Fully ready for Edgecome will go 3rd and become a star in the mold of Dwayne Wade, and us on the forum lamenting of being "just one pick away, again" so we might as well hype this guy up and hopefully he becomes something

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
I caught a few Rutgers games this season. It seems like he doesn't really know how to play basketball yet, but his high end flashes are as good as anyone in the class besides maybe Flagg. His best plays can be kind of insane on both ends of the floor.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
Ace having a pretty strong day at the combine, both shooting the ball and his physical measurements.
Through the first 20 or so participants, he had the fastest lane agility score and 2nd fastest 3/4 court sprint. However, the site is now down so don't know where he ranks now. Shooting he is grading out in the top 15 shooters in total shooting percentage across all the drills.

I would say Ace is the most versatile and biggest ceiling potentially left at 4.

No more fawning over empty gym workouts. No more saying “well he just has to learn how to play basketball!”
Even if VJ is gone, we could just go ahead and draft a player that has already proven they can shoot the ball and understand how to play the game like Tre Johnson or Kon Knueppel.
I’m so out on this player and can’t find one reason he should be under consideration for us. I’m open to the idea that there’s a franchise out there that can put a proper place in plan to develop him and he hits his his ceiling outcome. That place never has been and never will be Charlotte.

How does someone who doesn't know how to play basketball put up 18ppg/7rpg as a freshman not know how to play basketball lmao
Man imagine if he learns how to play basketball. This kid might be the best player in the draft if true.

What's an example of Charlotte taking an athlete like this? Kai Jones comes to mind. If it's a shot at Tiddy, I think they think he knows how to play and can continue to learn.

I looked through the list, I think most of those names pretty safely could play basketball when they were drafted. If it's just vaguely developing players, yea not a ton of success stories.
If Ace is one of these potential dynamic, swing for the fence players, maybe that isn't so bad and is a strategy the team seems to have rarely attempted.

I don't know if he knows how to play or not. But he is the boom or bust guy in this draft. His skillset isn't useful in a role player.

He made 18/25 threes in spot shooting today, showcased one of the better shooting performances today thus far.
Oh and people like his defensive potential both on and off the ball.
Both of those seem like key components to being a role player in the NBA to me.

I don't understand caring how he shoots in a single workout. I made 15 out of 25 3s in my workout today, doesn't mean I'm an NBA caliber shooter.

Yeah, you should write the combine, scouts and Adam Silver and tell them all it is a giant waste of time and nobody cares how any prospect shot today and to please remove it from the event moving forward.

You don't need to get snarky about this.
And especially as a Hornets fan. We've been burned by combine measurements and shooting drills more times than any of us can count. From Cody Zeller being LaMarcus Aldridge to MKG figuring out how to shoot every offseason to Bismack making a bunch of layups in a row.

I mean his overall game. Some players just play better as the main guy, and are worse if they have to play a specific role. This is why Miles plays his best when Melo or Miller are out, his game isn't that of a role-player. He needs the ball to be effective.
Ace, I think, is one of those types of players. He needs the ball in his hands to be effective.
As for shooting. He shot 35% from 3pt and 69% from the line. So in college, he's a below average shooter for a wing.

Or I can just not put weight on it.
I just don't understand why it's significant how someone shoots at a particular point in time, particular in a non-game setting. Is there a reason it should be viewed as particularly significant?
And to be clear, I'm not at all out on Ace, I just don't care how he shot in one workout.

Nothing about the way he played contributed to winning. Rutgers was a terrible basketball team that barely won any games and he’s a big reason why.
I’m not saying he doesn’t have enticing strengths and upside. I’m saying that historically we are a terrible match for each other. If I had a lick of faith in our player development I might could be talked into it.
Actually, maybe you’re right. 18/7 on a losing team. Maybe he’ll fit right in with our young “core” that has shown promise and can put up flashy stats but has not won a thing.

Basically same size as Andrew Wiggins, though Ace with an extra inch wingspan. Andrew Wiggins seems like a reasonable comp for Bailey’s floor.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
My super useless analysis: this dude's game is exactly what I imagine Will Smith's from Fresh Prince of Belair is like if he was an actual player.
If we end up drafting him, I request his thread be titled the Fresh Prince of Queen city.

Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?
