Great trade....acquiring young talent for basically nothing. 2nd rounders are whatever to me with the way this team has drafted.

I'm excited to see what Stephen and Paul can do with him.

Mullens is freak.... he is big and he is very athletic

he can run the floor well and finish around the basket well

problem is, his bball IQ id terrible and he plays more like a SF than a C

he'll hang out around the perimeter (which he has a solid jumper), but wont get down and dirty in the paint

good gamble for a 2nd round pick.... he's still a 7 footer with good athletic ability... but he needs to get tougher and play in the paint

Mullens > Fesenko

Mullens has yet to show that he's anything other than a big stiff.

That said, he's 22 yo, has legit center size, has a good pedigree and as you mention, only cost us a second round pick.

I would have gone for Fesenko or a Kosta Koufas (both of whom I think are far more talented offensively) but for a 2013 second rounder, I'm fine with this and anxious to see what Mullens can do.

If he shows some promise, we can pick up his option and keep him around next year. If not, we'll show him the door and be no worse for having test driven him.

+1

Not my preferred route but a reasonable gamble on a young player with legit size. I think they see him as a developmental player to groom as a reserve behind Bismack, who thankfully is now able to sign. Exciting to see how these young guys play out...
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

The thing I love about Silas is that he insists on always utilizing his bigmen in the post, sometimes yielding good results and really helping a big man's confidence and offensive game (Kwame, Magloire) and sometimes to comic effect (Diop).

Jamal Magloire was not exactly an offensive threat his rookie year and Charlotte but Silas really forced the issue in feeding him.

This should be interesting because Silas will see to it that Mullens gets some touches. Hopefully Mullen's at least has a basic jump hook in his arsenal

The prison games make for a good ESPN segment but he really should have been spending the time working on his post game with a big man's coach instead of playing pick up ball with convicts half a foot shorter.

In the future Mullins could be a good alternative to Bismack off the bench. Bismack represents a lot of what Mullins doesn't and Mullins represents a lot of what Bismack doesn't. Now i'm not prepared yet to say he will ever even be a rotation player, but he has that potential. Would be nice to take Bismack out and put in a 7 footer who can make a perimeter shot.

Solid trade. We traded away a 2nd round pick for a center that is still very young and has already been in the league for 2 years.

sounds like mullens should have gone out to oakland and ran games in those max security gang infested prisons instead of that soft ass prison for midgets who cheated on their taxes. maybe then he would grow a pair of balls and learn to bang down low like a man.

great trade. BJ is still young and a raw talent. now we only have to bring back LB as an assistant to teach him a couple of things

Yeah he can move around pretty well for a guy of his size. It's true.

I really don't expect him to be better than a third string guy on a meh team, though.

I actually saw the prison video of Mullens playing and the talent he played against was pretty legit. It was an official league with officials and everything a few of the guys he played agaisnt were college ballers before. I mean nothing crazy, but I am sure it was better then playing against his 14 year old cousins outside.

I think Mullens is better then Ely and Najera. So I say we did pretty good.

I'm glad we traded for him. Reading your commentary this season will make the day a little better.

Why wouldn't he?

Bismack, Diop, Ely, Mullens
Diaw, White, Thomas, Najera
Mags, Williams, UPS
Henderson, Carroll
DJ, Kemba

That's 15. Considering Najera is out for a long time, I think there's a better chance of him being waived if we sign a guard or bring Cunningham back.

Cho may have a trade in the works too. We don't know.

I like this move. It's more likely that BJ works out and fills a glaring roster hole than whoever we would've drafted in the 2nd round.

No one thought to include MJ when they were breaking down all of the _J initials?

Pretty sure this makes a Tyrus for OJ trade just about 100%

I hear he's pretty self conscious about that

Don't know much about Mullens but I like the trade.
Low cost trade for youth and potential, perfect for our situation.
