Looking at Denver future picks/protections
Looks like it’s their own 2025,2030 and 2031 2nds

When can we assume we are keeping Reggie?
It does seem surprising to me if they've already decided to jump Micic back a spot in the rotation, is Reggie definitely better at this stage in his career? Maybe I guess.

Reggie didn't want to be here last time and was sent away. I can't imagine he's still on the opening night roster

I didn't even know you could add protection to second round picks

Yeah our 2025 2nd is top 55 protected to the Pacers (via Warriors)

EDIT - ah, cash.
Has someone reported that it's cash coming back? Feels like if that was it, the deal would have been announced. Wondering if there is something bigger in the works. That report that Denver is interested in Micic and Nnaji was interesting.

Sorry - no - I just misinterpreted someone else's post here. Something has to happen with Reggie and assuming that hinges on Micic. With Westbrook now rumored to be a target of DEN, not sure where that puts their interest in Micic.

Micic is better than Reggie at this point in their careers. I don't think he is in any kind of Jeopardy of losing minutes to Reggie if somehow we were to keep him.

Hopefully we flip Reggie to a contender for some young reclamation project ex first round pick or a second and expiring filler.

Re: Denver Trades Reggie Jackson to Charlotte along with 3 unprotected 2nd rounders
ESPN gives the Hornets an A for this trade and suggest Jackson may yet be waived
The Hornets could take Jackson's salary into their cap space. Alternatively, they could become the first team to take advantage of a new provision in the collective bargaining agreement allowing teams to use their midlevel exceptions to add salary in trades. If Charlotte was to re-sign free agent Miles Bridges, the Hornets could stay over the cap and take in Jackson with the non-tax midlevel. Or the Hornets could use their cap space to sign a more expensive free agent, then deal for Jackson via the room exception.
Whatever the mechanics of this trade, Jackson probably isn't long for Charlotte. With LaMelo Ball back healthy along with Tre Mann and Vasilije Micic both as options at point guard, the Hornets may simply waive Jackson to clear a roster spot and collect the second-round picks as a strong fee for taking on just $5.25 million in salary.

With 2 open roster spots as is, and with limited funds on hand after taking Reggie into the full non-tax Mid Level Exception, I don't see how the team pays 3 more roster players.
Instead I think we will need to send outgoing salary in order to land a big who could play in rotation with any NBA team.
We should've even be discussing the G league 2-way guys any differently than Mensah. They are not a hedge against injury to Mark and neither is Nick.
I don't see what cutting Reggie accomplishes. At the very least he's matching salary at the trade deadline. And when well-built teams suffer unexpected injuries to the PG position, they're going to provide positive value for someone like Reggie Jackson, after the Nuggets just sold him to us at negative value because they got stuck in a financial pickle.
We don't have money problems so we took on 5 million. We need to own the purchase of the contract. Reggie is by all accounts a culture-setter player who has performed in some huge playoff games.

I still want him gone for a big or a wing or future drafts assets ASAP, but I agree cutting him would be silly with open roster spots. At worst he's a trade deadline flip and provides depth at 3rd PG behind Micic and Melo

I highly doubt we're actually keeping him. He's either trade bait or getting cut

It seems like an uphill battle to trade him at this point. We got 3 2nds just to take on his money, indicating a weak market. Add in, now that he's been traded once he can't be packaged with another piece in an outgoing deal. Maybe they figure they can get one more 2nd?

Re: Denver Trades Reggie Jackson to Charlotte along with 3 unprotected 2nd rounders
Following the re-signing of Seth Curry, the likelihood that Reggie Jackson will suit up in purple and teal now appears unlikely. According to Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer, Reggie Jackson who was traded to Charlotte Hornets on draft night in exchange for three 2nd round draft picks is "Expected" to be waived.
