Only way I see it happening is if you guys just pretty much copy/paste the Kyrie deal, but in reverse, and do IT + Crowder + BKN pick for Kemba. IT + Smith + Shump + BKN pick for Kemba + Batum.

I honestly think Kemba is as good as Kyrie (and was better last season), so if the consensus is that Cleveland got robbed by in the Kyrie trade, then I don't see why people don't think it is justified to pay a slightly worse package for a similar player on a better contract who doesn't have intangibles/drama issues.

Kemba and Lebron would be fantastic together. Batums contract is insane garbage, but he might actually be pretty decent for you guys in his rightful place as 4th/5th option glue guy and hed clearly be much better than JR or Shumpert. You'd really be all in on Lebron staying if you added those two and the team would be super expensive, but I don't see many better options for you guys to be able to close the gap with Golden State at all.

Kemba/Wade
Batum/Korver
Lebron/Crowder
Love/Green
TT/Frye

Maybe I'm biased because Kemba and Lebron are my two favorite players, but I think that might be able to get it done. Kemba isn't going to cry about not getting pampered enough and would even be willing to be 3rd option and focus more on playmaking/defense (hes also elite at C&S 3s). Batum isn't that good, but has length and would fill a needed role on offense and helps balance out the rotation (might be better to start Korver at SG?).

I can't see the Cavs aren't taking back Batum.

You are already paying 24 million for complete dead weight (Smith + Shump) for two more years and then 14 mil the next year. The last year of Batums contract is probably going to be painful, but swapping Shump/Smith for Batum is basically cost neutral for the next couple years and the Cavs would also be upgrading their rotation.

I actually think the 2nd deal was better because instead of losing Crowder for nothing you are getting rid of your two worst rotation players for a clear upgrade at the cost of distant future cap space. You are upgrading PG and improving your wing depth instead of diminishing it.

Shump is expiring next year and JR is essentially expiring next year. This is like asking the Cavs to extend JR & Shump for two more years. I just don't see the Cavs doing it. Maybe you'll get another team to eat Batum's deal, but I really don't see Dan Gilbert agreeing to go into the repeater tax for that long.

It wouldn't be like asking them to extend JR and Shump. Batum is still considerably better than both of them even though he isn't good. Once the Cavs trade the Brooklyn pick they don't have many good options for turning JR and Shumpert into anything useful and I doubt the Cavs are getting far enough under the cap to sign a big free agent after their contracts expire if Lebron is still there.

I'm not suggesting this because I care about the Hornets getting rid of Batum's contract. I'm rooting for Lebron to beat Golden State and Kemba is my favorite player and I think this increases their chance of winning a ring over the next couple few years.

If there is an alternative for dealing with the rest of the dead weight in the Cavs rotation then they should go for it. Getting George Hill for a 2nd round pick and then using the Brooklyn pick for Kemba or another star would definitely be preferable to getting Batum for Smith/Shump. However, if nothing else is available then I think the deal I proposed with Batum would be preferable as a standalone deal compared to first proposal. The Hornets could potentially add a 2nd round pick or something to deal for taking on Batum.

I don't know if the Cavs would, but I'd put IT & Frye (both expiring) on the table with the Brooklyn pick for Kemba right now. But I wouldn't also take back Batum. That's where I get off the train.

That makes sense, especially if they plan to continue using Love at center. Frye definitely seems more expendable than Crowder.

I think Frye, Crowder and IT with the pick for Marvin and Kemba makes a lot of sense. Marvin is a good defender who matches up well with the Warriors and Celtics on defense and is also shooting exceptionally well and would get plenty of open kick out looks with the rest of that group.

I mentioned a very similar trade not long ago, and I still like this version the best amongst all ideas I have seen

This is very realistic and I think would work well for both teams.

I'd do that one as well. Might have to send back Rose (cut) in order to make the tax bill a little less awful this year.

I was wondering how ya'll view MKG right now?

Would ya'll trade him for a straight salary dump, do ya'll think he could even be traded for a straight salary dump, or do ya'll still view him as apart of your core and you wouldn't trade him without getting something decent back?

The front office seems convinced that they can turn this season around. As long as that's the case they will not dump him.

MKG is also still super young. In spite of having 6 years in the league, he's only 24. The knock on him, bad offense, has been less true this year than in the past. If they were looking to dump the team would almost certainly look to dump someone older.

I do think that he could be had in trade ... I just don't think that cap space is what the team would want back.

Thanks! I can certainly see that point of view.

Do you think they'd actually be able to trade some of the older guys for straight cap space though?

I don't think anybody is untouchable. I don't think they would trade MKG in a straight up swap b/c it isn't likely they'd get similar value back. IOW, Charlotte (rightly) values MKG more than anybody else probably.

Hornets get:
Zach LaVine
Niko Mirotic

Ya'll keep Kemba, dump Batum's salary. Niko and LaVine both help you space the floor. You can keep or dump both next year (LaVine RFA, Niko 12.5m Team Option)

Bulls get:
Batum
Kaminsky

Batum slides into our starting SF slot, Kaminsky backs up Lopez for a year before taking over starting job. We do the deal in anticipation of drafting Trae Young. LaVine and Young wouldn't work as a back court, so we have to move on from LaVine. Obviously this deal is only offered to ya'll if our management decides it wants to go after Young. Otherwise we are hitching our wagon to LaVine's future.

Thanks for the thought, but it's hard to think you are a real bull fans for proposing this. Ofc Hornets would agree and even give couple 2nds without blinking.
Bulls would spend most of their payroll on bodyguarding Paxson & Forman... Basically trading Butler for Batum and his contract (even though Dunn looks promising obviously), ouch...

I would've traded Batum for LaVine BEFORE this disastrous season, yeah I'd do this one in a heartbeat. Makes little sense for Chicago though. Even they wanted to draft Trey Young, you keep LaVine since he's younger and nearly as good as a healthy Nic.

Yep, all day long, in a millisecond. But no way this trade happens.

Still...the reality of our situation is the need to get rid of Batum. That action, if possible, could enable this team to keep Kemba and try to micromanage changes for improvement. I still think we have little hope of doing anything significant without a complete rebuild, but short of high lottery picks and perfect luck. It may not matter.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
