The problem here is that the Kings would rather trade for Porter instead of taking Batum. And they have decent expiring contracts/assets for this.
Ideally, Porter is traded to some LA team (Clippers for Gallinari would make sense imo), and once it's done you see what's left to get from Washington, including Beal.

I doubt something is reachable for the Hornets, they are just playing their role and the wiz are probably happy to have someone starting a bidding war.

Lots of things might happen in next free agencies (especially if the mess with contract extensions with the warriors dont stop) and Kupchak should be wise not to commit too much on couple players unless they have reports that Kemba is unhappy and wants out (which would surprise everyone).

I'd honestly prefer Porter to Beal if I'm gauging their trade values correctly. Beal is probably the more talented player and fits what we need better, but I think he'll cost significantly more.

I also think Porter has a little bit of breakout potential left. Hes put up great numbers on super limited usage because Wall and Beal are both really ball dominant (especially Wall). They say on the Washington board that he steps up and looks even better when Wall/Beal are out and he gets more usage. I don't think he'll ever be the offensive talent that Beal is, but I could see him putting up an efficient 16-18pp with 3-4apg.

I'm fairly confident Lamb is going to play better as the year progresses as long as he stays healthy. If we could get 30-35ppg from Lamb + Porter (+12ppg from Monk) we could be a top 5 offense. We are already 8th in ppg. Our defense is actually the bigger issue overall and Porters D might get is in the top 12-14 range defensively. Our 4th quarter scoring issues might not be solved by Porter, but it would be better than with Batum and it wouldn't matter as much if we could actually get stops down the stretch.

I could see them doing a deal centered around Batum + picks if they continue to slide and blow it up.

I would offer Batum + Bacon + 2019 2nd (most favorable) + 2020 2nd (CLE)
or Batum + Frank + 2019 1st (top 12 protection) + 2020 2nd (BKN/NY)

That was my preference as well. Getting Porter would be a better upgrade than Beal over Lamb. Bacon is playing well and is somebody they would have interest in as well. He is playing similar to how Willy was in NY and look at him now. That offer should work.

Philadelphia doesn't have the ability to salary match a trade for Beal without including Fultz, who seems to have a screw loose and likely has very little trade value. Beal also makes no sense from a roster construction standpoint unless they plan to do Reddick dirty. I also doubt Boston wants to add any players that need shots at the moment.

Toronto is the only one of the three that I could see putting together an offer that could rival or beat ours.

Chandler/Muscala/Zhaire works in the trade machine. Chandler/Fultz/Zhaire/2019 Philly 1st/2021 Heat 1st is a decent offer.

I don’t think Toronto will go all in. If they do I agree with you.

I really don’t want Porter unless it’s for a bad contract. He’s not worth his contract and has a trade kicker. The Nets really wanted him bad. Doesn’t most his money have to be paid up front before the season? He has a bunch of stupid things like that in his contract. Ernie was dumb for matching that.

I dont know if Philly should offer that much. Chandler + Zhaire + two 1sts is a lot. Thats more value than they gave for Butler.

As someone not familiar enough with Porter since his draft hype year, can someone give me a quick rundown on how he's a player that will boost this team's success with Kemba.

Not trying to sound like an ass, but I see a player that doesn't seem like much of an upgrade over MKG...and for a lot more money. Porter is older than MKG and Beal, avg under 11ppg, and has a terrible contract.

I'm all for adding talent to help take this team to the next level, so if Porter can help us...I'm all for it. I do also agree that if we land Beal, we are still a frontcourt player away from being a beast. On the surface, I just don't see how Porter moves the needle for this team.

Over the past two years he averaged 14/6/2 on 50/44/83 shooting splits with elite defense. He was 13th in the league in RPM last year and 24th the year before. His advanced stats have been all around fantastic.

He hasn't played well this year, but its a small sample size and Washington has been a dumpster fire. He pretty similar to 25 year old Batum, but with elite defense + outside shooting and without the motor/focus issues.

