He is indeed…but an underpowered less athletic dog than those on the floor he’ll be playing against. I really like Knipple, but not at 4 and not for a trade back.

I’m just not too worried about projection with Kon. Sure according to his “testing” numbers he will struggle defensively and to get his own shot but those things just did not really show up on film at Duke. He was in the best defense in college basketball and never once looked out of place. I truly believe with Kon his basketball IQ will at least allow him to perform at a passable level defensively. And his high character and desire to win would be a welcome addition into our locker room full of players who are yet to show winning means anything to them.

I can just so much easier talk myself into Kon’s fit with our current roster than Bailey. Now don’t get me wrong, I’d highly highly prefer Edgecombe to Kon but I’m currently operating under the assumption he goes to Philly at 3.

I figure all I’m trying to say is that if VJ is gone it’s not hard to argue Kon makes more sense for us than basically anybody else.

What would he look like on a team that isn't as stacked relative to the opposition and isn't the best defensive team in the nation?

We really have no idea which is scary for a guy that did almost no self creation in college.
He made 3 off the dribble threes in college.
Made 20 two point shots that weren't at the rim the whole season.

It is wild to me watching the tape that teams continued to chase him over screens on the Malauch lob play when Kon literally never shot threes off the dribble, those are things that NBA teams figure out after 5 games that college teams just don't scout for.

Heres a thought exercise that might help explain my thinking with him a bit. Try to imagine what the perception of these two players would be if Kon Knueppel and Liam McNeeley switched teams last season.

Imagine McNeeley feasting off ball with Flagg vs Kon trying to be a pseudo PG and self create on UConn.

I seriously think there could be a large disconnect between how the draft media views Kon vs how NBA teams feel about him. Not to say that I don't think teams like Kon, because I'm positive they do (everyone should like his game tbh), but I am not convinced at all that NBA teams view him as a top 5 pick type of prospect (in this class).

I would agree and I think the way the board fell, with the near-playoff teams winning top 3 and worst teams falling 4-9 really hurt him. Charlotte, Utah, Washington, NOP and Toronto should all be taking bigger swings than a player of Kons makeup. I think his most likely landing spot will be 10-14 to Houston, Portland, or Spurs.

Philly’s GM is said to be huge on analytics, so perhaps Knipple’s advanced stats will swing him there as a pleasant surprise for the Hornets!

I like Kon. He will be a good player, a GLUE GUY, a Swiss Army knife who facilitates, hits the open shot, smart, makes everyone better. Defense? Average at best. Teams will find ways to exploit his lack of league quicks/foot speed, but he can be hidden better on very good defensive teams.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Kon is the only player out of Bailey, VJ, Tre, Kon that I'd be upset taking.

my concern with Knips is the defense, does his athleticism and size allow him to be a decent defender or will the athletic nba guards torch him time and time again.

i love a lot of what Kon brings, if he was bigger where he could defend the post a little or be put on a slower wing, i'd be more keen.

If we were picking 7th, I would happily take Kon. At 4, we can probably get a higher upside dude. But, I think he may end up actually being a top 5 guy in this class. Smart, good shooter, good attitude and just a baller.

Looking into the other guys in our range more, he seems like a mix between ceiling and floor.

Highest upside: Ace
Lowest Floor: Tre (because he can't defend)
Middle: VJ and Kon. VJ because he should be a good defender at least. Kon because he should be a good shooter at least.

And interestingly enough, their weaknesses are the opposite. VJ isn't a great shooter, Kon may not be a great NBA defender.

If we really did like Reed as much as were supposedly did, and we did try to trade for Knecht, maybe Kon will be higher on our board than we think. He's pretty much Reed but with Knecht's size and with our 3pt shooting offense, Lee may prefer that to a defensive/slasher.

If the front office sees him ad the best player available, then cool I can respect it. But please don't take him at four, might as well trade down an collect a few extra assets.

You guys are starting to sway me on Kneuppel, but he still scares the crap out of me.
