If I’m the Rockets I think I could get a better package for Westbrook from Knicks or Bulls.

They just seem to have other bigger contract guys who don’t really fit in.

Bulls Lavine and Porter for Russ

Bulls are rebuilding, don’t feel like either of those players are worth contracts. Easier for Rockets to flip those guys.

Knicks Randle, Ellington, French Frank for Russ

Randle would give them another Iso player next to Harden. Ellington fits their system and French Frank gets a reset and his defense might look good next to Harden.

Pretty sure Houston can't trade any more 1st round picks.

I wouldn't trade Zeller + Batum for Westbrook without multiple 1sts attached. Hes a negative asset and bad player + bad leader. He was an absolute disaster in the playoffs that sabotaged any chance Houston had of beating LA and Dantoni honestly should have benched him. He would technically make this team a bit better because we're a bad/rebuilding team with no true offensive engine, but his contract is atrocious and hes one of the least reliable and most volatile players in the league that still technically counts as an offensive engine. Hes a low IQ ball hog who would stunt the development of the young players on this team and hollow out any chance of this team building something in the future.

Trading for Westbrook would be extremely similar to signing Big Al during our last rebuild. Its extremely short sighted and a typical MJ short cut move that would very likely backfire.

Is there any doubt that the two camps are MJ/Polk wanting to trade for Westbrook and Mitch/actual basketball people being against it?

We didn’t want to resign Kemba for 30 million. Have a hard time we want Russ at 40 million

The only way I'd consider Westbrook is if Houston was giving us assets to take him on. This trade needs to be seen as taking on dead money(A LOT OF IT), not taking on a superstar. Problem is, Houston doesn't have any assets to give. The fact that we are even mentioned as interested scares me to death. They better have a 3rd team somewhere who is going to give us a couple 1sts.

Now, a player I would look at it would be Aaron Gordon. The guy is young, 2 years left on his contract, and has potential to get better.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Magic offering 15 and Gordon to move up. Not nearly enough for 3, but found it interesting

I don't want Russ or Gordon. Both guys are over paid. No need to take on Russ to sell tickets this season when you can't sell tickets. They should just eliminate as much salary going forward as possible, develop the young core without "stars" another year and get ready for 2022 with loads of cash to spend and a nice talented team to add to. Graham, Miles, PJ, the Martins, Jalen + 2 incoming high draft picks and a couple of get lucky second rounders with a max spot and room to resign our guys. Yeah, that's what I want to see!

Suns should see if 10 is high enough for that package. They need a 4 bad.

A like a three teamer where Minnesota trades #17 and filler for Gordon, and Orlando packages #15+#17+filler to get up as high as they can. I could see any of Washington (#9), New York (#8), Detroit (#7) going for that.

I've gone back and forth regarding the whole Westbrook thing. At the end of the day, yes, it would be fun to get him, but long term it is pretty disastrous. The right move is to keep the rebuild going, especially during the pandemic where it's going to be hard for everyone to sell tickets anyway. Also, having Westbrook on the team would very likely stunt the growth of our young core, and we're pretty capped as far as how far we could go in the playoffs, as the East has gotten significantly better in the last few years IMO. Let's play the long game here, and things will look really good in 1-2 years.
