Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
I’d love to get Alex Condon with one of our 2nds but fear he will be gone by then. Would love to trade our 34th and a future #2 pick to get 31. Somebody really good is going to be there at the top of the second round and we need first dibs.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

That would not be great value. That kind of package should be moving you into the late first round where you get more contract control over a prospect.
I could see a team like Phoenix that needs to replenish their assets and depth swapping 29 for that package.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
Looking at some of the guys that have come out of Australian NBL league over the years, not sure I am really all that excited for any of those guys in this draft. Toohey and Rocco are probably guys I would rather some other team to take a chance on at this point.
List of guys drafted out of NBL recently
Alex Sarr
A.J. Johnson
Bobi Klintman
Ryan Rupert
Ousmane Dieng
Luke Travers
Hugo Besson
Josh Giddey
LaMelo Ball
RJ Hampton
Terrence Ferguson
Dante Exum
Majok Majok
There are a few more that went to college and never played in NBL, but NBL doesn't seem like a league that has led to a ton of success in NBA thus far.

Philon would be a nice pick up in the 2nd if hes available. Back to back picks ok him and condon would be extremely solid!

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
Think JMAC mentioned Kalkbrenner and Thiero. Both of those guys would be in our rotation day one. If Thiero develops a shot, he's diet coke OG, and Kalkbrenner would easily slot in for 10 mins per game as a shot blocking, occasional 3-point shooting 5.

If you want to follow the OKC roster trend as Fats mentioned before here are the types of players that OKC likes.
Ajay Mitchell 6-3.25 barefoot 197 lbs, 6-6.25 wingspan *200 lbs now

Compare this to Charlotte
Tre Mann 6-3.25 barefoot 178 lbs wit 6-4 wingspan
Damion Baugh 6-3.25 with 195 lbs with 6-8 wingspan *no combine official*
LaMelo Ball 6-5.5 barefoot 180 lbs with 6-10 wingspan *no combine official*
Nick Smith Jr. 6-2 barefoot 185 lbs with 6-8 wingspan *no combine official*
Seth Curry 6-1 barefoot185 lbs with 6-4 wingspan
KJ Simpson 6-0.25 barefoot 187 lbs with 6-4.5 wingspan
Josh Green 6-4.5 barefoot 214 lbs with 6-9.75 wingspan
Brandon Miller 6-8.5 barefoot 201 lbs with 6-11 wingspan *no combine official*
Tidjane Salaun 6-8.75 barefoot 217 lbs with 7-1.5 wingspan
Miles Bridges 6-5.25 barefoot 225 lbs with 6-9.5 wingpan
Josh Okogie 6-3 barefoot 213 lbs with 7 foot wingspan
DaQuan Jeffries 6-4 barefoot 215 lbs with 6-11.25 wingspan *230 lbs now
Grant Williams 6-5.75 barefoot 236 lbs with 6-9.75 wingspan
Wendell Moore Jr 6-4.25 barefoot 217 lbs with 7-0.5 wingspan
Isaiah Wong 6-2.5 barefoot 178 lbs with 6-6.75 wingspan
Jared Rhoden 6-4 barefoot 200 lbs with 6-11 wingspan
Moussa Diabate 6-9.25 barefoot 216 lbs with 7-2.5 wingspan
The guys in purple are guys Peterson has brought in.. you could argue 8/10 fit more the OKC model of closer to 200 lbs+ with plus wingspan and OKC-ish height. KJ is really the only outlier in this group. Wong was lighter but had a plus wingspan.
Miles, Grant, Miller and LaMelo seem like pretty good fits. Melo measurements are pretty close to young SGA measurements*
Whereas Nick Smith, Tre Mann, Curry are all on shorter, lighter side with not as great length.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
the enormous difference here is that out of the 10 purple dudes, all 10 of them are absolutely terrible offensive players (and only a few of them defended ok too).
Peterson may have a physical archetype he likes but he sure isn't looking at any real basketball ability. I'm expecting my call any day now with my own +7 wingspan

Sion James and Cedric Coward are two most well rounded OKC players.
Lanier and Tonje shooting was great, but they failed to meet even 1.0 Stocks- which is lower than any OKC player.
but again all 13 of these guys were measurements darlings and you can make the case they all fit OKC model.
Also note: most International guys not included here because they don't have official combine measurements such as Penda, Essengue, Saraf and Hugo

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
Good stuff
I think the Hornets are pretty well positioned to go one of two ways with their roster building to emulate these two small market teams that we're seeing have a ton of success both right now and set up for prolonged success.
We have our franchise player in melo - Definitely not on sgas level and arguably on the same level as Halliburton just never healthy. But that's for another day.
both OKC and Indiana have built very deep teams, which in this day and age with the never ending amount of injuries players are suffering, is almost a must have going forward. both teams play at a very high fast pace to take advantage of their youth and elite point guards - Something that this team has not done the past three years which is either due to bad coaching or injuries. Jury is still out on that one.
Beyond those similarities OKC and Indiana have taken slightly different paths to building their roster. the Thunder have compiled a roster full of incredibly athletic, very switchable quick, aggressive defensive guards and wings anchored by two thin yet very mobile centers. The Pacers on the other hand have created a roster that thrives on motion, ball movement and high percentage shot making.
I think the Hornets are in the early stages of rebuilding this roster and should emulate one or both of these teams. I would much rather we copy these two directions rather than trying to cram the Boston Blueprint of spamming three pointers. But I suspect the way Peterson and Lee talk about Hornets dna and Lee seems to be more of a defensive first coach that we would probably lean towards emulating the Thunder rather than the Pacers.
obviously it would be great to have the best of both worlds but it's hard enough to find players that are good at one of these styles of play let alone two. If it were up to me I would rather see us model the Pacers since I love watching motion offense and ball movement and high IQ passing. But I'll gladly take the Uber aggressive thunder style defense and fast pace over what we've watched the past three years.
No matter what we do I just want us to stay with one direction long enough to see some results rather than the snip snap snip snap bipolar approach that we've had for the past 15 years. I want the Hornets to pick the players that fit what they're trying to build and fit the style the coach wants to implement. Even if that means potentially passing over someone regarded as BPA or reaching for some one slightly higher than they are projected. Just make sure you don't miss on the 4th pick... But for these two early 2nd round picks most definitely don't just go for the highest player on your board. The guys that fit the roster you want to build and the culture you're trying to achieve. . To stick to your guns

We need some grit and grind. Strong and mean. At least one of these picks needs to be tough guy who plays stout D.

Lanier 6-4, 6-10 wingspan, 206 lbs, 39 inch vertical, great athletic testing across the board and shot over 40% from three on 8 attempts per game over last 2 years.
