Watch out for Vogati though

he loves reading Richard Feynman's famous physics lectures so he's definitely a threat

I heard Vogati wet his bed as recently as last October. He'll never last under the pressure.

Early favorite for me has to be Jairam Jagadeesh Hathwar

Image

Everybody knows the Corning Rotary Club in NY is the mecca for linguistics. He cut his teeth at the Corning Court (also known as the Rucker Park of Spelling) and has dominated for years. Coach T over at Corning knows what it takes to prepare his guys for the next level and Jairam is definitely 1st pick material.

Spelling runs in his blood too. Jairam's brother Sriram (naturally) competed 5 times! Was 3rd in '13 and co-champ in '14. Jairam already tried out last year and came in 22nd at the tender age of 12. Ever since then, he's been putting in two-a-days with his personal trainer. I hear he's even cut back on the preteen "bathroom breaks" in order to keep his edge. and he's definitely ready for Hathwar

Just look at the quiet confidence in that smile. It's like he's saying "**** you nerds, this is mine".

Team Jairam all day

Have you guys seen the Jason Bateman movie "Bad words"?

It's amazing.

That pick is straight fire. My scouts have been talking about this kid for years. I just hope the hype doesn't get to his head.

Have you seen his highlight tape? Straight up unreal. This kid just flat out embarrasses fools.

However, I am hearing rumblings about Mitchell A. Robson

Image

Rumors are his parents held him back a year (he's 14) so he could gain another year of development, and now that he's grown into his frame, he's starting to shoot up scout's boards. He wasn't even ranked last year but now is in the top 5 at his position.

He is very interested in many fields of science, such as quantum mechanics, molecular biology and electrical engineering, and he also has experience in seven programming languages. An avid mathlete, he won his school-wide AMC 8 and Mathcounts competitions.

The advanced metrics love this guy. He's a 7-tool speller. But lets be honest does he really have to compete in the Mathcounts competitions over the summer? You have to allow your body time to heal.

Obviously there is a tense rivalry between my girl Smri and her arch nemesis Snehaa Ganesh Kumar (#16).

The trash talking that happens in the girls bathroom backstage at a spelling bee is the stuff of legends.

I feel sorry for whoever gets stuck with ol' LemonTang

Smri and Snehaa don't even bother trying to trash talk LT. "She doesn't even know how to count in binary" - just sayin'.

I just don't think she's got the "it" factor.

The punishment in this competition for everyone that loses is you should have to use the word that your speller missed in every post you make for the next week. And it has to be used correctly. Unless anyone has a better idea

Yeah that makes more sense. Every post could get out of hand especially considering some of these words. Gentleman's rule is you just don't mail it in. put some effort into it

Flip, are you holding off on picking your speller til the last minute, waiting for that last bit of injury news from Mort? I heard your boy Vogati is being investigated for PEDs, performance enhancing diarrhea. Nothing prepares you for spelling like a cleaned out colon. He might be disqualified.

I got my eyes on a couple prospects. I'm going to wait a little while to make my pick. Still mulling my options. I can confirm it is going to be a wildcard though

Nothing would be more "wild" than picking LemonTang.
