BD - I played ultimate in college and have recently started checking out Charlotte's disc golf courses. Any tips for a disc golf noob?

Charlotte is one of a handful best areas in the world for disc golf. They just hosted World's in 2012 and they have the US Disc Golf Championships every year in Rock Hill, SC. You're blessed. If NBA FAs were into disc golf, the Hornets would be considered a top tier destination, that's how good the scene is.

I could give you a gazillion tips and feel free to ask away. So I don't write a book, best thing you can do is start playing in local leagues or befriend players way better than you and observe. You'll pick it up a lot faster watching people do it right. Never be afraid to ask for tips.

The second thing I'll tell you is to keep it simple as you start out, get a good grasp of the mechanics before you go disc crazy. Since you have an Ultimate background, go for slow, neutral discs. These discs respond well to good form, poorly to bad form. The Discraft Comet is the de facto "learn to throw well" mid-range and it's really floaty so a lot of Ultimate guys tend to love them. The fast, wide-rimmed drivers like Nukes and Bosses can enforce bad throwing habits to get them to go straight, you have to work your way up to them.

Hornet's Nest is a great course period, it has some open holes that aren't too mean to noobs, Eastway also has some really open holes, Nevin and Elon Long will beat you up and spit you out, Renaissance is pretty open but it's notoriously brutal. RL Smith is a tough one for beginners. Winget is a nice, easier course. Reedy Creek and Idlewild are good, fun courses also. Bradford is really good, can be tough on a few holes.

A lot of Charlotte's courses (like much of NC) are really wooded so it's really nice to find an open field and practice throwing from time to time to see how well you're doing without a tree smacking it away.

If you want aim challenge the Reedy Creek is a great course.

If you want distance work Hornets Nest is a good course.

I grew up playing Reedy Creek and it was a lot of fun. There is a new course going up in Concord at Frank Liske Park. It will have some fun holes. The grand opening is May 31st and they hope to hold a tournament there next summer. I know about that one because I got to give my opinion on the first few layouts they planned.

I have been stuck in the second season of Twin Peaks for months. I will eventually watch it all (there are like six episodes left for me) but my take away so far is that the show had fantastic potential yet didn't fulfil it. For **** sakes, some of the story-lines (Nadine's strength, Deputy Andy and Lucy, etc.) couldn't be more annoying. I think that if Lynch could go back and do it all over again, he'd make a better TV series.

On the other hand, you take away some of the 90s corniness (and some of it seems to be intentional with Lynch adding some soap opera to the show) and Twin Peaks is the blueprint for today's drama series. I mean, Lost is one of my three all time favorite shows and it is a complete copy of Twin Peaks. From the supernatural antagonist to the idiosyncratic little place where weird things happen, there are so many parallels between the two shows.

I had the same exact troubles with season 2. The entire middle section of the season 2 is so painful to get through. The two storylines you mentioned were the two that really bothered me the most as well. I''m not entirely sure if its true, but I've heard that David Lynch cut ties with the series after the revealing of Laura Palmers killer because NBC forced him to solve the murder, even though he never intended to, and then later returned for the final three episodes because ratings tanked after he left. Even if that isn't true (I know for certain Laura's murder was never intended to be solved in the series), the good news is that the final three episodes are amazing and totally worth struggling through the rest of the season. The final episode is probably my favorite episode of a TV show ever. I love talking about Twin Peaks and I'm glad someone else on here has seen it. It is probably my favorite thing ever filmed. After you finish the series you should watch the movie, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. It is really intense and graphic compared to the series though. so be warned. It is like two hours of mostly the really surreal and intense aspects of the series. Are you a fan of any of David Lynch's other work?

Oh and the "Benjamin Horne goes nuts and reenacts the Civil War" storyline also deserves a honorable mention.

Everything you said is true. I've obviously avoided reading too much about the series to avoid spoilers but I've picked up the exact same information while reading episode recaps after watching them.

I will most definitely do so. I really liked Mulholland Dr., though I have to admit that I wouldn't have completely grasped the film unless I hadn't read about the correct sequence of events later on at imdb.

Great to hear. Maybe you can even help me. Back in the days I used to own DJ premier mixtapes named crooklyn cuts a, b and c. The mixtapes were converted from audio tapes so the quality sucks, but it was one of the best mixtapes ever. If you do own them maybe we can find a way to share them?

Edit: Just asked youtube and it found it :)

I don't think I have them all but, yeah, they are gold. As a fan of obscure 90s hip hop (is there anything more satisfying than knowing some random yet dope 90s NYC artist who only has two 12'' to his name and then completely vanished!?) I really like Premo's "New York Reality Check 101" tape.

Yes, they should be easily found on the internet. If you have problems, try www.djpremierblog.com. It has been a while since the creator of the page posted them, but he used to upload all kinds of Premo's radio shows from the 90s, including these tapes. They still can be found in the archives of the page.

Thanks,

Yeah, I've been over here for two years. It is amazing how much these guys worship basketball. My male students know who Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker are. Off topic our new name directly translates into Chinese as Yellow Bees.

Are you Chinese or just over there to teach English? I had some friends who went over that way to teach english because those countries like using people with American accents to teach their youth. They loved the experience but were only there for a year or a little more each time.

Wow. Just wow. Perfect timing for me to finish the series now then, I guess.

Is it some sort of special compiled from the stuff they filmed for the cancelled 3rd season?

I obviously still have to watch the prequel film, yet I spent yesterday in a Twin Peaks rabbit hole. I did it all. Read everything I could find, watched the cast members on old Letterman shows and even found out that there's a podcast on iTunes dedicated to Twin Peaks (I obviously won't listen to it all now as every episode has a podcast for it, but will definitely give a listen to the podcasts about the two last episodes).

Edit: Never mind the question, I just read the video's description. I'm a bit disappointed now though. Somehow I figured that they could have filmed some stuff for the next season and these are pieces of it as I discovered yesterday that Lynch had certain ideas about the next season and the story arch (obviously) continues on.
