Re: The Raymond Felton Contract/Free Agent Thread
Plenty of interesting names, including Nate Robinson. He was not impressive in Boston (wasn't playing much, but still) but I would not be surprised if he ends up with a bigger contract than Felton.
Ridnour, Tinsley, Pargo, Duhon, Boykins, and House. If I were making the decisions and had to find a PG to replace Felton, I would pick one of those players. Barea is going to get picked up and the bidding for Lowry and Bynum may get high. I'd love to see Telfair here as a project but there's no way that he turns down his option.

I totally disagree.
Anything we do or offer Felts should have nothing to do with any other team. Our FO needs to put a price tag on him that they deem fair and stick with it regardless of what other teams might offer or say they are going to offer him.
If they want to over pay for him, power to them. Better them than us.

This is in part why I think the FO has no intention of bringing him back. I'm sure they might like to have him back, but they know he wont be back and knew that 12 months ago because they will only pay him what they think is fair, not what his camp claims his value to be.
I think the Felton camp make their bed 12 months ago when the clowns asked for what ever crazy amount they asked for then (rumored to be some where between 7-10 million per year). The FO were no way prepared to pay that then and considering Felton is coming off his best 3/4's of his 5 year career (excluding being horrible in the playoffs) it's safe to assume his camp will be asking for more this summer.
I think that is why they had discussions about TJ Ford again at the trade deadline. They knew that Felton wouldn't be back next season and needed someone to take his place as our starting PG.
I also think it's why MJ and now LB have spent the past month or two positioning for the reality that he is not coming back by saying things like "there will be decisions made that will not be basketball related and that we may not like". They know that letting Felton walk, a UNC poster child, is going to rub some fans the wrong way. After building some momentum in the community since MJ took over the last thing they want is to upset the fans by giving them flashbacks of Shinn's tight-waddedness when it came to signing Zo and/or LJ - especially if the person they let walk is one of their own.
I really can't see him coming back and they are trying to minimize the impact and cushion the blow this might have on the casual fan who looks for reasons not to love the team.

I was talking to a friend about this in regard to LBJ last night. We agreed that under no circumstances could the Cavs entertain a S&T involving LeBron-- you have to offer him the max or let him go to whatever other team he wants. You run the risk of getting nothing for a fantastic player, but you make him the villain that way instead of having your fan base alienated over something you have little control over. I think we do the same thing with Felton. Offer him what he thinks he's worth and if he doesn't want it then he needs to be prepared to deal with the backlash. I guess we run the risk of being called tightwads where the Cavs can actually offer LeBron the largest amount of money, but I think this is still a comparable situation.

BigSlam, just got back from suspension. Didn't want to start a new thread just for this, but I apologize. It really was just a joke, and I don't necessarily agree (probably because I'm the one who was suspended) but I am sorry for the crude comments.

No problem - no harm no foul. Thanks for dropping by and for apologizing. I'll make sure the brass knows. Very impressive that you would come back and apologize. Very.

Re: The Raymond Felton Contract/Free Agent Thread
I dunno, historically in these situations (well really Wallace/Okafor) they get to the UFA part and wait for the rest of the league to set the price. They've always matched it and with Wallace they got a good deal - with Okafor they over paid and got shafted. Hopefully whatever they decide on is the best for our FA. Looking at the list of FA's who will actually hit the market, Felton is the best PG with maybe the next best guy being Luke Ridnour or Nate, both backups on good teams.
Our best option would be starting DJ in that case unless we're able to make a deal for TJ Ford. Dealing for Ford would allow us to add to the pile of money we'd be opening up the summer of 2011.

Re: The Raymond Felton Contract/Free Agent Thread
I'd rather keep Larry Hughes as the point before trading for Ford, especially after the details of the rumored trade at the deadline.
Eddie House would be great for this team. Shoots the three, played here in the past, solid leadership. Should be able to sign him for 3-4 million. Cheaper than Ford and as effective, if not better.
I'll be very sad if Felton leaves but he's not even worth the extension he was offered last year. There will be some upset UNC/Bobcats fans but that's the business. Make them happy again by bringing in Rashad McCants or resigning Sean McMay.

Re: The Raymond Felton Contract/Free Agent Thread
Sign Steve Blake for 2-3 million- 6'3'' decent defensive PG with a solid 3 point stroke and would be fine coming off the bench, not clamoring to start. He has limitations in breaking down a defense, but in terms of guys out there, i doubt we'd have to overpay for him, and doubt there would be much demand for him.

If Felts wants a crazy contract in both length and amount I wouldn't have any problem working a S&T with the Pacers for Ford. Sure Ford has a lot of money coming his way next season, but he is off the books after that combining with Nazzy and TC to create a serious amount of cap room for us to play with.
If we could work Hibbert into the S&T I would be giddy.

Hibbert is 8 feet tall and grabs 5 rebounds per game as a starter.

That's kinda sad. He did seem more promising though when we last saw them. He'd fit right in with our Frankencenter foul machine.

I'm not a huge TJ Ford fan, but he'd be stable at the PG spot for one season and like you said - give us that nice fat contract coming off the books at the same time as Nazzy and Tyson.
I think our best opportunity is to find a way to become a player in the '11 FA class.

I think you'll find he is offically listed as 9 feet 15 inches tall.
Sure he grabs 6 boards a game (5.7 actually!) but does so in only 25mpg.
He is a massive lump of a man who is still very young with a very high BBIQ who can defend and score in the post.
Playing Hibbert at the 5, T2 at the 4 and Crash at the 3 would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet IMO.

Exactly. Don't get me wrong - I far from think that TJ is the be all and end all but as a one year stop gap who is also a juicy expiring I'd be down for sure.

Pretty much my thinking too. Hopefully Crash will have some juice left in the tank by then and one of DJ, Hendo, UPS, T2 or Lexy would have surprised us as well.
Then with one good addition via FA or trade in the summer of '11 we can seriously contend.

Re: The Raymond Felton Contract/Free Agent Thread
FTR and slightly OT:
Based on his sophmore year Hibbert was projected to average 17.0pts, 8.4 boards, 2.4 assists, 2.4 blocks, .6 steals with 48.7% and 72.0% shooting in 36mpg.
Those numbers compare very well, if not better, to guys like Kaman, Jefferson, Okafor, Noah and Lopez last season!
The 5+ fouls would have to be worked on, but you catch my drift!.
