How many clutch points do the $120-million dollar man got? Serious question.

Re: Leap Year - The Kemba Walker Thread III
Kemba wants to go to the playoffs. What he said is basically the nicest way of saying 'trade me' because it isn't happening here if it didn't happen this year.
Keeping Kemba around is only going to drag out our treadmill for years to come. Just bite the bullet on Batum, trade Kemba this offseason, and tank for 1-2 years. I call it 'tank', but really it's just about going with the outcome that is the best situation for future success.
Signing Kemba to a max contract is going to keep us at max cap until Batum gets off the books. At best, we'll be a first round exit in the playoffs.
Trading Kemba and rebuilding while Batum's contract runs out is going to put us in the position to actually compete when the Warriors/Cavs run out of ammo.
As to his clutch points, big difference between hitting clutch shots against teams trying to lose and teams trying to win.

The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Walker is building his dream house in Charlotte.
“Hopefully, I’ll be here for a long time.”
The Hornets will hire a new general manager this offseason and the most critical and immediate decision will be what to do with Walker.
“Whenever we get a new GM, we’ll see what direction he wants to go,” Walker said, “and I’ll make the best decision for me.”

Sounds like Kemba is open to leaving. He’s tired of how things are being ran.
Maybe he should try not giving Clifford a glowing review in his exit interview.

Sit him the rest of the games. Start Monk at PG with Stone or whomever as the backup.

Go to the Spurs. Join Kawhi, Aldridge and pop and go play in a few western conference finals. We do not deserve you.
Tony Parker Era is coming to an end and Kawhi and Aldridge are not ball dominant. There is not a better fit for Kemba.
Then we can start the 5 year process of tanking and praying for a game changing player like the 6ers have. Oh wait we just went through 7 years of absolute dumpster fire basketball and we still have nothing to show for it. I honestly don't see how this franchise isn't moved to Seattle sooner or later. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for us.

I've thought this too, but the team makes money. It's not hemorrhaging money, and attendance isn't horrible. It would require some positive PR to spin a rebuild, but at the same time I've come around to the fact that our lovable lineup struggles to avoid losing 50 games nearly every year. What's losing 58-60 games really going to do? It's 12-14 more losses and a higher draft pick.

Re: Leap Year - The Kemba Walker Thread III
Meh, I gotta say I'm not really as down on the roster as everyone else.
The difference between 10th and 4th in the East is not really that huge. One competent backup PG (maybe Monk next year?), a decent starting SG (or Batum not totally sucking) and a 3&D wing for the bench or to start over MKG puts this team squarely in the 45-50 win range imo. That's three pieces, none of them particularly impossible to find.
Obviously that team's absolute best-case ceiling is conference finals beat down at the hands of Lebron, but I do think that will be the direction Kupchak and MJ will pursue this summer. I say try to be competitive for 2018/2019, and if it doesn't work then blow it up at the trade deadline.
I'd much rather give it another go with a better coach and our lottery pick (or a player we acquire using the pick + veteran) just to see what happens. We owe it to Kemba to not be entirely defeatist, if we crater again the first half of next year he can still bring back the exact same value (possibly better if he becomes 3x all-star) and we'll send him to a contender.

If you give up your first this year, I'd be interested.
I'd also be interested in zeller and your first for khris. Would that Work? I think if you're trying to hang onto kemba, khris could be a really good second option next to him.

my answer to your initial question is the same as yours- it's proably a lottery pick away from being reasonable.

It's interesting you feel Middleton could fetch a useful rotation player + pick 10. I would think pick 10 or 11 alone is fair value for Middleton. To make the salaries work, I'd be willing to attach the pick to MKG or Marvin Williams. That's pick 10 or 11 for Middleton. Can another team beat that? It's hard to imagine.
