Condition of the amnesty claim: Mavericks have paid most of his salary since we claimed him but we're on the hook for the last year if he's still on the roster at a certain date (don't remember exactly when, but it's sometime the preseason before).

But if we waive him prior to then, then no cap hit at all. Could be an interesting trade chip for a team looking to move a big contact, since his is unguaranteed and can simply waive him for cap relief.

Any idea when this trade is most likely to occur?

I mean I'm no insider, but I looked up the date and it's 8/1/15 he has to be waived by. Draft is usually late-June early-July so we could feasibly move him for another $10m + contract around then. The receiving team could then cut him for cap relief.

We are going to waste it and just cut him for nothing

I'll update this tomorrow when we figure out whether or not we're acquiring Gee (we'd probably waive him anyway), but for now I've got us right at $19.5 million in cap space.

This is based on the estimated $63.2 million cap, and takes into account the contracts of Vonleh and Hairston should they make 120% of the rookie scale (perhaps we play hardball with Hairston though). Ten players under contract, 7 of them on rookie deals.

What are we at if we waive Gee, still 19.5?

I didn't include Gee, if we keep him the cap space would fall to $16.5 million. I'm assuming that he'll be waived and thus freeing up another $3 million to reach $19.5 million.

Wow, 19.5 and we can still maybe dump Henderson and/or Neal hopefully.

I want to sign Lance Stephenson and make a run at Chandler Parsons.

If we are trying to free up so many cap space it´s because Jordan believes that we could make a run at one of the big names, I suppose...

Were about to offer Hayward a ridiculous amount of money. I can feel it. Either him or Stephenson.

My plan for Free Agency.
1. Reach out to LeBron or Melo, neither will sign, but at least we said we tried.
2. Offer Gordon Hayward a lot of money. (Jazz take Hendo in SnT)
3. If he goes back to Utah, shift focus to signing Stephenson to a long term deal.
4. If all else fails, sign Luol Deng to a hefty deal, but keep it to 1 or 2 years.

Smaller moves...
1. Overpay for Grievas, he fits too well. Can run a team, shoot threes, and play next to Kemba. and Fans will know him from ACC days.
2. Sign Vince Carter as a scorer/shooter behind MKG.
3. Sign Jan Vesely as an energy guy off the bench.
4. Resign Pargo and Tolliver for familiarity

Kemba- Grievas- Pargo
Hayward- Neal- Hairston
MKG- Carter- MKG
Vonleh-Zeller- Vesely
Big Al- Biz- Vet Min

Then again hindsight, just looking at who is available in free agency. I would not mind helping facilitate a trade for Houston where we land Lin. He would be a great backup point guard for us who can score off the bench and even play next to Kemba some.

It would be great if we somehow convinced them to give us Parsons as well, but that may be a bit much haha. However, I would be interested in Lin.

Actually never mind Lin gets paid stupid money at over 14 million this year. Forget all this nonsense lol.

Assuming the worst in that we can't dump Henderson, we can at least dump Gary Neal to push our cap space up to 22 million. It's an intriguing figure because it allows flexibility in the free agent plan. We can pursue one superstar, 2 emerging stars or 1 emerging star and 2-3 solid bench players. I would not make McRoberts a priority just yet. I don't think the upgrade at PF with Vonleh and Cody already there provides me with enough incentive to tie up 5 million when there are more pressing needs.

Targets:

Lance Stephenson
Gordon Hayward
Chandler Parsons
Shaun Livingston

It would be pretty awesome if we could land LeBron after doing draft day deals with Cleveland and Miami.

I guess we could, but it will be close. Hayward could get 12+ yearly.
