I noticed that. I really think it might be something about a name change. I really do.

I hope but I really really don't want to be that guy and it be something as simple as about signing Pargo for the rest of the season.

Maybe Ben Gordon agreed to opt out of his final year so that we could offer him a max extension?

monday night game vs the wizards on the backstretch of a horrible season where there will probably be less than 10k people watching on television and 5k in the arena. Can't think of a better time to announce....................half off popcorn for the rest of the season

Uncle Steve and the Dellestrator walked right by me before the game and I won't lie and try to be all tough I will admit I was a little starstruck. It is like these guys are a part of the family.

Zach likes Uncle Steve's usage of far-away places for three point shots, lol.

4. "From Downtown Far-Away Place X"

Kyle Lowry (I think) drained a long 3-pointer last week, and the Drakes' play-by-play guy (Matt Devlin), impressed at the length of the shot, exclaimed, "Lowry, from all the way in Mississauga!" And damn you, Matt Devlin, if I didn't crack a smile. I'm a sucker for that general trope: "He shot that all the way from Faraway Town X!" Or, in a recent Bobcats home game: "He shot that from South Carolina, I think!"

This expression has another close cousin in hoops talk: "His range starts when he enters the parking lot!"

They're clichés, but I chuckle every time. If I ever get on TV and some host asks me to discuss a killer long-range shooter, you better believe I'm going to say his range starts the moment he enters the gym.

this seems random. for all his mispronunciations and mistakes due to his age, he has a nice chemistry with Dell and the broadcasts are enjoyable.

question to the guys who watched the Hornets in the 90s - he didn't confuse player names so much back then, did he?

Nice find Lamar. Don't love that, I think he's a lot better than a lot of other team broadcasters. I don't think he's very well suited for radio either if they want him to be the play by play guy.

Yes, I also liked his rapport with Dell.

Does this seem like a demotion to you, guys?

Didn't realize that he was doing play by play radio before. Seems odd given his pace on TV broadcasts, seems like he'd fall behind on the radio, but sounds like he definitely has the experience.

Anyone think Steph might be moving to Steve's TV role?

I think Steph will stay as the sideline reporter, I not sure she or Dell would be good at play-by-play they're both analysts to me.

If the Hornets want to boost TV ratings, let's have MJ handle TV announcer duties for a couple games.

Not a big fan of them "bumping" him from TV. He messes up every now and then, but it's not so bad that he should be demoted -- it's sort of endearing in a way, especially for a guy that has had the history he has with Charlotte. I much prefer Martin over a more "refined" broadcaster like Matt Devlin like we used to have, especially when it comes to local broadcasts. Martin was very good in his position, with the right mix of personality/broadcast ability and a slight homerism, and he and Curry made a great duo. Someone like Devlin, he used to seem to have no passion for the team, and took a very calculated and professional approach that is perfect for TNT or ESPN, but not for a local broadcaster. You can tell by the way that he calls the game that Martin definitely cares about the team.

Martin has been in the business for awhile, so I'm hoping that it was maybe a decision he chose to cut back some, or something like that. I'd hope that we didn't really just demote him. On a side note, I haven't listened to who does our radio broadcasts for awhile, but I thought the guy that used to do them (I forget his name) was actually quite good. Looking it up, it looks like the radio guy was Scott Lauer, and it looks like he was let go recently as well (see http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nba/charlotte-hornets/article19152615.html).

I heard ratings were up, so maybe they got complaints from new viewers or something. I hope the team isn't going overboard here, because I don't really see a problem with the broadcasting team that we've had -- in fact, I would say that they have been pretty damn good.

It seems like he wanted to go back to radio according to his quotes. It makes sense if that's the case since they forced Lauer, who was very very good, out. Id like to see Lauer on with Dell but that isn't happening
