Do you have to dribble in wheelchair basketball leagues? And do you have to use a different kind of wheelchair (like an "athletic" one) or your everyday wheelchair?

All I know is that they used to have different angle of the wheels - I guess because stability cause getting into position and not being pushed out of it is a big part of the game and thus heavy centers score most of the points. Not sure if that's correct that's what I heard.

I've watched a few wheelchair bball games. I remember when the Aussies won the gold one year at the paralympics, it was mainly because our best player got hot and was bombing 3's. He was just on fire.

They don't have to dribble the ball, but when they receive it they must either pass, shoot or bounce the ball before touching their wheels again. The bounce the ball, they can touch their wheels to move, change direction etc

Really interesting article on the lunacy of the Knicks owner.

A few years removed from high school, I was doing my morning newspaper run only to find out that my HS is 25-1 right now.

Not bad. Who do you think their best player is? Any of them NBA ready? I always like hometown NBA stories.

The 6'7" Josh Smith is getting interest from big time schools so he may be the most likely down the road. But I doubt any are NBA ready.

Instead of dribbling, passing or shooting every two steps, it's two pushes or two changes of direction. You don't have to dribble constantly (ie, there's no double dribble), but aside from that, the rules are mostly the same. The chairs are different from the everyday chairs you see wheelchair users in. A 5th, sometimes 6th caster is added to the back to keep the chairs from flipping backwards and wheels are cambered to various degrees to allow the chairs to turn more easily and move faster in general.

Like every level of basketball, the easiest way to dominate the game is to have a really tall player that can get the ball into the hoop. Tall but fat guys rarely cut it, because they normally have poor chair skills, which is super important because one of the unique aspects of wheelchair hoops is the "backpick". If you get and maintain wheel position (think of how charges work), you can lockdown a player and take them out of the play entirely, so it's a common tactic on both sides of the ball since it can neutralize a tall, but less mobile player when you're on defense or on offense you can backpick a player, hold them out for a few seconds, release the backpick and your team has a 5 on 4 advantage.

Anyway, the best players aren't normally the tallest, it's the guys with the best combination of size and skill. You don't have to be an everyday wheelchair user to play hoops, so these are normally amputees (who dominate most paralympic events). Wheelchair basketball is one of the few adapted sports that tries to neutralize the playing field, so to speak, with a point system. Players are classified based on their muscle control relative to balance, basically. High level paraplegics and quads count as one point, lower level paras/disabilities like spinabifida count as two points, amputees and athletes with mobility issues but good stability count as 3 points. A 5 player lineup cannot exceed 11 points and must include a class 1 player.

Chabber invited me to the Kings game Friday night. Any RGM regs gonna be in attendance?

I got to meet Stephen Silas today. Really nice guy. Didn't want to waste his time asking him about a trade he wouldn't answer anyway. He said they are gonna push really hard this last 26 games to get in the playoffs. I told him keep up the good work and tell MJ "Hi".

Does anyone know what is the music used in recap video of our game vs Toronto on nba.com? It fits so nicely, best recap of a game on nba.com I remember and the music itself is nice laidback piece (I would like to get it).
