yup... I don't think I need to tell anyone I'm firmly on the Monk train, but the dude is still 23 and will be till the middle of next year. He's the age now as Devonte' was three years ago when he was drafted. It would make no sense to spend all those years developing him for someone else.

Sucks he doesn't have one more year left on his contract. He's taken a step forward each of the last two seasons, kinda want to see what he does in the next year. Even in a weird covid/injury season he still had his best season posting 20 pts and 3.6 asts per 36 on 43/41/82 and those numbers probably would have been even better in a normal, healthy year

Plus with Terry's free agency looming, it would be nice insurance in case we lose him. I think he could give us similar production to Terry if you put him in that same role full time

But it's interesting that with Monk you're still pretty much paying for potential. Weird.

I'm also in favor of Monk over Graham. Sadly, it may come to a choice between Monk and a priority free agent. If the Hornets draft a guard (like Moses), the path forward becomes quite clear.

The danger of drafting 19 year olds is that they are still developing when that first contract expires. Unless you've hit the jackpot with a pick you are forced to pay for what you hope they will become instead of what they may actually be. Devonte is basically what he will always be so you've got to decide if thats more valuable than what Monk could become, coupled with the likelihood of that ever happening.

So he's gonna sign the RFA tender, play that out, and then be an unrestricted free agent next year? I'd be cool with that.

No, if I am not mistaken, the tweet means that no RFA offer was or will be tended. At 5:01 tomorrow, Sunday, he will be an unrestricted free agent. Look at the responses from fans of the Mavs, Heat, Knicks, 76ers, Lakers. The Raptors fans especially want him to come.

As LofJ points out, the Hornets cannot afford Monk's cap hold.

I have no problem at all with him leaving. He is too short to be a starting SG, is a streaky shooter and has loose handles. Sure, he can occasionally have 3 good games in a row but he has never been a consistent, hard working player. I would rather develop Bouknight then overpay an undersized question mark.

It was a long shot that he'd be back. His cap hold is that prohibitive.

Monk could find a good but not great market because of the lack of teams with cap space and a glut of new, cheap draftees at his position. If I'm Monk, I find the best situation and take a short-term, prove-it deal. There should be a better cap situation for the entire league next summer. The Hornets might also be able to bring him back on a reasonable deal or find a sign-and-trade partner.

I don't think Charlotte's done with Monk just yet.

Goodbye Monk, I hope you do well on your next team (except when you're playing the Hornets).

Had some good moments and some horrible ones. Wish him the best.

Better hope Bouknight pans out. I think it’s a mistake to go with DG over Monk considering Devonte is truly ineffective in the paint and Monk has a wide arrange of abilities beyond three and in the paint.

Monk has given us zero reason to extend the QO.

It would have been nice to have him on a short 2 year "show me" contract - although I guess he's had 4 years to "show us" and the front office doesn't feel he has shown enough.

Very interested to see what sort of contract and role he gets on the open market.

Right answer was to move on from both. Depending on any offers Graham gets, that still might be the case

Hate to say bye to Malik. Love him so much and he is a torch off the bench. Finally getting his footing in the league and now another team will benefit. I think he should go to the Lakers, they are so thin right now that he could be a big part of their offense off the bench.

If he wouldn't take his QO, I get it. If he would and we pulled it just to move on, I don't.

Based on his end of season interview, seems like it was more than likely the former.
