2013 Was also just a different universe in terms of evaluating wings that were not at least showing some level of three point shooting. I mean, there's no planet where he goes in the top 10 in a draft this year.
But I still maintain the things that ruined his career more than the shooting
- The Hornet's absolutely abysmal developmental staff
- His never ending string of injuries
- And his lack of self-confidence

Re: The VJ Edgecombe thread
MKG completely lost his edge after he reinjured the shoulder. Part of what made him so good on defense was his crazy motor and willingness to do whatever it took to make a play, but he was too injury prone to play this way long term. After the back to back shoulder surgery he didn't play with the same ferocity (was almost timid) and looked like he lost all his confidence.
It was pretty sad to watch it all go down. In the brief stretch after he returned from the first shoulder surgery (criminal how quickly they let him return to play) he was flying all over the court and looked the best he ever did in his career.

Re: The VJ Edgecombe thread
I'm just getting into the draft now that the season is over - how does VJ compare to Amen Thompson as a prosepct? He's smaller, which of course matters a lot, and It seems he doesnt finish as well at the rim, but he also seems to have a better shot (although not great). Are they similar outside of that. I'm usually in the boat of, there are certain prototypes you take in the top 5 of a draft and certain prototypes you don't. What complicates matters is, A; the players with ideal prototypes have pretty big warts otherwise and B; it seems like the Amen Thompson style player may be more valuable than now than I'm realizing.

amen - taller/longer, even more athletic, better handles, better finisher, better passer
vj - much better shooter

I see. "Tremendous athlete" gets thrown around so much it's sometimes hard to determine what people mean when they say it. I thought VJ matched him there. Better handles may be the biggest difference.

I mean by all accounts vj Is an exceptional athleticism especially when it comes to leaping. I think the Thompson Twins were just in the 99th percentile in that regard. And I think both the Twins have maybe a little better lateral athleticism.
The biggest difference is simply that the Twins are longer therefore they're more disruptive defensively. And Amen is probably a better ball handler and passer while VJ is a better shooter than both of them. I think Vj's high end defensive outcome would be more similar to like a Caruso or cason Wallace than say the twins. both would be sorely appreciated. vj It might be better in say passing lanes and chase down blocks and being just a pure lockdown point of attack at defender.
