Batum, MKG, and Julyan Stone to the NYK for:

Noah (1 less year of money owed, can negotiate a lower buy out if he refuses to report, which is totally possible with that dude)
Courtney Lee (we need scoring)
Dougie McBuckets (we need scoring)

Kemba
Lamb
Lee
Marv
Dwight

Monk
Dougie
Graham
Frank
Cody

We would still suck, but owe less money! And might score actually on the second unit!
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

Trying to figure out how we can reduce our long term salary while maintaining competitive pieces. Thoughts around the following deal?

Batum + MCW for Rubio + Joe Johnson

We reduce long term committed salary, improve our backup PG, get a nice size expiring in JJ who can play spot minutes for us.

Not sure how Utah feels in all honesty. Would they require more incentive or do they think they can get more about Batum and do they feel it’s their best chance of getting a player that they might not get through FA?

My goal was to move Batum and his albatross of a contract. People may say I’m selling low on him but getting out of his contract and get shorter term contracts will allow us to better reposition and build around Kemba when he’s due his massive pay day.

Try this one for Batum...

Batum and Lamb to Sacramento for George Hill and Vince Carter

Batum gives them a needed starter at SF, and provides veteran leadership for their young developing players. Lamb gives a player to score from the bench.

Carter could get some minutes here, and expires saving the money we need. Hill is backup PG that is needed and can play beside Kemba

Honestly, I like Hill but that still goes against what my main objective was: clear up cap space and get us away from the luxury tax threshold while maintaining competitiveness in the East. I personally don’t see Sacramento biting on that deal with batum due to length of contract and amount. IMO, they’re looking to develop their younger players. My gut says if this deal were to go down they’d rather have something along the lines of Lamb and Marvin, that way they still get a younger player and savvy vet in Marv.

I don't think there is an option that gets us away from lux tax plus remain competitive in the east. Since it is highly unlikely we make the playoffs and if we do, it'll be as #8 - then we ought to be finding ways to get out of lux tax and look at our situation 2 years from now. We should be trying to trade 4 year contracts for 2 year contracts.

Dreaming of having a Spaniard playing in Charlotte so:

A) I can buy a Hornets jersey in Spain
B) We receive at least some coverage

And I think Willy would be a very positive addition, though I see him going to the Spurs.

pass. I haven't seen a ton of Willy, but from the sounds of it, he's just as bad a defender as Frank, but with a much less diverse offensive skill set.

I don't think Orlando does this, but if they would, I'd cut Cleveland out of this. I'm fine with the Kevin Love deal, but I'd rather have Aaron Gordon. I'm assuming you'd have to dump Howard to clear space to resign him, which is fine since we would also have Biz. Starting lineup with current ages...

Two of our best shooters and a pick for a player who plays no defense and can't stay off the trainer's table? That was a joke. Right? Somebody tell me that was a joke. Please?

Seth Curry will undergo season-ending surgery on his left tibia.

Curry's recovery process will take 12-14 weeks.

Curry is expected to be back on the court by the start of free agency on July 1st. Curry will be an unrestricted free agent.

Curry signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Mavericks in 2016.

There goes my hope of turning our Cleveland 2nd rounder into a serviceable backup PG

I want no part of IT. I'd rather to get Kevin Love if we have to trade Kemba to Cleveland.

With the addition of Willy I really want to trade Dwight now. Give Zeller the start, give Willy minutes, Frank is 3rd centre

Why not take a calculated risk and make a strong play for Jabari

Dwight / Monk and a 2019 first to Milwaukee for
Jabari / Brogdon (out for duration of year with injury) / Henson

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8atutxd

Why for Milwaukee - They have a gaping hole at center and need a rim protector. Howard is a significant upgrade over Henson. Brogdon is out for the next couple months with the quad tear and should ideally sit out the rest of the season. Monk gives them a prospect to develop and firepower off the bench in the meantime. Since Greek Freak runs their offense, Monk can play off the ball where he thrives. Parker is on minutes restriction for the rest of the season coming back from his latest ACL tear and is going to cost them max dollars to retain. The Charlotte first will be valuable.

Why for Charlotte - Hornets gamble on Parker staying healthy. They test drive him in 2019. If he can, they have an instant allstar and can max him after next year. If he blows out his knee again and the gamble fails, just let him walk. Losing the first and monk will sting but it wont be as if theyve bet the farm. Henson is a useful rotation player and Brogdon can start at PG next year if they deal Walker/Batum to Cleveland and dont get another PG in the draft.

2019 core could look something like

Trae Young or Collin Sexton (brooklyn pick) / Brogdon
Lamb / Bacon / Shumpert / JR Smith
Jabari / MKG / Traveon
Jaren Jackson (Char pick) / Frank / Marvin
Zeller / Hernangomez / Henson / Thompson

and form a roster that would be younger, cheaper and arguably even better than the current Hornets iteration.

Random guess for what the Hornets might do... Cody for Big Al's contract ($4 million guaranteed next season) and a protected 1st.

They initially try to trade Dwight, but no one bites and Cody allows them to net some value in return instead of us attaching value to shed salary. Hernangomez becomes our super cheap backup.

Cody not only goes back to his hometown but reunites with his old teammate Victor Oladipo. Not saying I'd do it. Just trying to predict what our FO might do. Feels like something is there with Indy. We're looking to save, they're looking to spend. Maybe Marvin & MCW for Al and Joseph?

Return to Charlotte Hornets
