Jordan didn't want to go into the luxury tax. He said, okay. I know the backup PG position is a problem but even crappy guys like Shaun Livingston are getting paid, Jeff Teague ain't signing to be a backup, etc
Let's take a guy like MCW who is young and might POSSIBLY turn things around here. Who can defend while Batum/Frank take over playmaking duties and monk iso scores. And sign him for 1 year.
Near the deadline we will have an idea of whether we are a playoff team or not (i.e. kemba isn't out for the season or cody/Dwight haven't both succumbed to injuries)
Then we have mcw expiring deal to trade along with lambs palatable deal or bacon, 2nd rd pick etc to solidify the position without paying the tax

i think you might be over thinking it a little.
It was more than likely a whole lot simpler. MJ said, I don't want to pay the tax, see what you can do with the room you have.
Cho thought MCW might work and gave it a shot. That's probably about it.

I think you're underthinking it. This isn't the first year these guys have been in charge.

Re: Hornets sign MCW
Cliff is already depressed he won't be able to bench Monk for missed defensive assignments early in the season, then watch some lightning-bug PG destroy MCW on D anyway while we all self-immolate.
On a serious note I'm very skeptical of MCW's chances now. If he has balky knees his career will be shot and he'll never be better than a liability. His quickness was already holding him back, any drop off from his current form would be catastrophic. I'm perfectly happy with feeding Monk 20-25mpg by combining backup PG duties with some SG thrown in as well, but if the coaching staff thinks he's not ready we'd better prepare as if MCW may never be the same.

I'm worried about our depth at PG since it'd be a miracle if MCW can play in all games this season. Having Stone and Marcus Paige ain't bad, but it's not the ideal scenario either.

fatlever wrote:not just one knee, but both kneesCharlotte Hornets backup point guard Michael Carter-Williams had a procedure on both knees in mid-July that could potentially cost him the preseason in recovery time.
Coach Steve Clifford revealed Carter-Williams’ condition at a luncheon Friday with Charlotte media members who regularly cover the team. Clifford said Carter-Williams isn’t cleared to work out with teammates on court, and it’s not a given Carter-Williams will recover in time to be available for the Hornets’ season opener Oct. 18 at the Detroit Pistons.
Carter-Williams, who has previously missed games with left knee pain, had Platelet-Rich Plasma treatments on the patella tendons in both knees. Doctors extract blood from a patient, extract platelets from the whole blood, and inject the PRP back in a damaged area.

If the operation was in mid-July, but the Hornets signed him in early July, I wonder if the team knew about this being planned before signing him and factored it in? Or did he wait to spring the need for the procedure (and ensuing recovery time) after securing the contract first?
But better now than during the season, at least. Hopefully, he won't miss too much time, even though I'm not high on him.

Probably this. I don't think we wanted to sign a backup PG that needed work done on both knees.
investigate Adam Silver

Yea I can't imagine us giving all that money to a guy who is barely worth a roster spot and now might miss a sizable chunk of the season.
Even more reason to have kept Frank Jackson. This is a problem.

Taking the Tony Parker route.
I mean, we have a team, may as well test out the knees in a less intense environment.
I'm just glad to see that he's making progress.

He's back with the team already. Apparently he was just sent down to test his knees and they passed. Cho indicated that he'll likely play during the upcoming road trip. I'm excited to see what Monk will do when he doesn't have to handle the ball as much.

Was he dressed out yesterday? Thought I saw him in street clothes, but he definitely wasn't on the injured report. How has nothing come out about what is going on there?

I was big on MCW since we signed him so I'm probably a bit biased. Our folks satisfied with him as our backup PG this season?

Satisfied? No. He’s shooting 22% from the field and we got negative nets with him on the floor.
However I do like that he get the ball to Lamb with the 2nd unit. I’m used to MCW forcing the issue and trying to score to relive his ROY days when the Sixers gave him the green light. His defense also has been solid. He’s been getting a lot of deflections.
