Does him signing for that cheap mean we are going for another player? Or just leaving some room for flexibility during the season

He can guard bigger backcourt player when playing with Monk or just the more dangerous one. This will keep monk out of foul trouble and able to focus on offense. Also he can play with Kemba if need be and do the same. I like his versatility and at 2.7 million you're not finding a player with his skill set. Bargain

And also, I think this move gives more reason to believe that Monk will likely get quality bench minutes which I expected, but it seems like we never know with Cliff

We're almost exactly $2M below the tax with 14 players, of course it depends on which exception was used. Could have up to $6M left of MLE but they'd be going into the tax a bit.

we definitely have quite a bit of the MLE left. but we have no more room in the rotation. Zeller, Howard, Marvin, Frank, MKG, Lamb, Batum, Monk, Kemba was already a pretty solid 9-man rotation without a backup PG. Then MCW comes along, and we still have JOB, Weber, Graham, and Bacon comprising most of our third string. I could see another Hibbert-type deal for a third-string center, but that feels like a waste of money. We've still got most of the MLE left and nobody that would crack our top 9 would be coming here for the remainder of our MLE. I'm disappointed we didn't show any indication of offering a decent PG anything and made a beeline straight for MCW.

It also allows Monk to learn the point with no pressure. With three full time point guards on the roster. He can learn the point at whatever pace he needs to.

The Hornets want to develop Monk and Weber. I imagine MCW is only insurance nothing more. Also I wouldn't be surprised to see some type of two for one deal sometime between now and the mid-season trade deadline.

Seems like some pretty unwarranted assumptions you're making there.

I get this signing, but I don't like it. Hope MCW proves me wrong.

Don't think this bodes well for Weber.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Don't love it, but it's not a bad deal and he has more upside than a hobbled Sessions.

I don't get it.....

Fans: We NEED a back-up PG behind Kemba. He doesn't need to be a starter, but someone that can run the 2nd unit, play good defense and give us a solid 10-man rotation. It would also be nice if this FA point guard could also play beside Kemba in certain situations. We don't have a lot of dough, so let's maximize our money with what little we have, without breaking the bank.

Hornets: We signed MCW. A 6'6", 25 year old PG that specializes in defense and though not a starting caliber PG, he can still run a 2nd unit to a 1 yr $3M deal.

Come on.... it's not like we were going to sign a cream of the crop 1 in FA, so why not bring in a former ROY that has bounced around some pretty poorly constructed teams and is 3 years removed from averaging 15/7/6. His 3 pt game and FT shooting are pretty awful, but I'll hold judgment on this until I see him here with what surrounding cast mates we have.

Marks basically confirms that this was a partial MLE signing, also brings up a good point that if we use more than $2.4M of the remaining amount it'll trigger a hard cap at $125M.

It was a good solid move. Big enough to play with Kemba and Monk and plays solid defense. Actually runs a decent pick and roll if I remember correctly so should work well with Cody in the second unit. Could be a perfect fit is a mostly backup unit pairing with Monk, Frank, Lamb and Williams when we go a tad small.

Seems like a decent deal. I might be singing a different tune in January when Cliff is ignoring Monk so MCW can clank wide open jumpers, but it's not a big contract and he could be a useful bench player.

Monk will play a fair amount this year, no doubt about it. The MCW signing further solidifies it.

Short of a trade this is about as good as we could get folks. Everyone kept pushing about how MKG was young and could develop a quality jump shot in time. I'd bet on MCW doing that before MKG.

Battle of the hyphens.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Since I saw the rumours of MCW paying a visit to the Hornets FO I knew we would be signing him. Actually, I agree with what Soul Rebel said before, and being in a sort of a contract year will probably help us in extracting value from him. It worked with Lin and Courtney, so let's hope for the best of him.

I also think that we will end up trading one of Frank or Lamb in a "Cho-move" to make a slight improvement... But that won't happen until February, so let's wait for the rest of the Conference to melt down and enjoy (hope so) the ride.

We would've been better off keeping Sessions. Mark my words.
