Yawn. It's a move I suppose. We avoid paying salary (likely overpaying) for a meh second-rounder that kinda worked out to roll the dice on more second rounders that may kinda work out. Zero opinion on this move but do know it moves the needle nowhere.

I'm going to be interested to see what Jalen gets on the market or what he even wanted because I'd definitely rather get something for him than give a mediocre player 10 million or more a year. We've been down that road.

getting our own 2nd round pick is not a bad thing.

Jalen is an UFA after the season, and presumably had a standing extension offer on the table that wasn't enough for him. If he didn't want to be here, this a pretty obvious move. Not glamorous, but Kupchak has done well with early 2nds.

BTW Jalen's max extension would've been $58M for 4 years. If he wanted anywhere near that, trading him was the right call. He's not a $14.5M guy

The 2nd they gave up was the Knicks next season, so the trade is basically McDaniels + mid 2nd for early 2nd + mystery 2027 2nd.

I'm less broken up about trading McDaniels than most. I just wish I thought there was a vision in place beyond the short term reactionary trades.

Honestly, one of my concerns with the trade is that it takes away some of the Hornets leverage when negotiating with PJ this summer. We have no plan B. Therefore, I think it's very likely we end up overpaying to keep PJ.

McDaniels is whatever, I wish we would of gotten more but that is more secondary for me.

Agree, I think he actually would have been good for the culture of this team and helped build a defensive identity going forward
