractive trade candidate for other teams? I would guess not for all the reasons that folks here have talked about.

If we keep Cody he will be the second highest paid player on the team unless we also sign a max free agent lol .

I'm interested in seeing how he plays against Team USA later this month.

If he doesn't improve over what he showed these last two years and he's looking at $15M from someone, I'm trading him. I'm not interested in paying $15M for a below average starting center that gets tossed around like he does. He's a good player, but no he is not that good. Hoping Cho can lock him down for the same extension Meyers Leonard just took with Portland.
investigate Adam Silver

I could see cody getting like 4/$64. He's young and a great emerging talent. He's limited a bit by his size and shooting and doesn't have prototypical size so I don't think he gets a noah or biyombo deal but teams are always going to be interested in impact defensive big men.
I don't think anyone will offer him a max unless he becomes a positive on the offensive end, but I could be wrong.
We are certain to match any offer he gets, we'd have to be total morons to let him go after we paid to develop him into the player he is today. Oh wait we did that with biyombo. Sigh

I wonder if Cho will try to get an early deal done like he did with Lamb. He's had a longer stretch of time to evaulate Cody, so it'll be different from the Lamb error in that respect.

I doubt cody signs for less than 4/$64 early. He's probably asking for 4/$72.
Zeller/kaminsky gives us a nice center rotation in the postseason against most teams in the EC.
We just need to hope we don't run into Detroit.

Kaminsky can't hold his own on defense against NBA centers. He has enough trouble with power forwards. Cody relies more on speed, positioning, and footwork than strength, but he sure as heck falls down a lot. The coaching staff may try Frank at the five, but he will fail.

I'm not assuming that Frank at the 5 will work most of the time. But when other teams go really small it should be fine. Frank as our ultra small ball center seemed like an idea worth trying to me.
The should be an interesting year for Cody. The team got Hibbert to be his backup, but you know that Hibbert is going to push to start more than Al did. The coaching staff is already talking about Frank at the 5 some. Cody is going to have some pressure on him IMHO.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Restricted free agent Miles Plumlee and the Bucks have come to terms on a four-year, $52 million deal, agent Mark Bartelstein tells ESPN.
Cody should send Milwaukee a thank you note. Worse than the Mozgov signing?

He averaged 14 mpg I honestly didn't even think MIL wanted him
I literally thought we might sign Plumlee this offseason for like >$5M /

The bad one. I actually like him as an energy big and PNR guy, but yeah this is not good for them. Monroe has to get moved.

I thought the one in Portland was the good one.