I'm really not plugged into what is going on in DC, but my assumption is that Porter felt like he was ready to take more of a leading role given his steady growth over the two seasons prior to this one ... and that this didn't go down well with Wall & Beal.

Basketball Reference lists the following guys as similar to Porter: David West, Paul George, Danny Manning, & Glenn Rice, among others. Basically he shoots 3s, rebounds well, gets steals, and defends well. His contract is huge, but he's young and seems like he's ready for a bigger role offensively.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Thanks Gents for the info on Porter. This sounds like something we are in dire need of...especially with Lamb and Monk here already.

My only issue would be if this is enough of a weapon to give Kemba along with Lamb/Monk. A 25-year old high-motor Batum with elite defense and outside shooting is exactly what we need here. Though I'd still prefer Beal, Porter sounds like what we hoped MKG would have been....but can actually fulfill those expectations.

I would assume the package to get him would be less than Beal's... thoughts on what it would take to bring Porter in?

Porter is not an all-star. You pair Kemba with Beal and court a max player. Nobody is signing here to play with Porter. Also Porter plays Batum's position and reality check here. Nobody is taking Batum. Maybe I should repeat that. Nobody is taking Batum. I'd be highly disappointed if Kupchak thinks Porter is enough to seal the deal with Kemba. The league would take notice if Beal joins Kemba. Let's have some pride and stop settling for half-ass Cho moves.

Just sick of the dismissive bullcrap because fans feel afraid to part with real assets, making excuses like oh he's not much of an upgrade. The whole point isn't the margin on the upgrade it's about who can punish a team for blitzing Kemba. You want Porter to do that or Beal? It's not even close. We don't have nice things because everyone praised Cho for incremental moves. He never went bold and put up a real asset while MKG had value and when Frank had value. The one time he did sack up he cut bait on Vonleh. And what happened? Everyone freaked out. At least we got Biz back. People were dying to stroke him off again. Biz is great to have. Beal? Meh. Give me more milqtoast.

What fans don't want is this:

Kemba
Beal
BATUM (nobody is taking Batum)
BRIDGES (yes this is his spot and MKG will not be retained)

Why? No MKG. So this idea that we can move Batum and pass on Beal goes back to MKG fans not wanting Cho to sell MKG while he was still a commodity. The irony is Porter plays MKG's position and when that pundit (name escapes me) floated the rumor that Cho was shopping MKG and interested in trading up for Porter, some fans threatened to renounce their fanhood over MKG. Same fans wanted SGA over Miles Bridges. Didnt want the competition.

Well tough ****. Get Beal here. Batum is also here. So is Bridges. MKG may have to go in the deal for Beal. Get over it.

I remember when that smartass fan from another team came in here and dogpiled on me when I was arguing we should have drafted Beal. Imagine if the Wiz took MKG straight up for Beal. It would never happen. As it stands, we'd be lucky to lose MKG + Monk + a 1st. You can thank Cho for the premium.

Now I feel better. I got out some angst. Onto red wine, green olives, local cheddar and a non-GMO chocolate bar with my Brother, his new wife (meeting her for the first time) and her twin sister.

Batum and an unprotected 2019 first (yeah I said it) for Beal. Time for Kupchak. to earn his GM pay.

It annoys me that fans of other teams think all of our players outside of Kemba (and Miles) are garbage.

No, we don't have another all-star level offensive talent on the roster, but we have several guys that can play and would help a lot of teams. Lamb, Bacon, MKG, Monk, Willy, and Zeller all have value. Heck, to a dysfunctional team like the Wizards even Marvin Williams might have some value.

And then we have fanbases of other teams like the Sixers who are arrogant enough to think that Fultz has any value at all. They think that Fultz and the raw rookie they drafted that has yet to play in Zhaire Smith are somehow enough to land a player like Beal. I don't buy it, we could put together a better offer than the Sixers. They have the Miami pick and Reddick, neither of which they will trade because the summer after this one they will have to pay Simmons. They can't afford 4 max contract players.
