Memphis is nearing a deal with Mo Williams, they ship him to the Cavs in exchange for Haywood at Haywood's lower contract amount, Memphis then trades the Haywood contract when it balloons and Jeff Green (maybe even carter) to Brooklyn for Johnson, Brooklyn then can clear some of that tax amount off the books.

A) They can't trade Mo until December if they sign him.
B) Cavs can't take back players in S&T given their tax status.

Agree 1000%
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Good riddance if its 4 years. Even 3 is a stretch.

4 years?
We must have known we had no chance to meet that market.
So knowing his bird rights gave us no ability to solve backup PG, why in the world are we offering the MLE to Belinelli instead of a backup PG in place of Mo?

Just go with it. There is no method to the madness.

Defies logic. The whole reason we acquired Mo in the first place was to cover the Roberts mistake. There must be a plan to cover it again. Oh, let me guess, trade for Mo at the deadline.

Haha, I would laugh my ass off if we traded for him again at the deadline.

There better be a trade on the table or else we should have seen the MLE offered to a backup PG like Jeremy Lin.

I would be very surprised if Lin takes MLE from somewhere, he will get at least 7 million per year probably. Im not sure why we went after Marco instead of a PG, but he is a lot better than our current backup SG's (Lamb,PJ and Troy). with our added playmakers/good passers at other positions backup PG might not be as important we think.

I can't fathom replacing Roberts midseason then exposing the 2nd unit to him again. It seems the front office is undoing Cho's mistakes not repeating them.JDR720 wrote:MasterIchiro wrote:LofJ wrote:

@WojYahooNBA: Charlotte has shown a strong willingness to use its free agent guard Mo Williams in a sign-and-trade, league sources tell Yahoo.

It could allow another team to use their MLE on someone and still land Mo. If we did a trade with Memphis they could still use the MLE on someone.

Ah good point.
Seems like we're outright telling Mo he's not coming back. I wonder if we're already planning on keeping Craft as PG3. Apparently he is deferring his med school plans to join our SL team.

Teams with taxpayer MLE ($3.3M) can't receive players in S&T. So our options are limited to non-taxpaying teams.
For teams: Instead of using their $5.4m MLE on Mo, they can S&T him for up to $4.75m and still keep their MLE for use elsewhere.
For Mo: He got less than $4m last year, so it's doubtful teams will give him a large chunk of their MLE a year later. He probably knows utilizing his non-Bird rights are his best option at maximizing his earnings.
