Well crap so literally just a body. Clearly Mitch did not go to the Presti school of asset maximization.
That REALLY doesn't make sense... this takes up more than half their remaining capspace and the open roster spot. They're not even gonna *try* to sign a buyout big?

Yeah, I don't really get it. Maybe they felt out the market and no one is interested. Tough to land a difference maker buyout big when your pitch is "with you we might make it out of the play-in round".

It's time to throw Carey and Richards into the fire.

Think you're thinking of Chad Boilermaker. He's great, BTW.

(what an appropriate name for a guy shooting 21% from 3 this year - wanamaker. "They may not go in, but that doesn't keep him from trying - he's a real wanamaker")

Just a deep reserve pg with some playoff experience and a bit of cash for our troubles, ehh, it is what it is
At least we did not do something dumb and lose our picks....

Main PG goes down for rest of year

Brings in vet stopgap PG for little to nothing to help plug that hole

People baffled by move?

Is his last name really Boilermaker? That would be a chef's kiss with going to Purdue.

Ha, sorry. Nope - just me attempting to be clever and failing. But, boy oh boy, they'd love them some Chad Boilermaker in Purdue.

It's less "why would anyone be shocked that they filled a need?" and more "why this way?"

Like, if they're really not getting anything back, why help a team be a bigger player in the buyout market (presumably one they'll also be involved in)? Why use resources on a journeyman backup-at-best instead of just signing another JAG or G-Leaguer?

This also takes up that roster spot they were so diligently keeping open. Are they just completely giving up on the buyout market before it really commences? Are they gonna cut Biz or a Martin?

Just a weird move, flexibility-wise.

Should add: The Spurs sent over an old stash prospect for Chriss...

Wonder if Kulboka was involved.

A contending playoff team is trotting out a center combo of Zeller/Biyombo
Centers are available but contending team does not plug hole

Oh.... oh you thought the Hornets without Lamelo are a playoff contender? Yeah, I guess that's where we're a little split.

Besides... I wasn't aware that this deal would've precluded a separate deal for another big. Wild world we live in.

I don't really get the snark, we're clearly still in the playoff picture. Do you disagree?

We have to cut Wanamaker (or someone else) if we want a big. Why would trade him for cash, then buy him out? Seems like a very odd use of resources.

We did need a PG since Melo is out, but I'm sure we have someone else that is perfectly capable of being the 3rd PG. Grant Ritter, anyone?

We needed to find a center. Bismack isn't good and Cody is hurt, again. Borrego doesn't seem to rate Carey or Richards yet.

The other thing is we get nothing for saving GS a lot of money. We couldn't squeeze in a pick or the rights to one of GS's G-league players? Getting cash doesn't help us, it's more than likely just enough to pay Wanamaker's salary for the rest of the season.

I am glad the FO decided against making any major moves though. Getting Wanamaker is better than making some panic trade to try to squeeze into the 8th spot without Melo.

i think its fine to separate those issues

we needed a 3rd pg anyways (though its kinda odd we waited as long as we did when graham got injured imo)

still need a big, but meh. obviously we're not taking that serious and suffering is the preferred course of action.

the "we're still playoff team" is....i really think people need to look at these schedules. the bulls and pacers both are in way better spots than we are. we're not sitting on a substantial lead over other teams, we've lost one of our best players, our flaws haven't been addressed, other teams are getting healthy and are against easier schedules, etc.

either way. brad isn't a bad 3rd pg to have. i like the idea of having him around more than trusting caleb to facilitate anything.

Not even remotely. Which is why I stated the above.

Yeah, it would be odd to cut a guy you just traded for. Especially when you need help at the position you just traded for. Which is why they didn't trade for him just to cut him.

Am I wild for questioning the thought process here? Does Occam's Razor not exist?

Wanamaker was a teammate of Hayward and Rozier in Boston, so maybe they vouched for him. A big would have been nice, but I'm glad we didn't make a move that might damage our chemistry.

So confident in his ability to fill in that you spell his name wrong? Lol

The other thing is we get nothing for saving GS a lot of money.

The dude is on a $2.25mil expiring contract.

Roughly 1/3 that of our rookie PG.

Can we stop acting like we bailed them out?
