My early take favors Miller over Scoot. Both are quality talents. Both are considered the runaway competitors for picks 2 and 3, meaning they are tier 1A to Wemby’s tier 1AAA. Next group behind Miller and Scoot is tier 1B.

Miller has a much better shot and scoring capacity, is arguably a better defender due to size, and can play SG or SF. His natural NBA position is SG, which fits perfectly next to a creator like Melo. Miller is a good passer, high motor, very athletic, and has room to build some extra muscle. Love the potential for a young Hornets starting 5 with Melo, Miller, Miles, PJ and Mark.

Does Miller have any character or association issues a la the gun incident? Was he running with bad people or did he just use bad judgement? THAT is a serious question that needs to be answered.

Scoot has lots of potential and talent, but so far he hasn’t shown me the consistency of shooting or defense needed so desperately by this team to make that commitment at #2. Agree with some posts that, absent being convinced of Miller as THE GUY, might explore swap with Houston plus Eason to reach 4 and take BPA.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Hornets already passed on Eason for the 27th pick in the draft this year, I'm not sure why they would trade for him to move down now, even though I really love him

Where would you guys put Miller relative to Keegan Murray, Scottie Barnes, Franz Wagner, Jabari Smith, and Jeremy Sochan?

I feel like trying to label him as a small forward or shooting guard is outdated.

You have guards and offense initiators AKA lamelo, Scoot, Terry?, DSJ, Thompson twins
You have wings AKA Miller, gordon, miles, oubre, cody, bouk, Bryce
You have bigs Mark, pj, nick, kai, thor

The better question is who can he guard defensively? Can he be that point of attack a Defender that so desperately needs to be paired next to lamelo?

I don't think he's athletic enough to be a 2 and projects more as a perimeter oriented 3 who slides to 4 as his body fills out.

Him not being a high end athlete is my main concern about his future. I don't know if he has the twitch/bounce to get points in 1-on-1 situations whereas Scoot and Amen both do.

I don't get the 2 guard talk from him, just because as some mentioned he doesn't have twitchy athleticism.
However, don't think that means he isn't athletic.
Guys that are 6-9 running PnR, shooting stepback threes and running off pindown screens isn't just stuff the normal 6-9 player does.

I think he is an adequate defender who brings size and length. Not sure he is a lockdown guy ever but have a hard time seeing teams choosing to isolate him and hunt his 7-1 wingspan.

His game honestly reminds me a bit of Cam Johnson at the moment. That's not to say he won't ever develop his handle to potentially be a secondary facilitator, but his game lacks creativity and explosiveness. The shooting will definitely translate at the next level.

Brandon Miller vs Otto Porter Jr age 20 season (volume stats are per75 possessions)

Brandon Miller ~ SF/PF ~ 6'9" 200
Alabama (SEC) ~ Fr ~ 11/20/2002 (20.6)
23.8 pts ~ 10.4 reb ~ 2.6 ast ~ 1.1 stl ~ 1.1 blk ~ 2.8 tov ~ 3.0 pf
48.3% 2pt(8.2) ~ 38.4% 3pt(9.5) ~ 85.9% ft(5.9) ~ 58.3% ts
119.7 ORtg ~ 91.9 DRtg ~ +12.0 bpm (+7.8/+4.3) ~ 26.2% usg ~ 0.95 ast/tov

Otto Porter Jr ~ SF/PF ~ 6'8" 205
Georgetown (BEast) ~ So ~ 6/3/1993 (20.0)
22.3 pts ~ 10.1 reb ~ 3.7 ast ~ 2.5 stl ~ 1.2 blk ~ 2.0 tov ~ 2.7 pf
50.4% 2pt(10.9) ~ 42.2% 3pt(4.0) ~ 77.7% ft(6.9) ~ 59.0% ts
122.3 ORtg ~ 85.3 DRtg ~ +13.7 bpm (+8.2/+5.4) ~ 24.1% usg ~ 1.79 ast/tov

Ive been saying OPJ with higher shooting ceiling is a decent comp. I don't mean it as a negative, as I have him ranked 3rd.

Here is Scoots profile from this season for comparison sake.

Spoiler:
Scoot Henderson ~ PG ~ 6'2" 195
GLeague Ignite ~ 2/3/2004 (19.4)
20.6 pts ~ 5.9 reb ~ 7.7 ast ~ 1.4 stl ~ 0.5 blk ~ 3.9 tov ~ 3.7 pf
47.2% 2pt(14.1) ~ 32.4% 3pt(3.2) ~ 75.0% ft(3.4*) ~ 55.0% ts
114.4 ORtg ~ 115.8 DRtg ~ -1.8 bpm ~ 27.7% usg ~ 1.98 ast/tov
* ~ GLeague shoot 1 ft worth 2 pts until last 2 minutes

Also keep in mind that cross league impact metrics are harder to compare and Scoot being in the -1/-2 range for net rating and BPM is actually relatively good compared to other Ignite prospects. Jalen Green was in the -7/-8 range and Leonard Miller this season was around -5/-6 in net and BPM.

I see people saying Miller is lacking playmaking and defensive ability. But influential draft analyst Jonathan Givony wrote that even when Miller's scoring disappeared during the Tourney his playmaking and defensive effort stood out.

Still, it was encouraging to see Miller's aggressiveness, extraordinary pass timing and creativity off a live dribble with his off-hand, having the type of vision and playmaking ability every NBA team would love to have in a 6-9 guard.

Even when he wasn't scoring, Miller continued to bring impressive intensity on the defensive end, something that had been in question before this season.

Michael Porter if he could pass the ball is my comparison for him.

That's a really good player, so I won't throw a fit we draft him. I still think Scoot is the better, more dynamic player though.

For me the draft was #1 or I don't care, I really don't think there's a big difference between 2-9, which is why I'm more open to the Thompson twins after watching their measurements and interviews today

If Scoot was 2 inches taller he'd be the no brainer pick. Feels like we are circling around Bryce Young/CJ Stroud again

Not that it really matters, but is anyone surprised by his age? 21 by the fall seems a bit older for a would be sophomore

Just from the eye test Miller seems like BPA. A lot of that comes down to shooting though. The clip of Scoot clanking catch and shoot 3s traumatized me a bit.

Not really? Anyone we draft will be under cost control into their late twenties anyway. We aren't drafting a 26 year old.
